The Reykjavik Maritime Museum (Icelandic: Sjóminjasafnið í Reykjavík [ˈsjouːˌmɪnjaˌsapnɪð i ˈreiːcaˌviːk]), formerly Víkin Maritime Museum, is a maritime museum located by the old harbour in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík and run by Reykjavik City. The museum was established in 2005, and it is now one of five sites belonging to Reykjavik City Museum. There are seven exhibitions at the museum displaying Icelandic maritime history from the early settlements to the late 20th century. An important part of the museum is the Coast Guard and rescue vessel Óðinn (pronounced Othinn). In 2008, the ship was transformed into a museum exhibit about the cod wars in the 1950s and 1970s. The ship also tells about its own history. The museum focuses on the history of fishing in Iceland but also displays temporary exhibitions related to the sea.

ICGV Óðinn is a decommissioned offshore patrol vessel formerly operated by the Icelandic Coast Guard. She is the oldest ship in the coastguard's fleet, and it is believed that her Burmeister & Wain engines are the only such engines that are still serviceable in the world today. Since her withdrawal from active duty, she has served as a floating exhibit at the Reykjavík Maritime Museum in Reykjavík Harbour. The ship is still maintained, and operative as of June 2022.

The Landakot School (Icelandic: Landakotsskóli), established in 1896, is Iceland's oldest and longest-running private school, and one of the oldest running schools in Iceland of any type. Students attending the school range in age from 5–16 years old; in Iceland this is K-10th grade. Located in central Reykjavík, Landakotsskóli is an independent, non-denominational day school, There are currently around 200 students in the school. The school admits students from all nationalities.

Vesturbær (Icelandic pronunciation: ​[ˈvɛstʏrˌpaiːr̥]) is a district in Reykjavík in Iceland, comprising eight neighbourhoods west of the city center: Gamli Vesturbær [ˈkamlɪ ˈvɛstʏrˌpaiːr̥], Bráðræðisholt [ˈprauðˌraiːðɪsˌhɔl̥t], Grandahverfi [ˈkrantaˌkʰvɛrvɪ], Hagahverfi [ˈhaːɣaˌkʰvɛrvɪ], Melar [ˈmɛːlar̥], Skjól [ˈscouːl̥], Grímsstaðaholt [ˈkrimsˌstaːðaˌhɔl̥t], Skildinganes [ˈscɪltiŋkaˌnɛːs] and Litli Skerjafjörður [ˈlɪhtlɪ ˌscɛrjaˌfjœrðʏr̥].

Landakotskirkja (Landakot's Church), formally Basilika Krists konungs (The Basilica of Christ the King), is the cathedral of the Catholic Church in Iceland. Often referred to as Kristskirkja (Christ's Church), Landakotskirkja is located in the western part of Reykjavík, Iceland's capital city.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Reykjavík is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church which covers the whole of the country of Iceland, and numbered 11,454 Catholics on January 1, 2014. It reports directly to the Holy See of Rome.

Volcano House is a geology exhibition in Reykjavík, Iceland, located at Tryggvagata 11. The exhibition gives a brief overview of Iceland's geological history and volcanic systems. Every hour the Volcano House shows two documentaries, one about the volcanic eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 and one about the volcanic eruption in the Westman Islands in 1973. The mission of Volcano House is to give visitors a glimpse of the reality of living in Iceland, where volcanoes and earthquakes are a part of daily life.Admission to the geology exhibition is free, but the documentary cinema is requires paid tickets.

Reykjavík Museum of Photography (Icelandic: Ljósmyndasafn Reykjavíkur [ˈljouːsˌmɪntaˌsapn ˈreiːcaˌviːkʏr̥]), in Reykjavík, Iceland, preserves about five million photographs by professional and amateur photographers, from around 1870 to the present century. The collection includes studio portraits, and industrial, advertising, press, landscape and family photographs.

Reykjavík Municipal Archives (Icelandic: Borgarskjalasafn Reykjavíkur [ˈpɔrkarˌscaːlaˌsapn ˈreiːcaˌviːkʏr̥]) is an independent institution of Reykjavík municipality, the most populous municipality and capital of Iceland. The Reykjavík Municipal Archives collects, records and preserves various records pertaining the operation and history of both public institutions as well as private enterprises and individuals related to Reykjavík.The Reykjavík Municipal Archives contain the personal records collections of former Icelandic prime ministers Ólafur Thors and Bjarni Benediktsson which are to a large extent accessible online. The objective of The Reykjavík Municipal Archives is to supervise on, and survey, records management at various city institutions: offices, schools, agencies, etc., ensure the safe preservation of old records and maintain proper indexing and storage of current records. The National Archives of Iceland supervises Reykjavík Municipal Archives with regard to policy.

The Settlement Exhibition Reykjavík 871±2 is an exhibition on the settlement of Reykjavík, Iceland, created by the Reykjavik City Museum. The exhibition is based on the archaeological excavation of the ruin of one of the first houses in Iceland and findings from other excavations in the city centre. The exhibition is located in 101 Reykjavík, on Aðalstræti 16, on the corner of Aðalstræti and Suðurgata. The focus of the exhibition is the remains of a hall from the Settlement Age which was excavated in 2001. The hall was inhabited from c. 930–1000. North of the hall are two pieces of turf, remnants of a wall which was clearly built before 871±2, hence the name of the exhibition. Such precise data dating is possible because a major volcanic eruption from the Torfajökull area spread tephra across the region and this can be dated via glacial ice in Greenland. The hall is among the oldest human-made structures so far found in Iceland. Also on display are objects from the Viking Age found in central Reykjavík and the island of Viðey. The exhibition is held by the City of Reykjavík and run by the Reykjavík City Museum.

Galleri Sudurgata 7 was a conceptual and experimental art gallery active in Reykjavík, Iceland in the 1970s and 1980s. The gallery closely collaborated with Fluxus artists including Eric Andersen, Robert Filliou, Mail artists like Robin Crozier and Endre TÓT and other Conceptual artists such as Dick Higgins, Maurizio Nannucci, Hreinn Fridfinnsson, Dieter Roth, Ruri, Peter Schmidt and Jacek Tylicki.

The Icelandic Ministry of Communications (Icelandic: Samgönguráðuneytið) was a cabinet-level ministry responsible for transport by land, sea and air, as well as telecommunications and postal services. Since September 2010, the minister had been Ögmundur Jónasson of the Left-Green Movement. Various organisational changes has taken effect in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Municipal Affairs. A number of projects have been transferred to the Ministry, which has expanded its staff by 8 employees to a total of 36. The work of the Ministry covered i.a. the preparation of drafts of legislative proposals for parliamentary purposes, drafting of regulations, issue of work permits and professional licences, publication of reports and information dissemination. International co-operation is also an important feature of Ministry operations. Under the auspices of the Ministry were: The Public Road Administration (Vegagerðin), the Road Accident Analysis Group, the Icelandic Maritime Administration, the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration, Marine Accident Investigation Board, Aircraft Accident Investigation Board, the Post and Telecom Administration, Equalization Fund, and Keflavik Airport Ltd. The Ministry was divided into four departments: The Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs The Department of Communications The Department of Municipalities and Equalization Fund The Department of TransportationIn 2011, the Ministry was merged with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights to form the Ministry of Interior.
