Bacons is an unincorporated community located four miles north of the Maryland state line in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. Also known as Bacon Switch, the site was once a thriving railroad switch point in the late 19th century. The site between Delmar and Laurel, Delaware had a number of small stores. It was named after the Bacon family, who started a farm there, before expanding into the sawmill and basket making business. Parents Thomas and Amelia Bacon, had five sons: Frank, Albert, Thomas, William and Harry. The son Thomas designed a collapsible egg carrier in 1884 that was granted a US Patent, number 299715 [1]. The egg carrier was used to ship eggs to Philadelphia, where it would be collapsed and returned to the farmer. Thomas Bacon Jr. died in 1939.

Little Creek Hundred is one of two Delaware hundreds of the name, the other being Little Creek Hundred in Kent County.

Laurel Airport (FAA LID: N06) is a public-use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) southwest of the central business district of Laurel, a city in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is privately owned by Dest Inc. It is currently referred to as Laurel Airport by both the Federal Aviation Administration and Delaware Department of Transportation. However, it had been renamed Western Sussex Airport-Booth Field by a prior owner known as Aerospace House Inc.

The Collins Potato House is located near Laurel, Delaware, one of the last surviving examples of its building type. The southern part of Delaware saw a sweet potato boom from 1900 until blight struck in the 1940s. In order to store the crops, potato houses were built. The Collins house was the first to be built in the Little Creek Hundred region and dates to the late 19th century. Measuring 19 feet (5.8 m) by 30 feet (9.1 m), the two-story balloon-frame structure consists of a central aisle flanked by bins on both levels. There are five bins per side. An interior stair provides access to the first floor. Freeze protection was provided by a coal stove. Wall construction is in three layers, with interior planking, sheathing and weatherboard siding. The front elevation on the west side features door at the first and second floors, while the rear elevation has a door at the first floor and a window at the second. Small windows are in both gables for ventilation. The Collins Potato House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 15, 1990.

Stanley Potato House is a historic potato house located near Laurel, Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is one of the last surviving examples of its building type. It was built about 1920, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, gable fronted, balloon frame structure on a brick foundation. It measures 17 feet by 23 feet. It retains a number of important elements characteristic of potato house including: minimal fenestration, center aisle floor plan, double siding, and hatched loading doors. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The district includes 701 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, 4 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Laurel. It includes residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings dated from the late-18th century to the 1930s. The residential buildings are mostly frame structures in the "I-house" plan. Most commercial buildings re brick structure and date to the early-20th century. Notable non-residential buildings include the Dashiell Building, Sussex Trust Building, Mellon Bank Building, Laurel Railroad Station (c. 1905), firehouse (1937), the original water company building, more recent town water buildings, U.S. Post Office (1935), Centenary Methodist Church, St. Phillip's Episcopal Church the Methodist Protestant Church, and the I.O.O.F. Meeting Hall. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
