Fort Lévis

The Battle of the Thousand Islands was an engagement fought on 16–24 August 1760, in the upper St. Lawrence River, among the Thousand Islands, along the present day Canada–United States border, by British and French forces during the closing phases of the Seven Years' War, as it is called in Canada and Europe, or the French and Indian War as it is referred to in the United States. The engagement took place at Fort Lévis (about one mile (1.6 km) downstream from the modern Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge), Pointe au Baril (present-day Maitland, Ontario), and the surrounding waters and islands during the Montreal Campaign. The small French garrison at Fort Lévis held the much larger British army at bay for over a week, managing to sink two British warships and to cripple a third. Their resistance delayed the British advance to Montreal from the west.

Ogdensburg Correctional Facility was a medium-security state prison for male prisoners, located in the northern part of St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The prison is located in the northeast corner of Ogdensburg near the St. Lawrence River. The facility closed in 2022.The facility housed one of New York State's centers for sex offenders civilly committed. The facility was also used as a Federal Immigration Detention Facility for Immigration Court matters heard in Ulster County, New York. Nearby Riverview Correctional Facility is also a medium-security prison.

The Ogdensburg–Prescott Border Crossing connects the cities of Ogdensburg, New York and Johnstown, Ontario on the Canada–United States border, and is located at the Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge. Even though it is located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of the cities, the bridge and the border crossing are named for Ogdensburg and Prescott because they were intended to replace ferry service between the two cities when the bridge was built in 1960. Prior to 1960, vessels crossed between Ogdensburg and Prescott (and border inspections were conducted) since 1800. The US border inspection station shown in the photo was built in 1960. The inspection canopy was replaced, and the building significantly upgraded and expanded in 2004. The Canada border station was replaced in 2012.

The Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge (also known as the St. Lawrence Bridge and the Seaway Skyway) is a suspension bridge connecting Ogdensburg, New York in the United States to Johnstown, Ontario (a few kilometres east of Prescott) in Canada. Designed by Modjeski & Masters and completed in 1960, it has six spans and a main span of 350.75 metres (1,150.8 ft) totaling 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi) across the Saint Lawrence River and Saint Lawrence Seaway. The bridge is owned and operated by the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority, which also owns and operates Ogdensburg International Airport, the Port of Ogdensburg-Marine Terminal Facility, Commerce Park, the Port of Waddington, a medium-heavy industrial park and two short line railroads. The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority is a New York State public-benefit corporation.

Riverview Correctional Facility is a medium-security state prison for men in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York, owned and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Riverview was first opened as a 700-capacity prison in 1988, one of two upstate facilities funded by New York City to house its prisoners, in a special deal between the city and state. Together with Cape Vincent Correctional Facility the construction cost was $90 million. The two were "almost identical" to each other and to the state facilities at Bare Hill and Franklin, built in the same years.Ownership of both facilities was expected to revert to the state after seven years of operation. As of 2010 Riverview had a working capacity of 882.

Johnstown is a compact rural community in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, in eastern Ontario, Canada, part of the township municipality of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal. It is at the Canadian terminus of the Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge and at the southern termini of Highway 416 and Highway 16.

The Johnstown District was a historic district in Upper Canada which existed until 1849.

Owned and operated by Community Broadcasters, LLC, WQTK broadcasts a talk radio format, using the slogan "The North Country's News And Talk Authority." WQTK has an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts. The radio studios and transmitter are on Knox Street near Champlain Street in Ogdensburg.

WSLB (1400 AM) is a sports radio station, operating from Ogdensburg, New York, United States. Prior to switching to a sports format, WSLB was an oldies radio station. WSLB is the affiliate of ESPN Radio for the St. Lawrence County area.

Galop Island is an uninhabited island in the Saint Lawrence River located in St. Lawrence County, northeast of Ogdensburg, New York. The 675-acre (2.73 km2) island is owned by the New York Power Authority and managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as the undeveloped Galop Island State Park.Galop Island has historically been known by a variety of names, including Isle Aux Galloup, Gallou Island, Butternut Island, Dillingham Island, Dixon Island, Lalone Island, Lotus Island, Round Island, Sears Island, Tick Island, and Twin Island.

Battle of the Windmill National Historic Site marks the site of the November 1838 Battle of the Windmill, fought around a grist windmill near Prescott, Ontario, Canada. In 1873, the original grist windmill was converted into a lighthouse by the Canadian Department of Marine. The lighthouse became known as Windmill Point Light.In 1996 the Friends of Windmill Point opened the 60-foot-tall stone lighthouse tower to the public as Battle of the Windmill National Historic Site, a National Historic Site of Canada. Visitors are led on a guided tour of the tower, and can climb to the top just below the lantern room for a view of the St. Lawrence River. There are interpretive panels about the battle, a video presentation, and a gift shop. The tower is open weekends in June and September, and daily in July and August, and is located on Windmill Point Road, off Highway 2, 3 km east of the town of Prescott, Ontario.

The "Battle of the Windmill" is also a fictional battle in the book Animal Farm.The Battle of the Windmill was a battle fought in November 1838 in the aftermath of the Upper Canada Rebellion. Loyalist forces of the Upper Canadian government and American troops, aided by the Royal Navy and U.S. Navy, defeated an invasion attempt by a Hunter Patriot para-military unit based in the United States, which had the intention of using the beachhead as a launchpad for further offensives into Canada. Canadian, British, and American troops thwarted the invasion, successfully defending Canadian soil and forced the invaders to surrender. Others still in the U.S. were captured and arrested by U.S. officials.
