Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture; Finnish: Aalto-yliopiston taiteiden ja suunnittelun korkeakoulu; Swedish: Aalto-universitetets högskola för konst, design och arkitektur), was formed of two separate schools: the faculty of architecture (previously part of the Helsinki University of Technology) and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, known in Finnish as TaiK). TaiK, founded in 1871, was the largest art university in the Nordic countries. The university awards the following academic degrees: Bachelor of Science in Technology, Architect, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Arts. The university is known for its research projects and industrial collaborations. During the rectorship of Yrjö Sotamaa the university was active in integrating design into Finnish innovation and business networks. This eventually led to the decision to merge TaiK together with Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) and the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) into a new charter university, Aalto University, which started in January 2010. In the global QS World University Rankings in 2021, the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture was placed 6th in the art and design subject area. In the field of architecture & built environment Aalto was ranked 42nd.Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is a founding member of the Cumulus Association, a global association of higher education institutions in the fields of art, design and media.

The International Design Business Management program (IDBM) is a joint teaching and research programme in Aalto University, Finland. The purpose of the program is to bring together experts in different fields within the concept of design business management. The objective of the IDBM program is to train skilled professionals for key roles in international design business. The program emphasizes the importance of design as a competitive factor among others, such as technology. Arising from the needs of the industry, this program gives future marketers, engineering experts and designers an opportunity to practice important interpersonal skills through projects and courses. The program teaches students to make full use of their own potential as members of interdisciplinary teams.

Arabianranta (Finnish: [ˈɑrɑbiɑnˌrɑntɑ]; Swedish: Arabiastranden; literally meaning the "shore of Arabia"), sometimes simply Arabia, is a residential part of Helsinki, Finland. It is bound by Vanhankaupunginlahti bay from east, and connects to neighboring boroughs of Vanhakaupunki in north, Hermanni in south and Toukola and Kumpula in west. It is part of the greater Toukola region.The City of Helsinki requires all developers in the Arabianranta area to use 1-2% of the building investments of individual sites for works of art. This rule has been followed since the launching of development in the area 2000. Therefore, works of arts are visible around the district. Artists, designers and craftsmen put their stamp on buildings, objects and a communal spirit that gives energy.The district is mainly divided into three hubs. The Hämeentie Factory District is the heart of the Arabia region where you can find an unbroken tradition of design. At the southern end of Arabia, there is the Toukolanranta (swe. Majstranden), which translates into English as May Beach. The present showcases of functional buildings were constructed in an area that was originally wasteland. Artist Johanna Hyrkäs has designed an art trail which combines the buildings and the art gardens. The district is easily accessible by bus and trams, it takes around 15 minutes to get to the city centre.

Toukola (Swedish: Majstad) is a neighbourhood of Helsinki, Finland, around 4 km north of the town centre, at the port of Vanhankaupunginlahti. Toukola is part of the administrative region of Vanhakaupunki. The eldest part of the town consists mostly of wooden villas and small houses. Next to the sea, in later years, the newer area of Arabianranta was built, with modern tower blocks.

Hermanni ([ˈhermɑnːi]; Swedish: Hermanstad, Finland Swedish: [ˈhermɑnˌstɑːd]) is a neighbourhood in Central major district of Helsinki, Finland. As of 2012, Hermanni has 5,124 inhabitants living in an area of 1.05 km2. Hermanni is part of Vallila district. Hermanni's well-known areas include Teurastamo, known as a popular food and city culture hub, which once housed the city's historic slaughterhouse from 1933 to 1992.

The Museum of Technology, Helsinki, (Finnish: Tekniikan museo) is located in Helsinki, Finland. It is the only general museum of technology in the country.The Museum of Technology is operated by the private Museum of Technology Foundation which was established in 1969. The foundation was established by industrial and engineering organizations, museum professionals and the municipalities of the Helsinki metropolitan area.

The Vantaa (Finnish: Vantaanjoki, Swedish: Vanda å) is a 101-kilometre (63 mi) long river in Southern Finland. The river starts from the lake Erkylänjärvi in Hausjärvi and flows into the Gulf of Finland at Vanhankaupunginselkä in Helsinki. One of the tributaries of the Vantaa river is Keravanjoki that flows through the town of Kerava north of Helsinki.

Vanhakaupunki (Swedish: Gammelstaden) is a neighbourhood of the city of Helsinki, Finland, to the north of Toukola. It is also the name of a district of the city, which contains the neighbourhood and its surroundings. The name (meaning "old town") comes from the fact that Helsinki was originally founded in the Vanhakaupunki area. The Swedish name Gamla Helsingfors appears in the new Helsinki foundation document from 1639, as the city was moved to its later location, and the forms Gamla staden or Gammelstaden came into use after this. The Finnish translation of the name only started appearing in the late 19th century. The current names were established as official in 1909. The neighbourhood was named Vanhakaupunki in 1959.

Arabia is a shopping centre located in the Arabianranta district of Helsinki, Finland. From 2015 to 2019 it was owned by Citycon. In June 2019 Citycon sold the shopping centre to the Nordic building investor company NREP. The shopping centre was opened in 2002 in industrial buildings left empty by Kotisaari and Ingman.The shopping centre has about 30 businesses, including K-Supermarket, S-market, Tokmanni, Alko, JYSK, Faunatar and a couple of restaurants. The first bakery café of the Cinnabon chain in Finland was located in the shopping centre until it closed down in spring 2016. Nowadays the site of the bakery café hosts a Kotipizza restaurant, opened in December 2016. The supermarket chain Lidl opened a store at the shopping centre on 11 January 2018. Pilatesstudio Arabia moved to the shopping centre in January 2019. The Helsinki tram lines 6, 6T and 8 stop near the shopping centre, as do buses towards the city centre, northeastern Helsinki and Vantaa.

Sosiaalikeskus Satama (Harbor Social Center) was a social center in Helsinki, Finland, opened in April 2009 and evicted August 2011.

Kumpula (Swedish: Gumtäkt) is a verdant neighbourhood in Helsinki, bordered by Eastern Pasila to the west, Vallila to the south, Käpylä and Koskela to the north and Toukola and Arabianranta to the east. As of January 1, 2003, Kumpula had approximately 3,600 inhabitants. The name Gumteckt or Gumtäckt appears already in documents from the 15th century. The current Finnish name Kumpula was given in 1928. Kumpula was incorporated into the city of Helsinki in 1906. The oldest part of Kumpula, around the long street Limingantie, consists of wooden houses built in the 1920s and 1930s. Around the university campus and in the western part of Kumpula are newer apartment buildings built in and after the 1980s. HOAS has built student housing in the area. The area is also home to one of the four campuses of the University of Helsinki, the Kumpula Campus, where approximately 6,000 students study at the Faculty of Science. In addition, the Dynamicum building, shared by the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Finnish Environment Institute, is located on the campus. The Kumpula Manor is an old manor house now housing the University's geological museum, and surrounded by a botanical garden. Nearby is one of Helsinki's numerous gardening allotments, the Kumpula Allotment Garden. Kumpula is also home to the Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool, which was built for the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Arcada University of Applied Sciences (Swedish: Yrkeshögskolan Arcada) is a Swedish-speaking university of applied sciences (a polytechnic) in Helsinki, Finland. It is owned and maintained by the Arcada Foundation.
