South Branch Schoolhouse

South Branch is an unincorporated community located within Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The community is named for and is located along the South Branch Raritan River. The South Branch Historic District encompassing the village was listed on the state and national registers of historic places in 1977.

Holland Brook is a tributary of the South Branch Raritan River in Hunterdon and Somerset Counties, New Jersey in the United States. Holland Brook flows through Readington and Branchburg. It is the last tributary of the South Branch Raritan River before it combines with the North Branch Raritan River. The brook is over seven miles in length running from its headwaters near Cushetunk Mountain, a plutonic intrusion of igneous rock surrounding Round Valley Reservoir, to its convergence with the South Branch Raritan River near Studdiford Drive in Branchburg. The brook is ten to twenty feet across most of its length. It changes over 300 feet in elevation from its headwaters to its convergence with the Raritan River. Holland Brook was originally named Holland's Brook for Thomas Holland of Piscataway, who was married to Winifred Pound. Thomas Holland was a descendant of the translator Philemon Holland. Holland was an early property owner along the brook, although he never resided there. The recorded Lenape name for the Brook was Amanmechunk. This word in the Unami dialect meant large creek.

The Andrew Ten Eyck House is a historic farm house located at 671 Old York Road in the township of Branchburg in Somerset County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 6, 2004, for its significance in architecture.

Branchburg is a township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 14,940, an increase of 481 (+3.3%) from the 2010 census count of 14,459, which in turn reflected a decline of 107 (−0.7%) from the 14,566 counted in the 2000 census.While the area of today's Branchburg has a history antedating the American Revolutionary War, the township itself was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 5, 1845, from portions of Bridgewater Township. The township is named for its location at a point where branches of the Raritan River merge.

The Branchburg Township School District is a community public school district serving students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from Branchburg, in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of three schools, had an enrollment of 1,325 students and 152.7 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.7:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.The public secondary school serving Branchburg for ninth through twelfth grades is Somerville High School, which students attend as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Somerville Public Schools. As of the 2020–21 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 1,155 students and 92.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.6:1.

Duke Island Park is a Somerset County Park in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey. The park includes trails, which are part of the Raritan River Greenway and currently connects the southwestern corner of Bridgewater with Raritan center and Hillsborough Township. The park covers 339 acres (137 ha) and is bounded by the Raritan River to the south and by the Raritan Water Power Canal on the other three sides. The park is home to numerous trail, several sports fields, and a bandstand that has free summer concerts. The visitors center is home to the Park Ranger's office, restroom facilities, vending machines and maps and brochures of county facilities.

Flagtown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located within Hillsborough Township, in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

The Huff House and Farmstead is a historic 2-acre (0.81 ha) property located on River Road at the South Branch Raritan River near the Flagtown section of Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. The Huff House was built in 1842 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1976, for its significance in agriculture and politics/government.

The Readington Reformed Church is a historic church located at 124 Readington Road, Readington Village, an unincorporated community located within Readington Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It was known in colonial times as the Dutch Reformed Church of North Branch. It is the oldest Dutch Reformed Church in the county. The current building was built in 1865. The churchyard is known as the Readington Reformed Church Cemetery. The church was added as a contributing property of the Readington Village Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places on June 24, 1991.

The Raritan Water Power Canal in Raritan, New Jersey was a three-mile long water power canal built during the early 1840s to power industries. The canal has been determined to be eligible for the National Register. The canal is included in Duke Island Park, as part of the Somerset County Park System.The canal was originally constructed by the Somerset Water Power Company. This company was incorporated on Feb 28, 1840 but went bankrupt. The Raritan Water Power Company was incorporated on March 24, 1863 and took over the canal, head gates, water power, water rights, and franchises.The Raritan Water Power Canal Historic District was listed on August 27, 2001 with NJHPO ID#3633.

Pleasant Run is a tributary of the South Branch Raritan River in central New Jersey in the United States. Pleasant Run is approximately 7 miles (11 km) in length, running from its headwaters near Cushetunk Mountain, a plutonic intrusion of igneous rock surrounding Round Valley Reservoir, through Readington and Branchburg, to its convergence with the South Branch Raritan River near River Road in Branchburg. Pleasant Run was originally called Campbell's Brook after John Campbell of Piscataway. Campbell in 1685, was granted a strip of land extending west from the South Branch and which surrounded Pleasant Run.

Readington Village is an unincorporated community located within Readington Township in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, that is centered on the converging of Readington Road, Hillcrest Road, Centerville Road and Brookview Road. It is located on Holland Brook, originally named Amanmechunk, which means large creek in the Unami dialect. The area was inhabited by the Raritan prior to the arrival of European settlers. The Native Americans who lived near Readington Village travelled to the coast during the summer for fish and clams. Such a trip is mentioned in an Indian deed transferring lands around Holland Brook to George Willocks, an East and West New Jersey Proprietor. The deed mentions two of the natives, who lived at Readington: Metamisco and Wataminian.
