St Joseph's Boys' School is a secondary school in Westway in the Creggan area of Derry, Northern Ireland. It is a voluntary maintained school, supported by the Western Education and Library Board and operated by boards of trustees and governors in collaboration with Northern Ireland's Council for Catholic Maintained Schools and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Derry. Since the school opened in September 1963, St Joseph's Secondary School (as it was known as then) has gone through tremendous changes. The old school was demolished and a new ultra modern school was opened and they changed the name to St. Joseph's Boys' School in March 2003. The principal of the school was Mr P. Hannaway with the Vice Principals being Mr . K. McCallion and Mr. P. Kealey. Hannaway resigned and Mr P. Kealey temporarily stood in until Damian Harkin was appointed as Principal. As of 2023, the principal is Mrs Ciara Deane, the third female to serve as the school Principal after the resignation of Martina McCarron who served as Principal from 2018-2022. St. Joseph's Boys' School offers a variety of subjects ranging from English, Maths, Geography and Leisure and Tourism to Technology and Design, Art and Physical Education (P.E). St Joseph's is also equipped with a number of modern computer suites, a modern gym and two specialist units. The Suspension Unit serves students who have been internally suspended, and Education plus, a unit which was set up in 2003, serves students with statements of special educational needs.In 2006, English football goalkeeper, Gordon Banks paid a visit to the school. He delivered a speech and launched Don Mullan's new book, A Hero Who Could Fly. In January 2007, the school set up a healthy eating programme which banned fizzy drinks and only water would be allowed. Water bottles marked with the initials "STJ" were provided, however the school has since banned water bottles.

Derry City Council (Irish: Comhairle Cathrach Dhoire; Ulster-Scots: Derry Cittie Cooncil) was the local government authority for the city of Derry in Northern Ireland. It merged with Strabane District Council in April 2015 under local government reorganisation to become Derry and Strabane District Council. The council provided services to nearly 108,000 people, making it the third-largest of the then 26 district councils in Northern Ireland by population. The council was made up of 30 councillors, elected every four years from five electoral areas and held its meetings in The Guildhall. The mayor for the final 2014–2015 term was Brenda Stevenson of the Social Democratic and Labour Party, with Gary Middleton of the Democratic Unionist Party serving as deputy mayor.

Brooke Park is a 3.88 acre (1.57 ha) Victorian park in the centre of Derry, Northern Ireland. The park contains many amenities, including a café, children's playground and football pitch, as well as a statue of Sir Robert Ferguson. After a period of decline and disrepair, the park was part of a £5.6 million restoration project and reopened in 2017.

St Cecilia's College is a secondary school located in Derry, Northern Ireland. It is a Catholic-maintained girls' school with an enrolment of 947 pupils aged 11–18 and is located in the Creggan area of Derry. It has 60 teaching staff. The college decanted to the Northland Road to facilitate the construction of a new building which opened for the start of term in September 2010. It was within the former Western Education and Library Board area. In March 2001 a programme for the extension and refurbishment of the college was announced under public-private partnership arrangements. In March 2006 it was announced that the College would be granted specialist arts college status from September 2006.St Cecilia's College new campus was built on the site of the original college on Bligh's Lane, Creggan. St Cecilia's new sports pavilion and playing fields were built on the grounds of St Mary's old site in Creggan.

BBC Radio Foyle (Irish: BBC Raidió Feabhail) is a BBC Northern Ireland local radio station, serving County Londonderry in Northern Ireland. It is named after the River Foyle which flows through Derry, the city where the station is based. The station broadcasts from BBC's Northland Road studios on 93.1 FM in Derry. It was available on 792 kHz MW until 6 May 2021. There is also a small television studio based there used for interviews with the interviewee sitting in front of a CSO screen which normally has a live view of Derry. Since it broadcasts from a point close to the border between County Londonderry and County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland, it includes some coverage of the latter county. It is an opt-out from BBC Radio's main Northern Ireland service, BBC Radio Ulster. BBC Radio Foyle's weekday schedule begins at 7:00am and continues until 4:00pm.

St Eugene's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral located in Derry, Northern Ireland. It is the "Mother Church" for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Derry, as well as the parish Church of the parish of Templemore.

St. Mary's College, opened in 1959, is an all-girls Catholic-maintained secondary school and Specialist Science School located in Derry, Northern Ireland. It attracts pupils from a wide catchment area, with an enrolment of nearly one thousand pupils aged 11–18 and a staff of 92. The school was formerly situated in the heart of Creggan, but moved to a newly built campus on the Northland Road. St Cecilia's College moved to a newly built campus on the grounds of where St. Marys was formerly based in Creggan.

Shantallow (from Irish Seantalamh, meaning 'old land') is a townland in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is now part of the city of Derry, and is situated within Derry and Strabane district. It lies within the civil parish of Templemore and former barony of North-West Liberties of Londonderry. The townland is no longer a visible feature of Derry, being mainly built over with 20th-century housing estates.

Annette McGavigan (1 June 1957 – 6 September 1971) was a 14-year-old girl fatally wounded by a gunshot in crossfire between British soldiers and the IRA on 6 September 1971. McGavigan's family has claimed that the bullet which killed her was fired by a British soldier.After three years of conflict in Northern Ireland, Annette became the 100th civilian to be killed in the Troubles. No individual has been charged with her death.

North West Regional College is a further education and higher education college in the north-west region of Northern Ireland. The college has five main campuses in counties Londonderry and Tyrone: Strand Road (Derry), Springtown (Derry), Main Street (Limavady), Greystone (Limavady) and Derry Road (Strabane).Following a review of further education in Northern Ireland Department for Employment and Learning, North West Regional College was established on 1 August 2007, merging the former North West Institute of Further and Higher Education and Limavady College of Further and Higher Education. Over the last 100 years, the college and its preceding organisations have provided educational courses both to school leavers and adults principally from Derry City, County Londonderry, County Tyrone and County Donegal. Each year approximately 25,000 full-time and part-time students attend the college to undertake a range of vocational and academic courses. The current principal of the college is Leo Murphy.

The Londonderry County Asylum (Irish: Tearmann Chontae Dhoire) was a psychiatric hospital at Strand Road in Derry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

The Ulster University Derry~Londonderry campus is one of the four campuses of Ulster University. It is located in Derry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland and opened in 1865 as a Presbyterian Christian arts and theological college. Since 1953, it has had no religious affiliation and provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic degree programmes in disciplines ranging from business, law, social work, creative arts & technologies, cinematic arts, design, computer science and computer games to psychology and nursing.
