Burton upon Trent Infirmary

Burton upon Trent, also known as Burton-on-Trent or simply Burton, is a market town in the borough of East Staffordshire in the county of Staffordshire, England, close to the border with Derbyshire. In 2021, it had a population of 76,270. The demonym for residents of the town is Burtonian. Burton is located 11 miles (18 km) south-west of Derby, 27 miles (43 km) north-west of Leicester, 28 miles (45 km) west-south-west of Nottingham and 20 miles (32 km) south of the southern entrance to the Peak District National Park. Burton is known for its brewing. The town grew up around Burton Abbey. Burton Bridge was also the site of two battles, in 1322, when Edward II defeated the rebel Earl of Lancaster and in 1643 when royalists captured the town during the First English Civil War. William Lord Paget and his descendants were responsible for extending the manor house within the abbey grounds and facilitating the extension of the River Trent Navigation to Burton. Burton grew into a busy market town by the early modern period. The town is served by Burton-on-Trent railway station. The town was also the start and terminus of the now defunct South Staffordshire Line which linked it to Lichfield, Walsall, Dudley and Stourbridge.

Peel Croft was a sports ground in Burton upon Trent in England. It was the home ground of Burton Rugby Football Club and the Burton Swifts and Burton United football clubs, who played in the Football League between 1892 and 1907.

The Ritz Cinema is a former cinema in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England, built in 1935. It closed as a cinema in 1999, and was later a restaurant. From December 2024 it is a nightclub and live venue, The Complex. It is a Grade II listed building.

Coopers Square (originally called Burton Shopping Centre) is an indoor shopping centre located in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It is owned by the Grosvenor Group. The total retail area for the shopping centre is 35,766 m2 (384,980 sq ft). The shopping centre has 800 car parking spaces, with a ground car park as well as a rooftop car park.

The Burton Cooper is a 1977 statue by James Walter Butler currently located in Coopers Square shopping centre, Burton upon Trent. The statue commemorates the close connection of the town to the trade, which was key to Burton's brewing industry. Originally situated outdoors, the statue was relocated inside the centre when it was refurbished in 1994.

St Mary and St Modwen Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. It was built from 1878 to 1879, to designs by John Edgar Young in the Gothic Revival style. It is located on Guild Street in the town centre. It is a Grade II listed building.

The Malt Shovel is a 2001 sculpture by Andrew Hazell that stands on the corner of High Street and New Street in Burton upon Trent in England. It was commissioned by East Staffordshire Borough Council in 1998 and funded by a National Lottery grant. The sculpture is a representation of a shovel used for malting, part of the brewery process that dominated the town's history. The stainless-steel sculpture stands 9 metres (30 ft) tall and has a bottle-shaped opening in the blade through which people can walk. The sculpture was unveiled amid local controversy over its accuracy and site.

Dame Paulet's Almshouses were established by Dame Elizabeth Paulet near the marketplace of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire in 1593 to provide accommodation and support for five elderly, poor women of the town. The almshouse ceased to be used for accommodation in 1871–72, with the women moved into new houses. The structure was afterwards used as a post office and weights and measures office before falling derelict. The remains were demolished in 1974 when Coopers Square shopping precinct was built. A doorway from the 1593 structure survives and is preserved in an external wall of Primark.

Finney's Post is part of an ornate mediaeval oak post, which came from a building at the corner of the Market Place and High Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. For a picture of it, see Legend has it that this post caused an apparently-dead woman (Mrs Albert Finney) to be brought back to life when her coffin crashed into the post.Mrs Finney lived in Clay's Lane, Stapenhill and was a baker's assistant. After the incident described in that reference, she became ill with consumption/TB and died at the age of 36 years. She was buried at Bretby churchyard. The post was formerly housed in the Burton Town Museum which closed around 1980. From then until 2007 it was on display at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in the town in a glass case. In July 2007 the post was supposedly "given away" to the Victoria and Albert Museum by the East Staffordshire Borough Council causing a furore in the town. Further investigation shows that the post had been purchased by the V and A in 1922 and then loaned back to Burton Town Museum. This was planned to have only been for a matter of months but for some reason the post remained in Burton until 2007. The "controversy" as reported in the local press was therefore not warranted. The post is now displayed in the Architecture Section of the V and A.

The Burton upon Trent war memorial commemorates those from the town that were killed in the First and Second World Wars. The memorial was commissioned by the county borough of Burton upon Trent from sculptor Henry Charles Fehr shortly after the end of the First World War. The finished memorial was unveiled by William Legge, 6th Earl of Dartmouth on 2 August 1922. Its principal figure is that of Victory, standing atop a pedestal that is flanked by the smaller figures of Saint George and Peace. The memorial is a grade II* listed building.

Burton & South Derbyshire College (BSDC) is a general further education college and is situated in Burton upon Trent town centre. It attracts approximately 13,000 students from Burton and the surrounding towns and villages. It delivers a wide range of courses for all ages including 16- to 19-year-olds, adults into part-time study, employer training and higher education. Recently a 'university centre' has been developed within the college to enable students to study on franchised higher education courses, but is not in itself a university. The University of Wolverhampton's School of Health and Wellbeing has a presence at Burton Health Education Centre located at the Queen's Hospital, Burton upon Trent, which specialises in nursing. In early 2011 the college was renamed from "Burton College".

Burton-on-Trent railway station is a mainline railway station located in the town of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Railway, although only CrossCountry services call at this station.
