SDU merged with Prince of Wales College (PWC) in 1969 to form the University of Prince Edward Island. St. Dunstan's College was founded by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlottetown on January 15, 1855 as a seminary which trained young men for the Catholic clergy. The St. Andrew's College, founded in 1831, was its predecessor.By the mid-20th century, the college had expanded into a small liberal arts university. A post-Second World War enrollment boom mandated an expansion which saw new residences and teaching buildings constructed on the campus located along Charlottetown's Elm Avenue (the Malpeque Road). SDU received a provincial degree-granting charter in 1917 but didn't actually award its first bachelor's degrees until the spring 1941 convocation. SDU had formerly been affiliated with Université Laval, awarding joint degrees from the 1890s onward. Following the decision to start granting its own degrees, SDU severed the relationship with Laval by 1956.Similarly to PWC, SDU also operated a high school, offering senior matriculation to those students wishing to continue into academic or professional studies. Saint Dunstan's sports teams were known as the Saints. By the 1960s, the provincial government in Prince Edward Island began a critical study of its post-secondary education institutions (PWC and SDU), concluding that a merger to form a provincial university was the desired funding and service model for future students. The merger was not without controversy as emotions ran high among supporters of both institutions; however, in May 1969 the last classes graduated from PWC and SDU, and the institutions were merged into the University of Prince Edward Island, which opened for the first time in September 1969 on what had been the SDU campus. At the same time as UPEI was formed, Elm Avenue was renamed by the City of Charlottetown to University Avenue, a name by which it is still referred to. The PWC campus on Grafton Street was taken over by the provincial government and formed the basis for a community college known as Holland College.

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the only university in the province. Founded in 1969, the enabling legislation is the University Act, R.S.P.E.I 2000.

The purpose of Maritime Christian College is to biblically educate and equip people to become disciples of Jesus who make disciples.

Charlottetown (formerly Hillsborough) is a federal electoral district in Prince Edward Island, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. The district, which includes the entire City of Charlottetown, has an area of 46 km2 and a population of 34,562 as of 2011.Hillsborough was formed in 1966 (from the old Queen's (Prince Edward Island federal electoral district). It elected its first MP in 1968. It was re=drawn and re-named Charlottetown in 2003.

Charlottetown Rural High School (CRHS), known colloquially as "The Rural", is a Canadian secondary school in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Students who attend the school come from the north and east parts of Queens County, including the City of Charlottetown and the town of Stratford. The school is administratively part of the Public Schools Branch on Prince Edward Island. Its official colors are red and white and the mascot is an osprey, also referred to as a Raider. The sports teams are called the Rural Raiders.

Charlottetown-Sherwood was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was created prior to the 2007 election from Stanhope-East Royalty, Sherwood-Hillsborough, Parkdale-Belvedere and Winsloe-West Royalty. The district was replaced by Charlottetown-Winsloe.

Charlottetown Research and Development Centre is a research facility that falls under the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada umbrella. The centre was founded in 1909 and focuses on research to enhance environmentally sustainable crop production systems of the Atlantic regions.

Queens Royalty is the royalty for Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The township was established as part of the colonial survey of 1764 undertaken by Capt. Samuel J. Holland. It was intended to host the colonial capital of Prince Edward Island and shire town of Queens County, what would become known as Charlottetown. The township is located on a peninsula bounded by the North (Yorke) River on the west and the East (Hillsborough) River on the east. Originally, Charlottetown was unincorporated, therefore the "royalty" and the community were largely synonymous, with many using the term "Charlottetown Royalty". Charlottetown itself was not officially incorporated as a town until 1855 (and then only hosted 6,000 residents) and only became a city in 1885. The municipality's early boundaries (surveyed as 500 residential/commercial land parcels) only occupied a small portion of the township, with the remainder being divided into 12 acre properties, some of which were purchased as farms from the Crown, the remainder being estates or unused lands. The township was subdivided into an East Royalty, Central Royalty, and West Royalty, with the Central Royalty having common grazing land for all residents. Today, the royalty is almost entirely within the boundaries of the current city of Charlottetown, which has merged various outlying municipalities and rural areas through municipal amalgamation. Queens Royalty is part of Charlotte Parish.

CBAF-FM-15 is a French language Canadian radio station located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Owned and operated by the (government-owned) Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (French: Société Radio-Canada), it broadcasts on 88.1 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 33,500 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 94,200 watts (class C). The station has an ad-free news/talk format and is part of the Ici Radio-Canada Première network, which operates across Canada. Like all Première stations, but unlike most FM stations, it broadcasts in mono. The station signed on sometime in the late 1970s as a rebroadcaster of CBAF in Moncton. On October 3, 1983, a first radio show was produced for the Island from Moncton (La marée de l'Île, hosted by Maurice Arsenault). In 1994, it officially became a separate station, though it still has rebroadcaster-like calls.The station has its own morning drive show, produced in Charlottetown since September 1, 1996. Denis Duchesne is the host of Le Réveil, Monday to Friday from 6 to 9 a.m. The rest of its programming is a simulcast of CBAF-FM-5 from Halifax, Nova Scotia.On November 21, 2005, the CRTC granted CBAF-FM-15 to operate rebroadcasters in St. Edward and Urbainville to serve areas on the fringe of the primary transmitter's signal. CBAF-FM-15 was originally identified as CBAF-29-FM; the call sign change took effect on September 1, 1989, as the old 1300 kHz AM signal of CBAF was shut down.

Spring Park is a Canadian neighbourhood in the city of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Spring Park derived its name in 1925 from the Spring Park School District whose southern boundary at that time was located along the northern boundary of the city of Charlottetown and west of the villages of Parkdale and Sherwood. The community was defined by Spring Park Road which ran north from the city to serve what was then a rural farming district consisting of 12 acres (4.9 ha) estates in the unincorporated township of Queens Royalty. Population growth and development pressures in Charlottetown following World War II saw parts of Spring Park south of Kirkwood Drive successively merged into the city. In the early 1950s a new Spring Park School was constructed on Kirkwood Drive; this building stood where the current Charlottetown Police Department is located on Kirkwood Drive. The school district was incorporated as a village in 1954 and was roughly delineated by Eden Street, Kirkwood Drive, Colonel Gray Drive, the east bank of the North River, the southern boundary with West Royalty along Hermitage Creek and the north end of the University of Prince Edward Island campus, and the former railway corridor (now the Confederation Trail). A municipal building named "Spring Park Hall" and a fire station housing the "Spring Park Volunteer Fire Department" were located on a municipal property named "Spring Park Square" which also included Spring Park School. This property was bounded by University Avenue, Kirkwood Drive, Willow Street and Eden Street. Since it was located outside the city limits, Spring Park Square played host to many larger outdoor events such as circuses from the 1920s-1950s. The village was dissolved on April 17, 1958 in a municipal amalgamation with the City of Charlottetown. Development pressures on the Spring Park School district by a flood of young families to new subdivisions in the early 1960s saw this school replaced in 1964 by a building located on Dunkirk Street. The neighbourhood is Charlottetown's first post-war suburb and consists of smaller bungalows interspersed with some larger homes and is defined by mature trees lining quiet streets. This is likely the most accessible Charlottetown neighbourhood to services within walking distance with several popular churches, shopping services, restaurants, schools, and employment locations being located within and adjacent to the area. The neighbourhood expanded significantly during the late 1960s with the construction of Colonel Gray High School on the Simmons Estate fronting Spring Park Road immediately south of the former municipal boundary. Residential subdivisions such as Holland Park and Skyview were developed in the late 1960s and 1970s, followed by Westwood and Marysfield in the 1980s and 1990s.

Ardgowan is a National Historic Site of Canada located in Parkdale, Prince Edward Island, currently a neighbourhood of the city of Charlottetown. The Ardgowan estate contains the country cottage of William Henry Pope, one of the Fathers of Confederation. In contrast to the majority of islanders, Pope was decidedly pro-Confederation, and hosted delegates and observers of the Charlottetown Conference of 1864 at his house. In this relaxed social setting, participants better understood one another, helping to forge a new national vision.Ardgowan National Historic Site was designated in 1966. The house and five of its original 76 acres were acquired by the national park service in 1967—the centennial of Confederation—to honor all Fathers of Confederation, and to preserve an example of a picturesque rural Victorian cottage of the Confederation Era. The building and grounds are restored to an 1860s appearance. The grounds are open to the public, while the building houses Parks Canada staff, and is the administrative center for all national park system sites in Prince Edward Island.
