Nurmijärvi (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈnurmiˌjærʋi]) is the most populated rural municipality of Finland, located 37 kilometres (23 mi) north of the capital Helsinki. The neighboring municipalities of Nurmijärvi are Espoo, Vantaa, Tuusula, Hyvinkää and Vihti, and it is part of the Greater Helsinki. The population of the municipality is 44,773 inhabitants. In recent decades, it has been one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Greater Helsinki and also in whole Finland in terms of population. The close proximity to Helsinki has led to a considerable growth of the major villages such as Klaukkala, Rajamäki and Röykkä. Klaukkala is the biggest built-up area of Nurmijärvi, which nowadays is considered a dormitory town of Helsinki. The Nurmijärvi church village (Kirkonkylä) is the administrative centre of the municipality, although the clear emphasis on population growth is in Klaukkala. Nurmijärvi literally means "lawn lake" although the lake that gave the municipality its name was drained in the early 20th century and is now nothing more than some flat fields near the village centre. Nurmijärvi is one of three municipalities in the Uusimaa region that do not have a Swedish name; the others are Askola and Mäntsälä. Matti Vanhanen, former Prime Minister of Finland, lives in the Lepsämä village in Nurmijärvi.

Nurmijärvi Church (Finnish: Nurmijärven kirkko, Swedish: Nurmijärvi kyrka) is a wooden church in Nurmijärvi, built in 1793. The church was built by Matti Åkerblom. The bell tower was completed in 1795 and was built by Mats Åkergren. The church is the fourth wooden church built in the Nurmijärvi village, the previous church built in 1692 was demolished in 1793. In 1776 King Gustav III ordered the churches to be built of stone. The lawns leaned on the parish of the church and were allowed to build a wooden church. At the end of the 18th century, the church was on the shore of the lake, but the "Kirkkojärvi" was drained in the 20th century. The Church is a transcendental cross church. There are bevels in the inner corner, and there are hallways at the end of the three bars. The ungodly shroud of the church has a roof razor. A lot of artefacts have been donated to the church, such as a candlestick, a candlestick and vases hanging on a central cross. Also stained glass has been donated. The appearance and interior of the church has been changed several times. The current look is from 1932. The church was painted externally in the renovation of 1993, when the roof was also greeted. Changes have also taken place indoors. For example, in the 1830s, images of the Apostles and other biblical images covered with white paint in the 1880s were painted in magazines and pulpit. The interior was repaired and painted on the church's 200th anniversary, and old wall paintings were brought out. The 1993 repair was designed by Touko Saari Architects. The altarpiece, the ascension of Jesus, is from 1832 and painted by C. Elfström. The late Baroque furrows built by Martti Porthan in 1993 are 30-fold. They are the third organ of the Church. In the repair of the 1990s, the church benches were designed to be more comfortable to sit on, although they are otherwise original. The front seats are now portable as well as the altar bracket, making it easier to organize music and choir events in the church. The benchmark has been cut, the church was originally occupied by the then Nurmijärvi settlement population, about one thousand people. The Nurmijärvi parish has two other churches, the Klaukkala Church completed in 2004 and the Rajamäki Church from 1938.

The Nurmijärvi church village (also known as Nurmijärvi; Finnish: Nurmijärven kirkonkylä) is the administrative center of the municipality by the same name in Uusimaa, Finland, with about 8,000 inhabitants. At the end of 2018, the population of the Nurmijärvi's urban area in accordance with Statistics Finland's agglomeration area was 7,429, made it the second most-populated urban area of the municipality. It is located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from Rajamäki, 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Röykkä and 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from the municipality's largest and the most-populated urban area, Klaukkala. The connecting road 1311 (former regional road 131) runs through the center between the Rajamäki and Hämeenlinnanväylä junctions. There is also a road connection to the center of Tuusula, as regional road 139 runs through the village of Palojoki towards Hyrylä. The largest industrial and business area in the municipality, Ilvesvuori, is being built near the center by the Tampere Highway (E12), and a large logistics center owned by Kesko is being built there, among other things. Next to Ilvesvuori, along the motorway, there is Myllykukko, known as a place for refueling and eating, and its services include Hesburger and Subway restaurants, among others.Nurmijärvi center has many service sector jobs. Its municipal services include the municipal hall, library, several grocery stores (three Kesko's and one S Group's), main health center, fire station and police station. It also has two primary schools (Maaniittu school and Lukkari School) and one high school. Other facilities include the Kino Juha cinema and bus station. The grocery chain Lidl and the discount store chain Tokmanni opened their stores in August 2022. There is also Finland's only Erätukku, a store specializing in equipments of wilderness hiking and fishing, which reopened in 2018 with the help of a new owner. In 2021, the Bowling Corner & Billiard leisure venue was opened, where people can go bowling and play billiards. On Aleksis Kiven tie street is the Nurmijärvi church (1793) and the cemetery, the old rectory called Lukkarila, and Mäntylä, the house of Malakias Costiander, the first schoolmaster of Nurmijärvi; Costiander was known as Aleksis Kivi's teacher. Near the church was also the first pharmaceutical factory in Finland, once founded by Albin Koponen. Next to the village was once a lake of the same name, which was partially drained in the 1920s and completely in the 1950s to gain more farmland.The village served as a filming location for the 1954 comedy film Hilma's Name Day (Hilmanpäivät), directed by Matti Kassila.

Numlahti (Swedish: Numlax) is a rural village in the municipality of Nurmijärvi, close to the village of Perttula and five kilometers from Klaukkala. The Numlahti Manor, which dates back to 1594 and is the oldest manor of the municipality, is located in Numlahti along the Lopentie road. The lands of the manor were separated after the World War II for immigrants who came from Karelia to be redeemed, thus forming a so-called "karelian village". Between Perttula, Uotila and Numlahti was once lake called Kuhajärvi, which was dried in a field partly in the 1830s and 1850s, and then completely in the 1920s and 1940s. Numlahti has no school of its own, but the pupils go to other schools in the municipality.

Rajamäki (Finnish: [ˈrɑjɑˌmæki]; literally translated "border hill") is a village in the municipality of Nurmijärvi in southern Finland. Rajamäki is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of the capital Helsinki and has a population of around 7,500 inhabitants. Formerly, Rajamäki was the largest of Nurmijärvi's villages, until in the 1970s Klaukkala grew larger than Rajamäki. It is 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from Rajamäki to the center of Nurmijärvi. Rajamäki is best known for its alcohol distillery which was established in 1888 because of the fresh and pure water found in the area. The distillery was a part of the old Finnish alcohol monopoly Alko and is now part of the Altia corporation. Dilution and bottling of Koskenkorva Viina, distilled in the distillery in Koskenkorva, Ilmajoki, is done in Rajamäki. During World War II, the factory produced around 500,000 Molotov cocktails with the word "Rajamäki" inscribed on the bottle cap.Rajamäki has an elementary school and a high school which is focused on the sport of floorball as many of Finland's top young players live in the area. Lähde, the business center for the grocery stores, restaurants, and other services opened in Rajamäki on Thursday October 11, 2018.The Hanko–Hyvinkää railway passes through Rajamäki which tends to boost the businesses of the village.

Taaborinvuori is a museum area in the Palojoki village in Nurmijärvi, Finland. The museum area consists of buildings imported from all over Nurmijärvi, whose exhibitions tell about everyday life in Nurmijärvi at the beginning of the 20th century. It was founded at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. Taaborinvuori belonged to the childhood landscapes of the Finnish author Aleksis Kivi, and he also named it after Mount Tabor in Israel, familiar from biblical accounts. Kivi's birthplace is located next to Taaborinvuori hill. The Kivi festival (Kivi-juhlat), which has performed the production of Aleksis Kivi since 1952, takes place every summer at the outdoor theatre of Taaborinvuori. The theater is also used by other event organizers, such as the Taabori Summer Theater (Taaborin Kesäteatteri), which is directed by director, screenwriter and author Taavi Vartia. The auditorium has a capacity of 700 people and most of the auditorium is covered.

Palojoki (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈpɑloˌjoki]; literally "fire river") is a village of about a thousand inhabitants in Nurmijärvi, Finland. It is located close to the border of Tuusula, about 30 kilometers north of Helsinki, and the regional road 139 (Palojoentie on the Nurmijärvi side, Nahkelantie on the Tuusula side) runs from the Nurmijärvi's church village to Hyrylä, Tuusula. Klaukkala is 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Palojoki. The village has a primary school called Palojoki School (Palojoen koulu). The village is named after the adjacent Palojoki River, which flows into the Vantaa River near the village. The area of the village is about 50 km2 and its highest point (Haukkaankallio) is about 50 m above sea level. Palojoki is home to one of the nationally significant built cultural environments defined by the Finnish Heritage Agency.

Mäntysalo (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈmæntyˌsɑlo], literally translated "pine woodland") is a residential area of about one thousand inhabitants in the northern part of Klaukkala in Nurmijärvi municipality. It is one of the largest growth areas in Klaukkala. Haikala and Ripatti, the other residential areas of Klaukkala, are located around Mäntysalo. The most important road connection to the center of Klaukkala is Kirkkotie, which divides the areas of Haikala and Mäntysalo. The future Klaukkala bypass, Klaukkalan kehätie, which is under construction, will pass north of Mäntysalo.

Numlahti Manor (Finnish: Numlahden kartano, Swedish: Numlax gård) is a manor house and mansion located in Nurmijärvi, close to the villages of Valkjärvi and Numlahti along the Lopentie road. The Numlahti Manor is the oldest manor of Nurmijärvi.

Kuhakoski (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈkuhɑˌkoski]; literally meaning "zander rapids") is a rapids near the village of Perttula in Nurmijärvi, Finland. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Numlahti Manor and the Regional Road 132, 34 kilometres (21 mi) north of Helsinki. At the same time, Kuhakoski is the largest waterfall in the entire Uusimaa region, as it has a height of 16 meters. It is part of the Vantaa River watershed, which descends stepwise to Lake Valkjärvi with a length of 150 meters.The rapids themselves start from a river excavated into the rock, to which the water of the Luhtajoki River flows soon after crossing the Loppi Road and then the old stone arch bridge. After the rocky outcrop, the water falls down in three large stumps, then bubbling through the woods into a rural landscape filled with fields. The field before the Loppi Road undercut by the rapids is the former drained Lake Kuhajärvi.Kuhakoski's waterfalls has played an important part in the history of Nurmijärvi, as the rapids were once the most important mill rapids in the area. Since the beginning of the 16th century, four separate mills (the mills of the villages of Perttula, Uotila, Valkjärvi and Numlahti) and later also sawmilling have been operated in the rapids. In 1910, a small power plant was built in Kuhakoski by the Perttula and Uotila houses. The operation of the power plant continued until 1952. Even today, the foundations and ruins of the mills can be seen in the waterfall, reminiscent of the industrial history of the rapids. Other identifiable landmarks include the semi-two-storey brick building above the Valkjärventie road above the rapids, which was a former machine and car repair shop in Perttula from 1937 to 1972.In the northern part of the rapids, and especially in its eastern part, there is dry meadow, and on the rock along the rapids, bluebells and maiden pinks grow, among other things.

Klaukkala church (Finnish: Klaukkalan kirkko, Swedish: Klövskogs kyrka) is a copper-plated modern church in Klaukkala of the Nurmijärvi municipality, built in 2004. The church was designed by Anssi Lassila; interior furniture and lamps were designed by interior architect Antti Paatero and liturgical textiles by Hanna Korvela. Mikko Heikka, a bishop of the Evangelic Lutheran Church, dedicated it on November 28, 2004. Construction claimed one death when a worker fell from the roof.Klaukkala Church was awarded the "Concrete of the Year" honorable mention in 2004.

Kauppakeskus Viiri is a shopping mall in the southeast part of Klaukkala, Finland. It is the largest shopping centre in the Nurmijärvi municipality. The mall is divided into Big Viiri (Isoviiri) and Little Viiri (Pikkuviiri). In the spring, the Viiri Fair (Viirin Messut) is held annually in the shopping center. The fair has companies from the shopping center, as well as other stakeholders and sports clubs. An extension, including a Prisma hypermarket, and a new market were planned for the mall. These were to be realized with the construction of the Viirinlaakso area, but HOK-Elanto withdrew from the project and moved Klaukkala's old S-market to a nearby retail space.
