Leadgate is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north-east of Consett. The Roman road Dere Street runs straight through the middle of Leadgate, today this is known as Durham Road and the B6309. The place-name 'Leadgate' is first attested in 1590 and derives from the Old English 'hlidgeat', which means 'swing-gate'.The parish church of St Ives was built in 1865–68. The Roman Catholic church of Our Blessed Lady and St. Joseph lies a little way out of the village at Brooms. It was built 1866-69 by E. W. Pugin and served the Irish migrant community.Leadgate was the home of the workers and staff of the Eden colliery which opened in 1844, and was closed on the 18 July 1980. It was also home to many working for the Consett Iron Company (about 2 miles away) and which closed in the 1980s. Leadgate now stands as a small village with a close-knit community. Plans to regenerate the area have been on the local councils' planning board for some time and improvements are being made. The retail economy of Leadgate is centered on Front Street which until the construction of the Leadgate bypass formed one of the main routes from Newcastle into Consett. Front Street hosts a number of independent businesses as well as a local co-operative. The coast-to-coast cycle route runs through Leadgate and follows the path of the former Stanhope and Tyne railway. The last train ran on the line on 17 March 1984.St Ives is the Parish Church. On 17 August 2020 the Bradley open-cast mine, the last coal mine in England, was closed.

Crook Hall, sited near Lanchester, County Durham, some 8 miles (13 km) north west of the city of Durham, was one of two Roman Catholic seminaries which temporarily replaced the Douai seminary in Douai, France when that college was suppressed soon after the French Revolution. Crook Hall was itself superseded after a few years by Ushaw College.

The housing in the area was built as a suburb of Consett, historically providing housing for people working in the former mining and steel industries. The village has one pub: 'The Traveller's Rest'. An unclassified road passes through the village from the A692 bypassing Consett, linking up with the A691 road between Leadgate and the nearby village of Lanchester. There is a crossroads at the south end of the village, with roads heading north-east to Iveston and south-west to Knitsley. There is a village hall, which was constructed in 1925.

The Principal and Chief Executive is Chris Todd, who took over from Karen Redhead in 2019.The college's inspection report in 1997 summarised its history as: "Derwentside College was established as a tertiary college in 1986 following the decision of Durham Local Education Authority (LEA) to bring together the activities of Consett Technical College and the sixth forms of five local schools".

Medomsley is a village in County Durham, England, about 2 miles (3 km) northeast of the centre of Consett, 1+1⁄2 miles (2 km) south of Hamsterley and 1 mile (2 km) southeast of Ebchester. Medomsley is about 778 feet (237 m) above sea level, atop a hill overlooking the Derwent Valley. The village has views of the Pennines and the surrounding countryside for miles around.

There is a pub (some way outside of the village) called The Old Mill. A telephone box once existed at the end of Hownsgill drive but this was removed many years ago due to lack of use. A railway station existed until 1964 when cutbacks in the railway system dramatically reduced rail services in Britain.
