University Heights is a neighborhood of the West Bronx in New York City. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise, are: West Fordham Road to the north, Jerome Avenue to the east, West Burnside Avenue to the south and the Harlem River to the west. University Avenue is the primary thoroughfare in University Heights. The neighborhood is mostly part of Bronx Community Board 5, with a small portion in Community Board 7. Its ZIP Codes include 10453 and 10468. The nearest subway is the IRT Jerome Avenue Line (4 train), operating along Jerome Avenue. The area is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 46th Precinct. NYCHA property in the area is patrolled by P.S.A. 7 at 737 Melrose Avenue in the Melrose section of the Bronx.

Ohio Field is the main outdoor athletic facility at Bronx Community College in the University Heights neighborhood of The Bronx in New York City. The field consists of a baseball diamond and large, natural grass outfield, surrounded by a 200-meter running track. Bronx Community College's athletics teams use the field for baseball and men's soccer.Early in the 20th century, Ohio Field was the main outdoor athletic venue for New York University, which occupied the University Heights campus until 1973. It was the home of the NYU Violets baseball and football teams dating back at least to 1901. It was also used for soccer and track and field competitions. NYU baseball and soccer continued to be played until the 1971-72 academic year. As NYU's football program grew in stature, the team began to play some, and eventually most, of its games at larger stadiums off-campus, such as the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium, though it continued to use Ohio Field as a practice facility.By 1952, when NYU discontinued varsity football, all home games were at Triborough Stadium on Randalls Island. The field was the site of outdoor graduation ceremonies for NYU into the 1960s.

Sedgwick Avenue is a major street in the Bronx, New York City. It runs roughly parallel to Jerome Avenue, the Major Deegan Expressway, and University Avenue. Sedgwick Avenue is one of the longest streets in the western part of the Bronx, running from Mosholu Parkway at the north to Macombs Dam Bridge at its southern end, about 800 feet (250 m) west of Yankee Stadium. A smaller Sedgwick Avenue continues into Yonkers, north of Van Cortlandt Park and east of the Saw Mill River Parkway.

The Burnside Avenue station is an express station on the IRT Jerome Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Burnside and Jerome Avenues in the Bronx, it is served by the 4 train at all times. It also serves as a rush hour short turn northern terminal for select 4 trains from Crown Heights–Utica Avenue.This station was constructed by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company as part of the Dual Contracts and opened in 1917.

Burton Arms Apartments was an edifice completed in December 1922, located at 2115 Walton Avenue and 181st Street (Manhattan) in the Bronx. The building was one block from Lexington Avenue (Manhattan)-Jerome Avenue. Advertised as the most beautiful apartment house in New York City, it could be reached via the 6th Avenue (Manhattan) - 9th Avenue (Manhattan) subway or the L at Burnside Avenue. 3,4, or 5 room rentals were available. Burton Arms Apartments is important as an early 1920s structure which provided comfortable living quarters as well as accommodations for businesses. On a plot 75 X 100 feet, it was purchased by Maurice Forman from Survell Realty Company in March 1923. At this time, it was completely rented, including its eight stores. The structure sold for $210,000, purchased from the Armstrong Brothers.In 1926, Burton Arms Apartments brought an annual rental of $29,000. The edifice was sold to Joseph Wikler by the Harstein Brothers in October 1926.

St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School was a four-year, coeducational Catholic high school located in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. A parochial school operated by the parish of the same name, St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, it opened in 1927 and closed in 1991, after years of declining enrollment. The final class of 68 students graduated on June 14, 1991.The school was known for its basketball program. In 1975, Tolentine had the city's top-ranked high school basketball team. It won the Catholic High School Athletic Association basketball championship in 1980–1982 and 1988.

WNYU-FM (89.1 FM) is a college radio station owned and operated by New York University. Its offices and studios are located at NYU's campus in lower Manhattan. WNYU's main transmitter is located at University Heights in the Bronx, the former location of NYU. Another transmitter, licensed as WNYU-FM1, a repeater located at University Plaza at the current campus.

The Church of St. Nicholas of Tolentine is a Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located at Fordham Road at University Avenue, in the Bronx borough of New York City, in the U.S. state of New York. The substantial stone twin-towered is deemed "The Cathedral of the Bronx."

The Gould Memorial Library (GML; also nicknamed Gould) is a building on the campus of the Bronx Community College (BCC), an institution of the City University of New York (CUNY), in University Heights, Bronx, New York City, United States. The building was designed by Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead & White. Constructed between 1895 and 1900 as the central library of New York University (NYU)'s Bronx campus, it was part of the New York University Libraries system. The library is named after railroad magnate Jay Gould, whose daughter Helen Miller Shepard funded the project in his memory. Gould is no longer used as a library, instead serving primarily as an event space. Gould's facade and interior are New York City designated landmarks, and it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gould is arranged in the shape of a Greek cross and is surrounded by the Hall of Fame for Great Americans to its west. The library's main entrance is on the east side, where there is a portico with a Corinthian-style colonnade. The copper dome contains an ornamental frieze as well as an oculus at its center. Inside the entrance vestibule, a barrel-vaulted stair hall leads up to offices and a circular reading room. The ornately designed reading room contains two colonnades flanking two balcony levels; multiple Tiffany glass windows; a balustrade with sixteen statues; and a coffered ceiling. Originally, the reading room was surrounded by three levels of stacks and 18 seminar rooms. Under the library was a 600-seat auditorium. New York University's Bronx campus was developed in the 1890s. Construction on the library started in 1895 after Shepard anonymously donated $200,000. During the 20th century, NYU used the library for commencement ceremonies and other events. Additionally, the university installed numerous busts of artists inside the library during the 1920s and 1930s. NYU built additional campus libraries in the 1950s due to a lack of space at Gould, and the auditorium was rebuilt after an arson attack in 1969. After NYU sold its Bronx campus to CUNY in 1973, the Gould Library was converted into an event space, and the library fell into disrepair. The auditorium was restored in 2000, and the library was further refurbished in the early 21st century.
