The 2016 Republican National Convention, in which delegates of the United States Republican Party chose the party's nominees for president and vice president in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, was held July 18–21, 2016, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The event marked the third time Cleveland has hosted the Republican National Convention and the first since 1936. In addition to determining the party's national ticket, the convention ratified the party platform.There were 2,472 delegates to the Republican National Convention, with a simple majority of 1,237 required to win the presidential nomination. Most of those delegates were bound for the first ballot of the convention based on the results of the 2016 Republican presidential primaries. On July 19, 2016, the convention formally nominated Donald Trump for president and Indiana Governor Mike Pence for vice president. Trump and Pence went on to win the general election, defeating the Democratic ticket of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine.

The Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex is an entertainment complex located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. It opened in 1994 and is owned by the city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County and is managed by the Gateway Economic Development Corporation, a non-profit group with board members who are appointed by county and city leaders.The complex mainly consists of Progressive Field, a 34,830-seat baseball park that serves as home of the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball, and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, a 19,432-seat arena primarily the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. In addition, the complex includes a transitional space known as Gateway Plaza and the Gateway East parking garage. Gateway is roughly bounded by East 9th Street to the east, Huron Road to the north, Ontario Street to the west, and Carnegie Avenue to the south, and forms the basis of the larger Gateway District of downtown Cleveland.

nuCLEus was a proposed mixed-used development complex planned for the Gateway District of downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The project won unanimous approval from the Cleveland Planning Commission in November 2014, and recently received schematic design approval from the City of Cleveland in March 2019 after a thoughtful redesign to fit the city's growing population and needs in downtown Cleveland.Robert L. Stark of Cleveland-based Stark Enterprises is the lead developer on the nuCLEus. The $300M mixed-use project was going to encompass approximately two million square feet in the heart of the city at the intersection between East Fourth Street, Prospect Avenue and Huron Road, connecting many of the venues in the Central Business District. nuCLEus was planned to serve as a mixed-use, vertically integrated space with a mix of Class A office space, retail, restaurants and residential living divided between two distinct, 24 floor towers. At one time, plans included a hotel, but that was later scrapped.

The AT&T Huron Road Building (formally known as the Ohio Bell Building) is an art deco skyscraper located at 750 Huron Road in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. It serves as the corporate headquarters for Ohio Bell, a regional telephone company owned by AT&T. The building has 24 stories and rises to a height of 365 ft (111 m). It was designed by the firm of Hubbell and Benes, in what they called "Modern American Perpendicular Gothic", a style influenced by Eliel Saarinen's unrealized design for the Tribune Tower in Chicago. Work on the building began in 1925 and was completed in 1927 at a cost of $5 million. It was briefly the tallest building in Cleveland, surpassed in 1928 by the Terminal Tower.

The Hippodrome Theater was located at 720 Euclid Ave in Cleveland, Ohio. In its day, it was a very lavish theater and ranked as one of the world's greatest playhouses. Performers appearing at the Hipprodome included Enrico Caruso, Sarah Bernhardt, W. C. Fields, Will Rogers, Al Jolson, and John McCormack. The auditorium had two balconies and seating for 3,548. The stage of the Hippodrome could handle large productions and measured 130' wide, 104' deep, 110' high. It also included a water tank for water spectacles. The Hippodrome was demolished in 1981 to make way for a parking lot.

The Caxton Building is a historic building completed in 1903 in Cleveland, Ohio. It was designed by Frank Seymour Barnum's F. S. Barnum & Co architectural firm. The 8-story steel-frame office building was constructed for the Caxton Building Company and its president Ambrose Swasey. It housed graphic arts and printing businesses, and was named after William Caxton, a British printer in the 15th century.The main entrance to the building is a Romanesque architecture style terra cotta archway. It includes intricate organic cartouches in the style popularized by American architect Louis Sullivan, as well as column capitals accenting its buff-colored masonry. Its ground floor retail frontage has included restaurants and cafes.

Progressive Field is a Major League Baseball (MLB) stadium located in the downtown area of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. It is the home field of the Cleveland Guardians and, together with Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, is part of the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex. It was ranked as MLB's best ballpark in a 2008 Sports Illustrated fan opinion poll.The ballpark opened as Jacobs Field in 1994 to replace Cleveland Stadium, which the team had shared with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. Since 2008, the facility has been named for Progressive Corporation, based in the Cleveland suburb of Mayfield, which purchased naming rights for $58 million over 16 years. The previous name came from team owners Richard and David Jacobs, who had acquired naming rights when the facility opened. The ballpark is still often referred to as "The Jake" based on its original name.When it opened, the listed seating capacity was 42,865 people and between 1995 and 2001 the team sold out 455 consecutive regular-season games. Modifications over the years resulted in several moderate changes to the capacity, peaking at 45,569 in 2010. After the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the facility was renovated in two phases, which upgraded and reconfigured several areas of the park and reduced seating capacity. As of 2021, the official seating capacity is listed at 34,830 people, though additional fans can be accommodated through standing room areas and temporary seating. Since moving to Progressive Field, the Guardians have won ten Central Division titles, three American League pennants and have hosted playoff games in 12 different seasons, the most recent being in 2020. In the 1997 season, it became one of the few facilities in baseball history to host the MLB All-Star Game and games of the World Series in the same season. The Guardians have hosted games of the American League Championship Series in five seasons and have advanced to the World Series three times at the park.

Downtown Cleveland is the central business district of Cleveland, Ohio. The economic and symbolic center of the city and the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Combined Statistical Area, it is Cleveland's oldest district, with its Public Square laid out by city founder General Moses Cleaveland in 1796. Downtown's diverse architecture includes the Cleveland Mall, one of the most complete examples of City Beautiful design in the United States.Downtown is bounded by Lake Erie to the north, the Cuyahoga Valley to the west, and Interstate 90 to the south and east. Its residential population has grown significantly since the 1990s, registering the largest population growth, by percentage, of any Cleveland neighborhood over that time. In 2013, Forbes included Downtown Cleveland in a list of 15 U.S. cities with emerging downtowns. According to Crain's Cleveland Business, its population was estimated to be 20,000 by the end of 2020, making it one of the most populous downtown districts of cities of its size. According to the 2020 U.S. Census data, there are 7,244 occupied units in downtown out of a total 9,569 units, which is a 75.7% occupancy rate and despite Crain’s optimistic numbers, the 2020 census also reports 13,338 people living in the downtown area.

East 4th Street is a major downtown district in Cleveland, Ohio, known for its food, entertainment, and lack of car traffic. The street runs south from Euclid Avenue to Prospect Avenue. Once a very run down street, the area has been renovated and revitalized by the establishment of numerous restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and apartments, turning it into one of the main nightlife hotspots in the city.

The William Taylor & Son Company building is a 146-foot 9 story 1915-opened high rise apartment building in downtown Cleveland's Gateway District that had a long and fruitful former life as a major Cleveland department store. The building was originally only five floors, but when the company outgrew that floor plan, four more floors were added in 1913. The architect on the building was J. Milton Dyer who was also responsible for the Cleveland City Hall and CAC Building.

The Rose Building is a 1902-built historic high-rise office building in Downtown Cleveland's Gateway District that stands 165 feet tall, 10 stories on the corner of Prospect Avenue and East Ninth Street at the very cusp of the city's Nine-Twelve District. It is named after Cleveland businessman and charity founder Benjamin Rose. It is a designated city of Cleveland landmark. The building is the current home of the Cleveland-based health insurance group Medical Mutual of Ohio.

The Time Warner Cable Amphitheater (formerly Tower City Amphitheater) was an outdoor concert venue and part of the mixed-use Tower City Center development in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The approximately 5,000-seat venue opened in 2001 and closed in March 2011 due to construction related to the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland. The structure later was used for covered parking until it was removed in April 2012. With a location along the banks of the Cuyahoga River, the structure offered scenic views of the city lights and the river bridges. The amphitheater typically hosted 25–30 events per year, including festivals such as Great American Rib Cook-off and the Taste of Cleveland. Shows sometimes began as early as April and typically ran through September. In 2006, the building played host to such acts as Chicago, Rob Zombie, Dave Chappelle and Alice Cooper. Time Warner Cable Amphitheater was owned and operated by Live Nation, a company that also runs Jacobs Pavilion and Blossom Music Center.
