Little Italy, Ottawa

Corso Italia is an infill station currently under construction on the Trillium Line in Ottawa, Ontario. It will service Ottawa's Little Italy neighbourhood. It is being constructed as part of the Stage 2 O-Train expansion and is scheduled for completion in 2023. The station will consist of two side platforms and is located north of Gladstone Avenue, near Preston Street. The station was known as Gladstone during development.

The Gladstone is a live theatre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The Gladstone is "Ottawa's Home of Independent Theatre," housing productions by local indie theatre companies. It is located on Gladstone Avenue just west of Preston Street. It is the former home of the Great Canadian Theatre Company.

St. Anthony of Padua is a Roman Catholic church at 427 Booth Street in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, in the heart of Little Italy.

The Plant Bath is a historical bath in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was built along with the Champagne Bath in 1924 to try to improve the hygiene and well-being of the city's lower classes. It was named after Frank H. Plant, then mayor of Ottawa. It is located at 930 Somerset Street West at the intersection with Preston Street. It is in the centre of the Italian-Canadian community and near the Chinese-Canadian areas of the city. In 1994 it was designated a heritage property, but three years later the building was closed for safety reasons. The brick pillars holding up the roof had eroded and there was some danger that the building could collapse. Repairs were estimated to cost millions of dollars and the baths remained closed for several years. After 2000, a project to refurbish the baths and build a new recreation centre attached was launched. This project cost eight million dollars, including removing the pool from the old building which now contains community meeting halls. Two new pools, hot tub, steam bath, gyms, and other community structures were added to a large new centre attached. The new Plant Recreation Centre opened in June 2004.

Centretown West is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It lies to the west of Bronson Avenue, east of the O-Train Trillium Line, north of Carling Avenue, and south of Nanny Goat Hill , which is an escarpment to the north of Somerset Street West. To the east lies Centretown, to the north lies Lebreton Flats, to the west lies Hintonburg, and to the south lies Dow's Lake. Much of the neighbourhood makes up what is also called Dalhousie. Centretown West is composed largely of low-density residential commercial properties, and some light industrial uses. Somerset Street West is dominated by Chinese and Vietnamese businesses, and it is considered to be Ottawa's Chinatown. It also retains a large Italian-Canadian population in Little Italy centred on Preston Street, which is also called "Corso Italia". A portion of Gladstone Avenue is also called "Via Marconi", after the Italian inventor who completed some of his work in Canada. Its population in 2011 was 10,693.

Dow's Lake (formerly known as Carling) is an O-Train station on the Trillium Line, one block west of the intersection of Carling Avenue and Preston Street in Ottawa, Ontario. It is near Dow's Lake the western terminal of the Rideau Canal skating rink (in winters only) and a key site during the Canadian Tulip Festival in May. The station is also near government offices at the area of Carling Avenue and Booth Street. South of Carling, the train enters a tunnel to pass under the Rideau Canal. The station was originally named for nearby Carling Avenue and Sir John Carling.

The Dominican University College (DUC; French: Collège universitaire dominicain) is a bilingual university located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Since 2012, Dominican University College has been an affiliated college of Carleton University.Founded in 1900 and granted a civil university charter in 1967, Dominican University College is modelled on the houses of studies of the Order of Preachers and was originally the centre of graduate studies for Canadian Dominicans. Today, Dominican offers civil and pontifical bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in philosophy and theology.

The Claridge Icon is a 45-storey condominium tower under construction in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the intersection of Carling Avenue and Preston Street in Little Italy. When the structure topped out in 2019, it became the tallest building in Ottawa since 1971 and the tallest in Ottawa-Gatineau since 1978. The building was designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects and built by Claridge Homes. It has suffered lengthy delays. When first announced in 2012, Claridge aimed for opening in late 2016. Once construction had begun in 2015, it was planned to be ready for occupancy in 2018.Early during construction in March 2016, a worker was struck and killed by a 12-metre (39 ft) chunk of ice that fell from the side of the construction pit. This resulted in a year-long delay and charges against the developer and main contractor (which were fined $325,000 each in May 2019). Construction work was halted again in March 2018 when a worker fell 3 metres (10 ft) from a platform and suffered a head injury.

Devonshire Community Public School is an elementary school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). Located at 100 Breezehill Avenue North, the school provides single-track Early French Immersion (EFI) programming for the surrounding Hintonburg, Mechanicsville, Centretown, Lebreton Flats and Civic Hospital neighbourhoods. Their mission is to provide each child with the opportunity to achieve his or her potential and become fluent in a second language.

Nanny Goat Hill is a hill located on the west side of Downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The hill is characterized by an escarpment that forms the north-western side of the hill, overlooking LeBreton Flats. The escarpment runs roughly from the corner of Booth and Spruce Streets in the west to the corner of Bronson Avenue and Slater Street in the north. The highest point on the hill is 81m above sea level, at the corner of Primrose Avenue and Arthur Street, close to Dominican University College which overlooks the escarpment. Much of Ottawa's Chinatown is located on the south side of the hill. Its business association's former name, "Somerset Heights" was an allusion to the hill. The name "Nanny Goat" is said to have begun to be applied as a nickname for the hill in the 19th Century, as its escarpment was so steep that only nanny goats could climb it. Another origin story cites that it was named after goats that pastured there.The hill's steep limestone escarpment has been cited as a reason why Downtown Ottawa was spared from the 1900 Hull–Ottawa fire, which damaged more of the city to its west.

Vimy House was a warehouse in the Centretown West neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that was used to store the collections of the Canadian War Museum from 1983 to 2004. The building, originally known as Champagne Garage was built to house the streetcars of the Ottawa Electric Railway. After the railway's closure in 1959, the Ottawa Transportation Commission (and later the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission) used the warehouse for storing their buses up until 1979. The building was later acquired by the Canadian War Museum to be used as a storage facility for its collections when its Sussex Drive facility ran out of space. The building, later renamed Vimy House, became filled with a vast array of aged military paraphernalia including the world's largest collection of Canadian war art. While items from the Vimy House collection would occasionally be put on display at the museum itself, the public could also visit Vimy House on special open house days and tour its collection. The last open house was held on September 6, 2003. In 2004, the collections at Vimy House were moved into the new Canadian War Museum building at LeBreton Flats. The building was sold and renovated and is now a self storage facility.

Ottawa's Chinatown is located along Somerset Street west of downtown Ottawa. It runs from Bay Street in the east to Preston Street in the west (according to the Chinatown BIA). Signs for Chinatown continue along Somerset until Preston Street, and Chinese/Asian restaurants can be found even farther west. The BIA was designated in 1989 and was named Somerset Heights until it was renamed Chinatown in 2005. While officially designated "Chinatown," the area is home to businesses from many Asian cultures, such as Vietnamese, Korean and Thai. Restaurants specializing in Phở and dim sum are quite common. The Ottawa Chinatown has on one hand an urban character as it is not a cluster of strip malls, but on the other hand, it is focused on one commercial street, surrounded exclusively by residential areas. A traditional Paifang archway has been built upon the entrance to the western section of Chinatown over Somerset Street, west of Bronson Avenue. It was unveiled in the early Fall of 2010.
