Hervantajärvi (district)

Hervantajärvi is a lake in Pirkanmaa, Finland, located in the between of Tampere's Hervantajärvi district and Lempäälä's Sääksjärvi district, which belongs to the Moisionjoki catchment area of the Vanajavesi–Pyhäjärvi area in the Kokemäki River watershed. Lake Hervantajärvi is part of the catchment area of Lake Höytämönjärvi.Hervantajärvi belongs to the small and medium-sized low-humic lakes. Its water is clear, but runoff from the marshes on the east and south sides of the lake brings humus to the lake. In the 1980s, Hervantajärvi was considered a lake at risk of acidification. Then the acidity of the water regularly went below six. Today, as the acid load has decreased, the acidity value of the water has remained consistently above 6,4 and the buffering capacity of the water has increased to avoid. The water quality of Hervantajärvi is between good and satisfactory class. The lake is still sensitive to acidification, and especially in winter the accompanying load of runoff consumes the lake's oxygen resources. Algae blooms are also occasionally found on the lake.On the 1953 basic map, there were two small farms on the south shore of the lake. A road led to them from Messukylä in the north. Already at that time, more than 20 holiday homes had been marked on the beaches. On the map of 1975, the cottage village of Majaranta was marked on the north-western basin. Other cottages also appeared on the shores of the lake. The road to the lake improved considerably when construction began on Hervanta.

Mikontalo is a large student housing complex in Hervanta, Tampere, Finland. Its exact address is Insinöörinkatu 60, 33720 Tampere, Finland. With affordable rents, easy availability, and location near the Hervanta campus of Tampere University, it is a popular dwelling for first year students and exchange students. Mikontalo was built during the period 1978–1980. Representing brutalism, it consists of 4 blocks with 12 floors where 767 dwellings are situated. Mikontalo offers for its inhabitants saunas (two per building), a free gym, public lounge with a TV-set, Nintendo Wii, Soundsystem, board games, coffee machine and microwave; laundry room (5 washing and 2 drying machines), cable TV, and connection to the Internet.The building went through major renovations from Summer 2007 until Summer 2009. During the renovation juliet balconies were added to some of the apartments. Also the façade panels were painted with bluish grey color, replacing red, orange and yellow colors.

Hermia is a science park near Tampere University of Technology (TUT). Hermia is located in Hervanta, a suburb of Tampere, Finland. Hermia is also acting as a technology centre for its region. Hermia offers office space and facilities for both small technology startups and larger companies. It consists of 100,000 m2 of office space and is home to 150 companies and research organizations, for example to many research and development units of the cell phone manufacturer Nokia. Products developed in the offices of Hermia have included the first Nokia Communicator mobile phone, as well as Nokia's first camera-phone. The site is also home to one of the offices of Nokia Research Center, where among other activities the EFR and WB-AMR codecs were developed.

Hervanta is a large suburb, or satellite city, of Tampere in Finland, located next to Hallila some 10 km south of the city centre. Hervanta currently covers an area of 13.8 km² and is continuing to grow. Home to a population of over 26,000, Hervanta is best known for its prefabricated blocks of flats. The total number of apartments is about 11,000. Nearly a fifth of the inhabitants (some 4,500 people) are students, many of them enrolled at the Tampere University of Technology (TUT) or the Police College. The largest student housing complex is Mikontalo, in fact nearly 3% of people in Hervanta reside there. Approximately 10% of Hervanta's population is composed of foreigners from 75 different nationalities. Hervanta was known as a notorious neighborhood for a long time, but its reputation has improved considerably over time. It was selected as Finland's top suburb in a survey conducted by the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper and published on 17 August 2003. The complex of commercial buildings in the town center of Hervanta was designed by the Finnish architect Reima Pietilä.

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) (Finnish: Tampereen teknillinen yliopisto (TTY)) was Finland's second-largest university in engineering sciences. The university was located in Hervanta, a suburb of Tampere. It was merged with the University of Tampere to create the new Tampere University on 1 January 2019. The university's statutory duty was to pursue research and give the highest education in its field. The research, conducted by some 1,800 staff and faculty members, mostly focused on applied science and often has close ties to many different companies (such as Nokia). Located next to the university campus is a Technology Centre Hermia, including a large Nokia research facility. TUT was one of the only two Finnish universities which operate as foundation. The yearly budget of the university was some 147 million euros. Close to 50% of its budget was external funding. According to Times Higher Education, it ranked 11th in the world, and 4th in Europe, for industry collaboration.

DUO (originally Hervantakeskus) is a shopping center located in Hervanta, Tampere, Finland. Its original part was designed by the architects Raili and Reima Pietilä, and was completed in the autumn of 1979. The duo has three large grocery stores: Lidl, S-market and K-Supermarket. In addition, there are Alko and Tokmanni as well as restaurants, specialty shops and other commercial services. There is an underground parking garage on the ground floor. There is a total of 11,700 square meters of retail space for rent in the shopping center.The shopping center is part of the central axis of Hervanta designed by Pietilä, which is a nationally significant entity of public buildings. It was once intended to improve Hervanta's concrete-like appearance. The old part of the shopping center, designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä, has features that are characteristic of the architecture and Art Nouveau style of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is a kind of mix of a European market hall, a train station and a winter garden. The fountain structure and the large windows, in turn, are elements that point to the era of large European department stores.In 2007, an extension was completed for the shopping center, which was designed by Arkkitehtitoimisto Eero Lahti Oy. It doubled the space of the center. The opening of the new section was held in April, and the renovation of the old section was completed towards the end of the year. The business center was renamed DUO, which indicates that the building consists of two parts, the new and the old side. In 2019, the real estate investment company Citycon sold its holdings in the shopping center to the real estate investment company NREP.

The Police University College (Finnish: Poliisiammattikorkeakoulu (Polamk), Swedish: Polisyrkeshögskolan) is a university of applied sciences in Tampere, Finland providing police academy training and research under the Ministry of the Interior for the Police of Finland and other Finnish law enforcement units.

Suolijärvi is a small lake in Tampere, Finland. It is situated west of the suburb Hervanta. It has a small beach where people can sunbathe or swim during the summer. There are also two trails which bound the lake. The name derives from Finnish suoli (intestine) and järvi (lake). This is probably due to the curved shape of the lake. Suolijärvi is also a village near Puolanka in the Northern Finland east of Oulu.

Hallila is a suburb in Tampere, Finland. Hallila is located between Korkinmäki and Hervanta near Highway 9. Approximately 4,000 people live in Hallila. In Hallila there is a grocery store, a pizzeria and a pub. Services provided by the city or the church include an elementary school (grades 1 - 4), a kindergarten, and a church. Hallila was built mostly during the 1990s. Tampere light rail connects Hallila to Hervanta and the city centre. Bus line 13 operates through Hallila to Hervanta, Hatanpää and the centre of Tampere.

Vuores (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈʋuo̞̯re̞s̠]) is an area located on the border of Tampere and Lempäälä in the Pirkanmaa region, Finland. Each municipality is building in its own area, but a partial master plan has been drawn up in co-operation. On the Tampere side, construction began in 2010. The area is diverse in terms of terrain and nature, and there are numerous lakes. In the 2019 agglomeration delimitation, Vuores formed its own urban area with an area of 3,03 km2. The urban area had 5,355 inhabitants and was the second most densely populated urban area in Finland with a population density of 1,767 inhabitants/km2. The district has been designed on the basis of eco-efficiency in cooperation with the City of Tampere's ECO2 program. For example, the draft town plan for Koukkuranta has been assessed with a special eco-efficiency tool developed by VTT. Tampere participates in the further development of the tool. There are ongoing development projects in Vuores to promote households’ access to renewable energy, such as wind and solar power. There is a waste pipe collection system on Vuores. Vuores' traffic planning is also based on efficient public transport; it is handled by buses, although the design also provided for the implementation of the tramway. According to the regional master plan of the Tampere light rail, the tramway could be implemented in Vuores in the 2030s.According to a press release issued by the City of Tampere in October 2016, about 11,000 inhabitants will be coming to Vuores by 2025. A housing fair was held in the area in 2012.

Turtola (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈturtolɑ]) is a district in Tampere, Finland. It is located in the southeastern part of the city near the Tampere Ring Road, about five kilometers from the city center. Its neighboring parts of the city are Muotiala, Aakkula, Messukylä, Viiala and Korkinmäki. The Hervanta Highway runs through Turtola. One of Tampere's hypermarket centers is located in Turtola.Turtola, mentioned in the 1540 land register, was one of the houses of Messukylä – Messukylä's parish book village, which originally belonged to the parish of the Greater Pirkkala. However, a document dating back to 1465 mentions Olaff Twrdo as a representative of the Messukylä division. There is no complete certainty about the origin of the name Turto, but according to Professor Viljo Nissilä, the name Turto can be combined with the verb turtu and the adjective turta. Professor K. V. Kaukovalta also associates the Finnish adjective turta with the meaning 'heavy-hearted and serious'. The village name Tursola in Kangasala and Sahalahti may have the same root. The name Turto is also associated in some sources with the Swedish male given name Tord. Turtola became a rustholl in the 18th century and was divided into two parts, Turtola and Turtos, in 1773. The municipality of Messukylä was annexed to the city of Tampere at the beginning of 1947 and the first town plan of the Turtola district was approved in 1963.

Kaukajärvi is a district in Tampere, Finland. It is located between the Highway 9 (E63) and the three-kilometer-long Lake Kaukajärvi, where district gets its name.
