Grace United Methodist Church (Des Moines, Iowa)

The Minnie Y. and Frank P. Mattes House is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Its significance is attributed to its association with the prominent Des Moines architectural firm of Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson, and it calls attention to their residential work. The historic designation includes the large scale Tudor Revival house, automobile garage, and the retaining wall and entrance steps that were all constructed in 1910 for the Mattes. Both Frank and Minnie were from prominent Des Moines German-American families. He was a brewer until prohibition in the city, and he was then involved with real estate. The property was sold to Guy M. and Madeline Lambert in 1944, who sold it to the Drake University sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1959. Other houses in the neighborhood were converted in a similar manner. This is an early example of the Tudor Revival style in Des Moines, which would become the dominant architectural style in the city by the 1920s and 1930s. While the original single-family residence was completed in 1910, two additions were built onto it by the sorority in 1961 and in 1993. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Middlesex Plat Historic District is located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was an upper-middle-class neighborhood of two-story square houses and bungalows that were built from 1910 to 1923. The district has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2000. It is part of The Bungalow and Square House--Des Moines Residential Growth and Development MPS.

The Norman Apartment Building is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. This three-story brick structure was the first of five apartment buildings, housing 60 families, that Drake University planned to build near its campus. They would be controlled by the university's board of trustees. The Norman and the more modest McCoy Apartments were the only two buildings constructed. The building features two shades of tan brick, a considerable amount of Gothic Revival limestone trim, a Tudor arched entry, medieval lettering on a name plaque between the second and third floors, and ogee arches on some windows. The building's significance is related to the "University's growth and development and the effect its financial policies had on nearby settlement." It is also significant for its association with the prominent Des Moines architectural firm of Proudfoot & Bird who designed it. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Samuel A. and Margaret Stevenson House is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. This is the best preserved example of the residential architecture that combines the Stick and Eastlake styles in the city. In the suburban areas of the city in the late 19th century this was one of the most common residential styles. Most of them have been either demolished, significantly altered, or lost most of their character by being covered over with siding. The Stevensons bought the property in 1889 from the Vermont Syndicate, who developed Kingman Place. They mortgaged the property for $2,687.50 to the syndicate immediately after they bought it, probably for them to build their house for them from a pattern book or stock plan design. The two-story wood-frame structure features exterior walls of painted clapboards, vertical and horizontal trim boards, and capped with a crossgabled roof. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Washington and Elizabeth Miller Tract-Center-Soll Community Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 471 resources, which included 297 contributing buildings and 174 non-contributing buildings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.The historic district is a late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century middle-class residential neighborhood. It was developed by the Miller family who had previously farmed the land and operated a nursery there. The neighborhood was built along the Ingersoll streetcar route. Once developed the residents formed the Center-Soll Community Association, which "sought to increase neighborly relations, market the neighborhood, protect property values, and keep out commercial intrusions north of Ingersoll Avenue." Better Homes & Gardens featured the association in 1924, and it was considered a replicable model for other communities. The houses in the district were built from the 1890s to the 1920s and there were constructed in the popular styles of the era. Local contractor A.J. Coon was responsible for many of the houses. Most of the non-contributing resources are garages, but a few of the houses were built outside of the period of significance or were extensively remodeled. Local architectural firms Wetherell and Harrison and Liebbe, Nourse and Rasmussen were responsible for the apartment and commercial buildings in the district.

The Greenwood Park Plats Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. At the time of its nomination the district consisted of 393 resources, including 277 contributing buildings, one contributing site, 109 non-contributing buildings, and six non-contributing structures. Most of this district was originally known as Brown's Park, a private park that was the location of the Iowa State Fair from 1879 to 1885. Founded privately in 1854, the fair was held in several locations in the state making it more of a regional event. It was also not profitable. That changed when the fair moved to this location, and its profitability eventually led to funding from the Iowa General Assembly and a permanent location on the east side of the city. Brown's Park continued for a while longer and the streetcar line from Des Moines opened in 1889. The historic district is the northwest section of a former suburb known as Greenwood Park. It was incorporated as a city in the area of Brown's Park in 1881, and in 1890 it was annexed into the city of Des Moines. The Greenwood Park Association bought Brown's Park 1892. While it was platted for residential development, housing was not built here until 1910 and into the 1920s. For the most part, it continued to be used as a park until then. The part of the district north of Ingersoll Avenue is exclusively residential. Apartment buildings were built in the Greenwood Park Plat from 1918 to 1926, and five of them remain. Three churches were built in the district between 1922 and 1938. They include St. Augustine Catholic Church (1922), Plymouth Congregational Church (1926; now United Church of Christ), and Central Presbyterian Church (1938). Four medical buildings and an office building were built along 39th Street and on Ingersoll Avenue between 1955 and 1961. Prior to this, there was virtually no commercial development in Greenwood Park. Five more were completed between 1963 and 1975.

Plymouth Place is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Construction of the building was initiated by Plymouth Congregational Church, which faces Plymouth Place on the opposite side of Ingersoll Avenue. Ground-breaking occurred on June 12, 1966. Completed in 1968, the 12-story structure rises to a height of 161.01 feet (49.08 m). This circular residential building was designed by local architect Raymond Hueholt. It has an unusual interior plan where a common central living room area is surrounded by peripheral living units. The building is also significant for providing quality affordable senior housing for low-income people regardless of religion or creed. At the time the Greenwood Park Plats Historic District was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 it was considered a non-contributing property in the district, but it was considered significant on its own. The building was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Theodore Roosevelt High School, usually referred to simply as Roosevelt High School or TRHS, is a public secondary school located on the west side of Des Moines, Iowa. It is one of five secondary schools in the Des Moines Independent Community School District, and was named after the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.

The Josiah Andrews House is an historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It is a 2½-story, rectangular, frame, front gable dwelling. It features Stick Style strips on the gable end, and brackets along the cornice. The property on which it stands is part of one of ten plats that were owned by Drake University. The university sold the lot to J. and H.L. Andrews in 1896, and they built this house at that time. Its significance is attributed to the effect of the university's innovative financing techniques upon the settlement of the area around the campus. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The David W. Smouse Opportunity School is a historical building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The building was designed by the Des Moines architectural firm of Proudfoot, Rawson, Souers & Thomas in the Tudor Revival style. The school opened in 1931 and served the educational needs of 165 students with physical disabilities that were unable to attend a regular public school. It was the only school in Iowa that was built to desegregate handicapped children, who were generally institutionalized in isolation. The facility was designed for their individual needs. The blackboards were tilted to prevent glare for the visually impaired, rooms were designed to carry sound vibrations for the hearing impaired students. Large windows and three courtyards provided fresh air. One of the courtyards had a fountain. The restrooms were adapted, temperature controls in each classroom, and a rooftop playground was included in the building's design. A swimming pool was added in 1955. Financial gifts were used to purchase works of art throughout the building. Imported ceramic tiles, wrought iron signs, working fireplaces and decorative light fixtures also adorned the facility. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
