Kutno County

The Battle of the Bzura (or the Battle of Kutno) was the largest battle of the German invasion of Poland and was fought from 9 to 19 September 1939. It was a Polish counter-attack against the Germans. The battle took place west of Warsaw, near the Bzura River. It began as a Polish counter-offensive and met some initial success, but it faltered as the Germans ultimately outflanked the Polish forces with a concentrated counter-attack, which significantly weakened the Polish forces and resulted in the destruction of the Poznań and Pomorze Armies. The conclusion of the battle marked the completion of the German occupation of Western Poland. The battle has been described as "the bloodiest and most bitter battle of the entire Polish campaign". Winston Churchill called the battle an "ever-glorious struggle".

Kutno [ˈkutnɔ] is a city in central Poland, with 42,704 inhabitants (2021) and an area of 33.6 km2 (13.0 sq mi). It is the capital of Kutno County in the Łódź Voivodeship. Founded in the medieval period, Kutno was a local center of crafts and trade, owing its growth to its location on the Royal Route connecting Warsaw with Poznań and Dresden in the 18th century, and the railway from Warsaw to Toruń and Bydgoszcz since the 19th century. During the invasion of Poland in 1939, Polish armies under General Tadeusz Kutrzeba conducted an offensive in and around Kutno, that was later named the Battle of the Bzura. Based on its central location and the intersection of multiple rail lines, Kutno is an important railroad junction in Poland. Two main lines cross there (Łódź – Toruń and Warsaw – Poznań – Berlin). Another connection also starts in Kutno, which connects the town to Płock. Kutno is the location of the European Little League Baseball Center and hosts the annual Kutno Rose Festival.

Gmina Kutno is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Kutno County, Łódź Voivodeship, in central Poland. Its seat is the town of Kutno, although the town is not part of the territory of the gmina. The gmina covers an area of 122.33 square kilometres (47.2 sq mi), and as of 2006 had a population of 8,357.

Akademia Nauk Stosowanych Gospodarki Krajowej w Kutnie, abbreviated - ANSGK w Kutnie) - higher education institution based in Kutno on the street Lelewel 7, almost in the center. It offers in-person and distance education, postgraduate education and a wide range of courses. The university has its own houses, dormitories, social facilities and sports grounds. It also has a library and its own publishing house - "Publishing ANSGK" There are international students’ programs, training, and excursions. The high school has its own hostels, sportive infrastructure, and libraries. Students have training in Poland and abroad.

Kutno railway station is a railway station in Kutno, in the Łódź Voivodeship, Poland. The station opened in 1861 and is located on the Warsaw–Kunowice railway, Łódź–Kutno railway, Kutno–Piła railway and Kutno–Brodnica railway. The train services are operated by PKP, Koleje Mazowieckie, Koleje Wielkopolskie, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna and Polregio. The station is one of the most important stations in the Łódź Voivodeship. Beyond the station, in the direction of Poznań there is a goods station called Kutno Azory.
