Design Museum (Finnish: Designmuseo, Swedish: Designmuseet) is a museum in Helsinki devoted to the exhibition of both Finnish and foreign design, including industrial design, fashion, and graphic design. The building is situated in Kaartinkaupunki, on Korkeavuorenkatu Street, and is owned by the Republic of Finland through Senate Properties. The building was completed in 1895 and originally built as a school building for the Swedish school Läroverket för gossar och flickor.The museum, which is 140 years old (2013) and one of the oldest in the world – was first founded in 1873 but has operated in its present premises, a former school, designed by architect Gustaf Nyström in 1894 in the neo-Gothic style, since 1978. In 2002, the museum changed its name from Taideteollisuusmuseo to Designmuseo ("Design Museum") because the original name was too long and complicated. The museum also has a cafe and shop. Situated on the same city block is the Museum of Finnish Architecture. The museum includes a permanent exhibition devoted to the history of Finnish design from 1870 to the present day, as well as space for changing exhibitions. The museum's permanent collection consists of over 75,000 objects, 40,000 drawings and 100,000 drawings. Design Museum arranges also international touring exhibitions and publishes books and exhibition catalogues. From museum's home page, there is a free access to several web exhibitions on Finnish design, for example about the production of Arabia Factory, Marimekko and designers Kaj Franck and Oiva Toikka. Latest web exhibition is about 1950–60s design – an iconic golden era of Finnish Design.

Korkeavuorenkatu (Swedish: Högbergsgatan; literal translation, 'street of the high mountain') is a street in Helsinki, Finland. It runs north–south from Etelä-Esplanadi to the junction with Vuorimiehenkatu, where it becomes Kapteeninkatu. Its total length is approximately 860m (2,627 ft). The street is quite hilly, with two peaks, one at Erottaja Fire Station, and the other near the junction with Tarkk'ampujankatu. The section of the street from Etelä-Esplanadi to Yrjönkatu and Punanotkonkatu belongs to the Kaartinkaupunki district, and the rest to Ullanlinna. The houses are numbered from south to north, with odd numbers on the right and even on the left, facing north.

The Museum of Finnish Architecture (Finnish: Suomen arkkitehtuurimuseo, Swedish: Finlands arkitekturmuseum) is an architectural museum in Helsinki, Finland. Established in 1956, it is the second oldest museum of its kind (after Moscow) devoted specifically to architecture. The museum was founded on the basis of the photographic collection of the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA), which was established in 1949. The museum is on Kasarmikatu street in Ullanlinna, housed in a neo-classical building, designed by architect Magnus Schjerfbeck and completed in 1899. The building was originally in the use of a scientific society and the University of Helsinki. The museum took over use of the building in 1981, before which it had been housed in a former wooden pavilion in Kaivopuisto Park. Occupying the same city block as the Museum of architecture is the Design Museum. In 1984 an architectural competition was arranged for a new building to be built in the gap between the two buildings, this linking them together as a single institution. The competition was won by architects Helin and Siitonen, but the project was abandoned soon afterwards, due to logistics and problems of finance. The building is currently owned by the State of Finland through Senate Properties. The museum has large collections of drawings, photographs and architectural scale models. It also has its own library and bookstore. The museum organises exhibitions on both Finnish and foreign architecture as well as exhibitions on Finnish architecture for touring abroad. It also publishes its own books. Although independent of SAFA and its journal The Finnish Architectural Review (ARK), the museum is seen, along with these, as the key influence in continuously promoting modern architecture in Finland. This policy has been promoted vigorously abroad and sponsored by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of education.

The Helsinki Burlesque Festival was an annual burlesque festival held in Helsinki, Finland, in late winter every year. The festival was started in 2008 by the Hulapirates Team (Bettie Blackheart, Frank Doggenstein and Kiki Hawaiji). Since 2010, the festival was produced by Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein from the Helsinki Burlesque organization. The final festival was held in 2017. The festival lasted approximately one week, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday the following week, although not all days had events. The main event was held on Saturday on the second week, and consisted mainly of performances by various burlesque artists. Gloria is a cultural arena which has been operating regularly since 1999 and is located in Helsinki at Pieni Roobertinkatu 12–14. The events that have been organized have mostly been focused on music events; however, there have been other events as well such as theater, dance, film, art exhibitions, and outdoor events. From the very beginning, the principle of Gloria has been to create new cultural productions by producing leisure activities together with youth's own operational and cultural groups. In 15 years Gloria has become a unique arena thanks to all the thousands of performers and events. There have been over 50 000 performers, over 3000 events, and well over 700 000 visitors.

St. John's Church (Finnish: Johanneksenkirkko, Swedish: Johanneskyrkan) in Helsinki, Finland is a Lutheran church designed by the Swedish architect Adolf Melander in the Gothic Revival style. It is the largest stone church in Finland by seating capacity.

The Helsinki Surgical Hospital (Finnish: Kirurginen sairaala, Swedish: Kirurgiska sjukhuset), often referred to as Kirurgi (Swedish: Kirurgen) or simply Kirra, is a hospital located in Helsinki, Finland, in the district of Ullanlinna along the street Kasarmikatu near the Tähtitorninmäki park. The hospital was built in 1888 and represents neoclassical architecture typical of the late 19th century. The hospital is part of the Helsinki University Central Hospital. Because of a great demand for a new hospital, the city of Helsinki donated the lot for construction of the hospital free of charge. The first designs for a new hospital were made by Hampus Dalström in the middle 1870s. However, the doctors were not satisfied with them, so the Senate of Finland held an architectural contest in 1877, which was won by the Swiss Sigismund Rangier. The designs of Ludwig Bohnstedt and Ernst Jacobsson were also accepted. The construction board did not think any of the designs was fit for construction on its own, so the board started combining elements from various designs led by Hampus Dalström and Frans Sjöström. After Sjöström's death, Helge Rancken took over from him, and the final designs in Sjöström's name were finished in 1885. Construction of the hospital started in 1886 and was completed in 1888.The hospital has later been expanded with additional buildings, for example an emergency duty department built in 1973, designed by Eija and Olli Saijonmaa. It was equipped with a helicopter landing pad.Emergency duty activity in the hospital stopped in 1994 and the helicopter landing pad was dismantled during renovation in 2010. Emergency duty activity in the hospital was reinstarted in 2015, when the policlinic for ear, nose and throat diseases moved there from the Helsinki Eye and Ear Hospital. Currently the hospital hosts the Ear Clinic except for the Phoniatrics Clinic, which remains at the Helsinki Eye and Ear Hospital in the Meilahti Hospital. The name Kirurgi (Swedish: Kirurgen) is also used for the terminus of the Helsinki tram line 10 located near the hospital. In April 2020 HUCS concentrated treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic to the Surgical Hospital and opened a new inpatient wing for COVID-19 patients. The hospital also hosted an intensive care unit for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The COVID-19 care department was closed down in May 2021 as the number of patients decreased. Discussion about reopening the COVID-19 care departments started in December 2021 as the number of patients started increasing again.

Nylands Nation (NN) is one of the 15 student nations at the University of Helsinki, Finland's oldest, Swedish-speaking and established in 1643 at The Royal Academy of Turku. In 1828, the Academy moved to Helsinki taking the name "University" and Nylands Nation moved there along with the other Nations. Since 1904 the house of Nylands Nation, a building designed by Karl HÃ¥rd af Segerstad, has stood at Kasarmikatu 40.

Chez Dominique was a restaurant in Helsinki, Finland. The chef and owner was Hans Välimäki. The restaurant was located at Rikhardinkatu 4, and seated 50 people. The restaurant closed in October 2013.

Normal Lyceum of Helsinki (In Finnish; Helsingin normaalilyseo) is a school in Helsinki, Finland, consisting of the upper part of primary school (peruskoulun yläaste, grades 7 to 9) and secondary school (lukio). Unlike most other schools in Helsinki, the school is not owned by the city of Helsinki, but is instead part of the University of Helsinki, which itself is owned directly by the state of Finland. The school is considered one of the most prestigious. It is the second hardest to get into, in the entire country, tied with Ressun Lukio. The most difficult one is Helsingin yliopiston Viikin normaalikoulu, which is also owned by the University of Helsinki. The established nickname for the school is Norssi, which also means a student of the school. Former students who have graduated from the school are called vanha Norssi (Finnish for "old Norssi"). The school has a constant, good-natured rivalry with Ressun lukio (Ressu Upper Secondary School, previously known as "Helsingin reaalilyseo") and Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteiskoulu which are considered even more prestigious than the Normal Lyceum by some.

The Rikhardinkatu library is a public library in Kaartinkaupunki, Helsinki, Finland.

Kaartinkaupunki (Swedish: Gardesstaden) is a neighbourhood in the southern part of Helsinki, Finland. Kaartinkaupunki consists of the area between the Esplanadi park and the Tähtitornin vuori park. Its area was first confirmed in 1812, but the neighbourhood was only named in 1959. It is neighbourhood number 3 in Helsinki, belonging to the Ullanlinna district and to the Southern main district. Kaartinkaupunki was named after the old Russian army barracks located near Kasarmitori. The oldest part of the barracks was built in 1822. It was originally built as a residence for the Helsinki training battalion, which later became the Guard of Finland. The neighbourhood has a land area of 0.33 square kilometres (0.13 sq mi). In 2005, it had a population of 881, and in late 2003, it had 11,001 jobs. Kaartinkaupunki includes the Esplanadi park, the Helsinki Market Square, and the streets of Pohjois- and Etelä-Esplanadi. It does not include any of the buildings on Pohjoisesplanadi, because they belong to Kruununhaka or Kluuvi. One of the main streets in the area is Korkeavuorenkatu.
