Great Warford

Warford Hall is a country house in the village of Great Warford, Cheshire, England. It was designed by W. Roberts, and built in 1867 for J. C. Rowley. It is a large house in the Italianate style, constructed of red brick and Alderley Edge stone. On its front is a tower porch set on the skew.The house serves as the residence of former footballer Ashley Ward and his wife, Dawn Ward, who appeared on The Real Housewives of Cheshire, a reality television series. The Wards have been seeking to develop the property, and they submitted plans in July 2021 to convert some outbuildings into six dwelling units.

The Chelford rail accident occurred on 22 December 1894 at Chelford railway station. The stationmaster was supervising shunting operations, during which a high-sided wagon was fly-shunted (i.e. run-off) into a siding in strong winds and rapidly fading light. As another six wagons were being run onto an adjoining road, the stationmaster saw the high-sided wagon being blown out of its siding by the wind to meet them. A collision occurred derailing the runaway in such a way that it fouled the main line just as the 16:15 Manchester to Crewe express approached, drawn by two locomotives, LNWR Waterloo Class 2-4-0 No 418 Zygia and Experiment Class No 518 Express. The stationmaster ran towards them waving a red lamp but the drivers thought he was signalling to the shunters and did not slacken speed. Zygia derailed and fell on her side whilst her tender ran up the platform ramp. Express remained upright but the first carriage demolished the front of a signalbox. In all, 14 passengers were killed and 48 injured.The inquiry had little comment to make as this seemed to be a freak accident but advised that, in future, the brakes of all shunted wagons should be immediately pinned down.A contemporary photo supposedly shows the re-railed damaged locomotive Zygia shortly after the accident.

Soss Moss Hall is a former manor house in the parish of Nether Alderley, Cheshire, England. It was built in 1583 for Thomas Wyche. The architectural writers Figueirdo and Treuherz consider that, because of duplication of some of the timbers, it was built in two stages. Between 1835 and 1940 the kitchen of the house was used as Nether Alderley Methodist Chapel. The house was extended in the early 17th century and alterations were made during the 20th century. It is a timber-framed building on a sandstone plinth, with some repairs in brick. The infill is partly with brick, and partly with plaster. It is roofed in Kerridge stone slate, with stone ridges. The house has a H-shaped plan. It has two storeys, the north front having three gables, all of which have black-and-white herringbone decoration. On the left side is a massive stone chimney with three stacks, serving three fireplaces; it contains garderobes. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Chelford is a village and civil parish in Cheshire, England, near to the junction of the A537 and A535 roads six miles (10 km) west of Macclesfield and six miles south-east of Knutsford, and is part of the Tatton constituency. The civil parish includes the hamlet of Astle. It is served by Chelford railway station on the line between Crewe and Manchester. At the 2011 census, Chelford had a population of 1,174.

Chorley is a civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The parish itself contains no large settlement, but there is a small hamlet called Row-of-Trees in the north of the parish. According to the 2001 census, the population of the parish was 399, increasing to 496 at the 2011 Census (called Wilmslow West and Chorley).Until the arrival of the railway, much of the area now known as Alderley Edge was called Chorley. As well as remaining the name of the civil parish, the name Chorley is also retained in the 14th century Chorley Old Hall, to the south-west of Alderley Edge The first written evidence of the settlement, then known as 'Chorlegh', appeared in the 13th century, with the likely derivation coming from ceorl and leah, meaning a peasants' clearing. Although it is not mentioned in the Domesday Book, it is included in a charter of c.1280. In the 13th century and during the Middle Ages, the area comprised estates that had many different owners. From the 15th century, most of these farming estates came under the ownership of the de Trafford family. In 1830 Chorley consisted of only a few cottages, the De Trafford Arms Inn, a toll bar, and a smithy, straggling along the Congleton to Manchester Road. The coming of the railway in 1842 with the construction of the Stockport to Crewe section of the main Manchester and Birmingham Railway changed all this. The Manchester and Birmingham Railway Company built the line through Chorley, offering free season tickets for 20 years to Manchester businessmen who built houses with a rateable value of more than £50 within a mile of the station. This 'season ticket' was in the form of a small silver oval which could be worn on a watch chain. The railway also gave Alderley Edge its current name. As the railway network expanded and travel became easier, the railway company did not want its station called Chorley any more because of the possible confusion with Chorley in Lancashire. So, in 1880 they renamed it Alderley Edge against much opposition, taking the old name for the village and the name of the sandstone escarpment already known as The Edge.

Chelford Manor House stands to the southeast of the village of Chelford, Cheshire, England. It dates from the early 17th century. An extension was made to it in 1671, and more alterations and additions were carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries. The last addition was made for Colonel Dixon of Astle Hall. The house is timber-framed on a stone plinth. The infill is either brick or rendered brick. It is roofed in slate and cement tiles. It is a "complex" building, with parts in two storeys, and other parts in three storeys. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. To the north of the manor house is a former tithe barn. This is also timber-framed with brick infill, and is listed at Grade II.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Knutsford. Its benefice is combined with that of St Peter, Lower Withington.
