Hackney Town Hall

The Metropolitan Borough of Hackney was a Metropolitan borough of the County of London from 1900 to 1965. Its area became part of the London Borough of Hackney.

Hackney Museum is a local history museum located in the London Borough of Hackney. Amongst other aspects of the Hackney area, the museum explores the history of immigration.

Hackney Empire is a theatre on Mare Street, in Hackney in the London Borough of Hackney. Originally designed by Frank Matcham it was built in 1901 as a music hall, and expanded in 2001. Described by The Guardian as ‘the most beautiful theatre in London’ it is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

MOTH Club is a live music venue on Valette Street in the London Borough of Hackney.

Hackney Central is a London Overground station on the North London line in Hackney Central, Greater London. It lies between Dalston Kingsland and Homerton and is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station and all trains serving it are operated by National Rail services under the control of the London Rail division of Transport for London. However, there is no standard red National Rail "double arrow" logo signage at the station, instead only the Overground roundel.The station is connected to Hackney Downs by a direct passenger walkway linking the two stations (replacing an earlier such link) that was opened in July 2015. This walkway means passengers do not have to exit on to the street in order to continue their onward journey.

Mare Street is a street in the London Borough of Hackney. It has existed since the 15th century, when it was one of the first roads at the centre of the parish. It was then known as Merestret. The word mere was either the Old English mǣre meaning a boundary — referring to the boundary with the parish of Stepney — or mere, a large pond which was fed by Hackney Brook.

Paper Dress Vintage is a vintage clothes shop and live music venue on Mare Street in the London Borough of Hackney. Started as a seller at vintage fairs, before opening as a traditional vintage clothing store on Curtain Road in Shoreditch in 2007, founder Hannah Turner Voakes and husband Steve Dix began throwing parties in the shop eventually leading to bands regularly performing in the window. It added a bar in 2011 and in 2016 the shop moved to its current location. The current building has two storeys, with a stage on the upper floor. There’s a beer garden through the back and a yoga studio in an adjoining room. In 2019 it was awarded a grant by Arts Council UK's Supporting Grassroots Live Music Fund which was used by the venue to upgrade the sound and lighting.

The Hackney siege was a criminal event that took place in Hackney, in East London, England, for 15 days from 26 December 2002 to 9 January 2003. It ended with the death of the gunman, Eli Hall.

Custard Apple (Annonaceae), Breadfruit (Moraceae) and Soursop (Annonaceae) are three sculptures by Veronica Ryan that stand on Narrow Way, near St Augustine's Tower in Hackney, London. They were commissioned as a memorial to the Windrush generation of British African-Caribbean people who immigrated to the United Kingdom in the wake of World War II. Veronica Ryan’s Custard Apple (Annonaceae), Breadfruit (Moraceae) and Soursop (Annonaceae) is the first permanent public sculpture by a black female artist in the UK. — Create London The works were unveiled 1 October 2021. The three sculptures represent Caribbean fruits and vegetables — custard apple, breadfruit and soursop — in reference to the nearby Ridley Road Market.Ryan said of the work that "Ridley Market here in Hackney remains a vibrant place of early excitement going shopping with my mother, I don’t often get along to the market now, but have been so happy to buy some lovely soursops and custard apples on recent visits" and that "Cultural visibility and representation evident in public spaces is crucial. I am very happy that my sculptures will be part of this recognition".The works were commissioned as part of the Black History Season of Hackney London Borough Council and Create London. They stand near St Augustine's Tower and the Ridley Road Market. They received the 2022 Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture.

St Augustine's Tower stands in St John's Church Gardens, in central Hackney, in the London Borough of Hackney, just off the southern end of the Narrow Way (formerly Church Street). It is all that remains of the early 16th-century parish church of Hackney of St Augustine, which replaced the 13th-century medieval church founded by the Knights of St John. The Tower comprises four stages beneath a restored parapet with diagonal buttressing. A fine working 16th-century turret clock has remained on the third floor of the Tower since at least 1608. The Tower and contents are Grade I listed. The Tower is seen as a symbol for Hackney, and is represented in the coat of arms of the London Borough of Hackney. During the First World War, it appeared on the cap-badge of the 10th (Hackney) Battalions of the London Regiment, together with the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney motto Justitia Turris Nostra, Latin for Justice is our tower.

Hackney was a parish in the historic county of Middlesex. The parish church of St John-at-Hackney was built in 1789, replacing the nearby former 16th-century parish church dedicated to St Augustine (pulled down in 1798). The original tower of that church was retained to hold the bells until the new church could be strengthened; the bells were finally removed to the new St John's in 1854. The Old Town Hall is a municipal building in Mare Street in Hackney, London. The building, which is currently used as a public house, is a Grade II listed building.
