Colton is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, seven miles south-west of York. The closest town is Tadcaster. In 2011 the parish had a population of 212.

St Paul's Church is an Anglican church in Colton, North Yorkshire, a village in England. Until the end of the 19th century, Anglicans in Colton worshipped at All Saints' Church, Bolton Percy. In 1899, a church was built in the village, to a design by Walter Brierley and James Demaine. It is a single-cell red brick structure. There is a monthly communion service held in the church.

Steeton Hall Farm is a historic building in the civil parish of Steeton, North Yorkshire, south-west of York in England. Steeton Hall was in existence by the 12th century, when a chapel was built. In about 1474, Guy Fairfax replaced the old hall with a large manor house, with a moat. In the 1558, his descendent, William Fairfax, made an inventory of the property, which had nine bedrooms, two studies, a hall and a parlour. In the early 18th century, the building was reduced in size, with the demolition of its wings, and the building later became a farmhouse. The chapel was converted into a granary, and demolished in 1873. The house was Grade II* listed in 1985.The building is constructed of Magnesian Limestone, with a slate and pantile roof, and brick chimneys. There is also a brick extension, dating from the 20th century. The house is two storeys high, and has seven first floor windows, with the entrance door under the sixth window. The doorway has a Tudor arch, and the door is panelled. Most of the windows have mullion and transoms, and inside some boxed timber beams are visible.Outside the house, there is a 20-metre wall, built in the 15th century of Magnesian Limestone, which originally formed part of a range of buildings. It incorporates a 12th-century archway, which was the entrance to the chapel. This structure is Grade II listed. Part of the moat also survives, as a ditch.

The Old Windmill is a disused windmill in Appleton Roebuck, a village south-west of York in England. The four-storey tower windmill was constructed in about 1820, to grind corn. It is built of brick and is circular, tapering as it rises. It has two arched entrances, with multiple arched windows above. The mill's sails were dismantled in the 1930s, and its machinery was removed during World War II. The mill fell into ruin, losing its roof and many internal features. Despite this, it was Grade II listed in 1987. The mill was purchased by the Houseman family in 1964, along with the surrounding land. In 2018, the family sold the mill for £200,000, having obtained outline planning permission for its conversion into a house. Ian Hazard designed the conversion, which includes three single-storey outbuildings, providing additional living space. The mill is visible from the East Coast Mainline, and from its top floor, there is a view of York Minster.

Bilbrough () is a village and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England, 6 miles (10 km) south-west of York, and just outside the York city boundary. According to the 2001 Census it had a population of 319 increasing to 348 at the 2011 census.The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.

St James' Church is the parish church of Bilbrough, a village between York and Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, in England. A church was built on the site in the 12th century, initially as a chapel in the parish of Askham Richard. By the early 19th century, it remained a small building, seating 76 people, with a west tower and south door. In 1873, the church was largely demolished, with only the south-east chapel retained. The Norman font was moved to the garden of the old rectory. A new church was built to the designs of George Fowler Jones, in a broadly Norman style. The church was reordered in 1970, and the mediaeval altar stone was dug up and incorporated into the new altar table. In 1985, the church was Grade II listed.The church is built of sandstone, with a Magnesian Limestone plinth, quoins and window surrounds, and a roof of Welsh slate. There is a north-west tower, a nave and a chancel, a vestry to the north-east, and the south-east chapel. The chapel has a Perpendicular window. Inside the chapel is the tomb of Thomas Fairfax, dating from 1671.

The Ainsty or the Ainsty of York was a historic district of Yorkshire, England, west of the city of York. Originally a wapentake or subdivision of the West Riding of Yorkshire it later had a unique status as a rural area controlled by the corporation of the city.

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based in Askham Bryan, York, England. It also has centres in Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Saltaire and Wakefield. It was built in 1936, but not opened until after World War II as the Yorkshire Agricultural Institute. It first opened to students in 1948. The college runs courses in Agriculture, Animal Management, Veterinary Nursing, Equine, Engineering, Motorsport, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Floristry, Countryside Management, Outdoor Adventure Sport, Sport Coaching and Fitness, Uniformed Public Services and Foundation Vocational Programmes. The college farm is 1,022 acres (414 ha) and supports three farms: Westfield Farm which accommodates a 250 Holstein Friesian dairy herd and the National Beef Training Centre; East Barrow Farm which houses the college Equine Department with 53 horses and Animal Management Department; and Headley Hall Farm which is the arable farm formerly of the University of Leeds. Newton Rigg College, based in Penrith, Cumbria, became part of Askham Bryan College in 2011; while Liz Philip was Principal; in 2020 Tim Whitaker announced that teaching at the site would cease in July 2021. According to Cumbrian Lord Inglewood, the process of asset stripping may be "unlawful". Between 2016 and 2020 student numbers at Newton Rigg fell by 40%. Alumni include Geoffrey Smith, a horticulturalist, writer and broadcaster; and Joe Maiden, a horticulturalist and broadcaster for BBC Radio Leeds.

Appleton Roebuck is a village and civil parish in the former Selby District of North Yorkshire, England. The village is about 9 miles (14 km) south-west of York. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Holme Green and Nun Appleton, and covers an area of around 2,900 acres (1,200 ha). The parish had a population of 692 according to the 2001 census, increasing to 871 in the 2021 census and including Acaster Selby.In February 2000 much of Appleton Roebuck was designated a Conservation Area under Section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, and consists of 18th- and 19th-century buildings. There are six listed buildings within the Conservation Area, all Grade II, including two places of worship.

All Saints' Church is the parish church of Appleton Roebuck, a village south-west of York, in England. Until 1868, Appleton Roebuck was in the parish of Bolton Percy. That year, a church was constructed in the village, designed by John Bownas Atkinson, and his brother William Atkinson. In 1875, the parish was merged with that of neighbouring Acaster Selby, though All Saints remained the parish church. The church was grade II listed in 1978.The church is built in sandstone, with red brick in the interior, and it has a tile roof. It consists of a four-bay nave with a south porch, and a two-bay chancel with a north vestry. At the west end is a twin bellcote below which is a clock face. Most of the windows have two lights, while the east window has three, and they are in the Geometrical style. The nave has a higher roof than the chancel. Inside, there is a hammerbeam roof, and the chancel arch is supported on black marble piers. One stained glass window on the south side of the nave is by Charles Eamer Kempe.

Askham Richard is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of City of York in the north of England, 6.5 miles (10.5 km) south-west of York, close to Copmanthorpe, Bilbrough and Askham Bryan. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 351. The village became a Conservation Area in 1975. Nearby is Askham Bryan College of Agriculture. The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Selby District in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority.
