Ballyheigue Castle

Ballyheigue ( BAL-ee-HYEG), officially Ballyheige (Irish: Baile Uí Thaidhg, meaning 'town(land) of Tadhg'), is a coastal town and civil parish in County Kerry, Ireland. It is 18 km (11 mi) northwest of Tralee along the R551 road. It is a scenic locale which forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way and has several miles of beaches that connect to Banna Strand to the south, and Kerry Head to the north. Local events include the "Half on the Head" (Kerryhead) half marathon in June and an annual summer festival in July. Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes multiple ringfort, souterrain, holy well, Bullaun stone and fulacht fiadh sites in Ballyheige, Buncurrig, Dirtane and other surrounding townlands. Ballyheigue Castle, a ruined Tudor Gothic Revival style country house, was built in 1809 on the site of an earlier house. The local Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club is Ballyheigue GAA.

Ballyheigue GAA is a hurling and Gaelic football club in the Ballyheigue area of north County Kerry, Ireland. The club competes at all levels of hurling at county and North Kerry and also plays some underage football as well as competing in the county junior football league and the county novice football shield.

Banna Strand (Irish: Trá na Beannaí), also known as Banna Beach, is a beach in north County Kerry, Ireland. It is an Atlantic Ocean beach extending from the Smallrock (Roc Beag) and Blackrock in the North to Carrahane at its southern edge. It is around 12 kilometres (7 mi) north west of Tralee. It features shifting sand dunes along its entire length which rise up to 12 metres (40 ft). Carrahane lagoon on the south end, famous for migrating birds and the Roger Casement landing. The mountains of the Dingle Peninsula can be seen on the south west horizon. Many residents from Tralee make a trip to Banna Strand on the warmest summer days.

Kilmoyley, officially Kilmoyly (Irish: Cill Mhaoile), is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is 6 km southeast of Ballyheigue, and 10 km north of Tralee. Kilmoyly is in a civil parish of the same name.

Kilmoyley are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Kerry, Ireland. They are located in North Kerry, the county's main hurling area and are primarily hurlers. They are one of the most successful hurling clubs in the county. The club competes in competitions organized by Kerry GAA county board and the North Division hurling board.

Rahoneen (Irish: Ráth Eoghainín) is a small townland in the civil parish of Ardfert in County Kerry, Ireland. It is approximately 1.17 square kilometres (0.45 sq mi) in area and, as of the 2011 census, had a population of 29 people. Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a ringfort at Rathcrihane (Ráth Creacháin; 'ringfort of Creachán'). This ringfort, also known as McKenna's Fort, became known as Casement's Fort after Roger Casement was captured in the area in 1916. Casement was discovered at McKenna's Fort on 21 April 1916. He had been put ashore from U19 at nearby Banna Strand as part of a plan to transport a consignment of German weapons ahead of the 1916 Easter Rising. A ruined tower house, in Rahoneen townland, overlooks Carrahane Bay. The tower house, known as Rahoneen Castle, was historically associated with the Bishop of Ardfert. Writing in 1841, the topographer John O'Donovan (1806–1861) suggested that the castle was destroyed during the 17th-century Cromwellian invasion of Ireland.

The Ardfert Cathedral (Irish: Ardeaglais Ard Fhearta) is a ruined cathedral in Ardfert, County Kerry, Ireland. Dedicated to Saint Brendan, it was the seat of the Diocese of Ardfert from 1117. It is now a heritage tourism site.

Ardfert Abbey (Irish: Mainistir Ard Fhearta), also known as Ardfert Friary, is a ruined medieval Franciscan friary and National Monument in Ardfert, County Kerry, Ireland. It is thought to be built on the site of an early Christian monastic site founded by Brendan the Navigator. The present remains date from the mid-thirteenth century, with the residential tower being added in the 15th century. The friary was dissolved in 1584.

St Brendan's is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in the Ardfert area of north County Kerry, Ireland. St Brendan's play in the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling.

Ardfert are a Gaelic football team in north County Kerry, Ireland. They are one of two clubs in Ardfert, St Brendan's Hurling Club being the local hurling club. They play in the County Junior Football Championship and Div 2 County League. By winning the Kerry Junior Football Championship in 2005 by beating Cordal 3–11 to 3–07 they were promoted to the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship and represented Kerry in the Munster Junior Club Football Championship and in that final they beat Erin's Own 1–08 to 0–10 and represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship. On 19 February 2006, they won this championship in Croke Park by beating Loughrea 1–07 to 0–09. In 2006, they won the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship beating Annascaul and represented Kerry at the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship where they defeated Corofin of Clare 1–06 to 1–04. They then went on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship final winning that as well 1–04 to 0–05 by defeating Eoghan Rua of Derry. They now play in the Kerry Senior Club Football Championship.

Barrow Harbour is a tidal inlet off Tralee Bay, County Kerry, Ireland. Once this was the major port for the region, servicing the monastic settlement of Ardfert and the general area of Tralee. Barrow is overlooked by Tralee Golf Club, from which there are views of Tralee Bay and Banna Strand.A narrow entrance to the harbour was protected by Fenit Castle on Fenit Island. The ruins of the castle still remain. Historically, a harbour chain was connected across the entrance to the harbour, which could be raised to prevent the incursion of unwelcome visitors - pirates. Barrow House is located at the old quayside.
