Antón Martín is a station on Line 1 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in Fare Zone A and has been open to the public since 26 December 1921.

Line 1 of the Madrid Metro is an underground metro line running from Pinar de Chamartín in the north to Valdecarros in the southeast, via Sol. Today it has 33 stations and spans 24 km (14.9 mi) from end to end. The line was the first metro line of the Madrid Metro, and the first metro line built in all of Spain. It originally contained only 8 stops connecting Cuatro Caminos in the north to the city center at Puerta del Sol. Line 1 marks the start of the Madrid Metro with its inauguration on 17 October 1919 and public service beginning 14 days later on 31 October. There have been various extensions to the line since it opened including the most recent northern extension to Pinar de Chamartin on 11 April 2007 and a southern extension on 16 May 2007 to Valdecarros. Line 1 is the second busiest line on the Madrid Metro, behind Line 6, with more than 7.5 million monthly trips.

The Teatro Monumental (Monumental Theatre) is a concert hall in Madrid. The theatre, designed by Teodoro Anasagasti Algan, was built between 1922 and 1923 as a movie theatre (Teatro Cinema Monumental) and later was transformed to house concerts of different genres, from pop to classical, and jazz to folk.The theatre is the concert venue of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra.

The Teatro Variedades was a famous Colosseum in the city of Madrid, Spain, in the 19th century. Erected in 1847, the theater was located at 40 Magdalena Street. It was known once as one of the most entertaining theatres for the not-so-demanding general public. There, the Boufee genre, the political revue and other minor theatrical genres were inventively exploited. The theater was consumed by flames in a fire on 29 January 1888, resulting in its demolition because of its wooden foundations.

The 1977 Atocha massacre was an attack by right-wing extremists in the center of Madrid on January 24, 1977, which saw the assassination of five labor activists from the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) and the workers' federation Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO). The act occurred within the wider context of far-right reaction to Spain's transition to constitutional democracy following the death of dictator Francisco Franco. Intended to provoke a violent left-wing response that would provide legitimacy for a subsequent right-wing counter coup d'état, the massacre had an immediate opposite effect, generating mass popular revulsion of the far-right and accelerating the legalization of the long-banned Communist Party. On the evening of January 24, three men entered a legal support office for workers run by the PCE on Atocha Street in central Madrid, and opened fire on all present. Those killed were labor lawyers Enrique Valdelvira Ibáñez, Luis Javier Benavides Orgaz and Francisco Javier Sauquillo; law student Serafín Holgado de Antonio; and administrative assistant Ángel Rodríguez Leal. Severely wounded in the attack were Miguel Sarabia Gil, Alejandro Ruiz-Huerta Carbonell, Luis Ramos Pardo and Dolores González Ruiz. The perpetrators all had links to neo-fascist organizations in Spain opposed to democracy. Those involved in the massacre and their accomplices were sentenced to a total of 464 years in prison, although these terms were later significantly reduced and a number of the perpetrators escaped custody. Doubts remain as to whether all culpable persons were brought to justice. The events surrounding the massacre are generally considered a crucial turning point in the consolidation of Spain's return to democracy in the late 1970s. Writing on the 40th anniversary of the massacre, journalist Juancho Dumall noted: "It was a terrorist act that marked the future of the country in a way that the murderers would never have suspected and, instead, was the one desired by the victims." Memorialized annually, across Madrid there are 25 streets and squares dedicated to the victims of the Atocha massacre.

The Real Academia de la Historia (RAH, 'Royal Academy of History') is a Spanish institution in Madrid that studies history "ancient and modern, political, civil, ecclesiastical, military, scientific, of letters and arts, that is to say, the different branches of life, of civilisation, and of the culture of the Spanish people". The Academy was established by royal decree of Philip V of Spain on 18 April 1738.

The Palace of the Marquis of Molins (Spanish: Palacio del Marqués de Molins) is a nineteenth-century building in Madrid, Spain. Originally the property of Mariano Roca de Togores y Carrasco, 1st Marquis of Molíns, it now belongs to the state. It was adapted in the 1970s to serve as an annex to the Real Academia de la Historia. The building is protected by a heritage listing, having been declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 2004.

The Palace of Santoña (Spanish: Palacio de Santoña) is a palace located in Madrid, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1995.

The Saint Sebastian Church or Iglesia de San Sebastián is a 16th-century church in central Madrid, Spain. It is located on Atocha street, #39. The name arises from a devotional chapel (ermita) which was found along the route to the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de Atocha, founded in 1541. The first architect around 1550 was Antonio Sillero, who also finished the Chapel of the Sagrado Corazón. This church like that of San Luis conserved for years the rights of asylum for those escaping official persecution. More chapels and enlargements were added by Antonio de la Tijera, Juan de Bulga Valdelastras, and Juan de Obregón between 1595 and 1598. The tower was built in 1612 by Lucas Hernández. During the Spanish Civil War, the church was sacked by Republican forces, before it ended up being almost destroyed during a bombing raid by the Nationalists around November 20, 1936. This caused many of the works to be transferred to other sites. For example, the icon of San Blas was moved to the convent of San Jerónimo el Real). The church was rebuilt in a different orientation by Francisco Íñiguez Almech between 1943 and 1959. In 1969, it was declared a "Bien de Interés Cultural" in the category of monument.

The House-Museum of Lope de Vega (Spanish: Casa-Museo de Lope de Vega) is a writer's house museum in the former home of the "golden age" writer Lope de Vega, located in Madrid, Spain. The sixteenth-century house was bought by the writer in 1610. Today it is conserved by the Real Academia Española, which is the institution responsible for the regulation of the Spanish language. The Academy restored the house and opened it as a museum in 1935, the same year the building was declared a national monument. The building is currently protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural. The Academía owns three of Lope de Vega's manuscripts on display at the museum.
