Linden Hall, Pennsylvania

The Linden Hall Historic District is located in Linden Hall, Harris Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, U.S. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The district incorporates the historic village of Linden Hall, which dates from the late 1700s. The resources within the district, which total 33 structures, range in date from 1810 to 1919. The district represents an excellent collection of diverse 19th and early 20th century vernacular dwelling styles representative of small rural villages in central Pennsylvania. Linden Hall is one of the oldest continually inhabited communities in western Penns Valley and closely resembles in its scale and mix of resources, other local villages which evolved around mills established in the early 19th century.The town originally developed as a mill site along Cedar Run around 1800. The village expanded northward from the mill site throughout the 19th century. Though never very large, Linden Hall reached its greatest extent around the turn of the century. A train station was added to the village when the railroad was extended through the valley in 1885. Today, the early commercial enterprises are gone, robbing Linden Hall of a central focus and leaving gaps among the homes that remain. Major buildings include the Rock Hill School, the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Irvin residence. Homes are principally Victorian in style and are of frame construction. Although some are only one story in height, most range from two to two-and-a-half stories.

Boalsburg is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Harris Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,722 at the 2010 census. The village claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. However, that claim was brought into question by Bellware and Gardiner in their book, The Genesis of the Memorial Day Holiday in America, in 2014. In their book, Bellware and Gardiner point out that the Boalsburg story was first published in 1904, forty years after the fact with no indication that General Logan drew inspiration from any activities in Boalsburg and no evidence that it started the holiday.

Tussey Mountain is a ski resort and all-seasons recreation area located in Boalsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania, near State College and Penn State University and is the gateway to the Rothrock State Forest. Tussey Mountain includes the Tussey Mountain Amphitheater for concerts and festivals, a Lodge for weddings and parties, and a Fun Centre that offers go-karts, mini-golf, batting cages, a skate park, driving range and a par 3 golf course. Discounted rates are offered for students of Penn State University. In the winter season, Tussey Mountain has 14 trails, with the longest one being about 3/4 of a mile. The top elevation at Tussey Mountain is 1,819 feet (554 m), and there are 38 acres (150,000 m2) skiable at the Tussey Mountain Ski Area.

Boalsburg Historic District is a national historic district located in the village of Boalsburg in Harris Township Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. The district includes 140 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Boalsburg. The district is characterized by a predominance of Georgian and Victorianized-Georgian buildings dated from 1803 to 1870. Notable non-residential buildings include the David Boal Tavern (1803), Wolf's Inn (1803-1832), and Boalsburg Tavern (1819). Located in the district is the separately listed Boal Mansion.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Leonard Rhone House, also known as Rhoneymeade, is a historic home located at Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. It was built about 1853, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, L-shaped brick dwelling with a gable roof. It sits on a limestone foundation. The interior has a traditional Georgian center hall plan. Also on the property is a contributing outbuilding. The house was built by Leonard Rhone, who is traditionally regarded as the father of the Grange Fair.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.The house and the surrounding property are now maintained as an arboretum and sculpture garden. There also is a labyrinth on the property. Visitors are welcomed free of charge on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm from April through October.

Hill House, also known as the Col. James Johnston House, is an historic home which is located in Boalsburg, Harris Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Boal Mansion is a historic home located at Boalsburg, Harris Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. The original pioneer cabin was built in 1809 and was a simple 1+1⁄2-story stone house. It was incorporated as the kitchen and kitchen hall when the house was expanded. The expansion is a two-story stone house in the Georgian style which measures 30 by 50 feet (9.1 by 15.2 m) and has a side hall plan. The house was expanded again between 1898 and 1905 by Theodore Davis Boal and introduced some Beaux-Arts style design. The main façade was expanded from three to five bays. The collection on display includes the admiral's desk of Christopher Columbus, a lock of hair of Napoleon, two pieces of the true cross of Jesus and the carriages, tools and weapons of eight generations of Boals. Also on the property is the 16th century Columbus Chapel, which was imported from Spain in 1909; an 1898 hipped-roof carriage house; a silo and Boal Barn, previously a summer theater; a stone smoke house; and two outdoor fireplaces. The house, open as a historic house museum, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
