St Mary's Church, Mosterton

Mosterton is a village and civil parish in Dorset, England, situated approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Beaminster. In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 604.The village's name derives from Old English and means the thorn tree belonging to a man named Mort. In 1086 it was recorded in the Domesday Book as Mortestorne.Mosterton is a linear settlement, grown along the A3066 road. It lies 2 miles (3.2 km) from Crewkerne railway station across the nearby county boundary in Somerset, and is served by a regular bus service from Yeovil to Bridport. It is home of the Admiral Hood pub, Eeles Pottery, the Parrett and Axe Church of England Primary School and St. Mary's Church (Church of England). The village is divided by the River Axe, from which the primary school takes its name (along with the River Parrett that flows through the nearby village of South Perrott). St Mary's Church was rebuilt on a new site in 1833. The interior of the church is quite understated, but does however retain its original fittings. The focus of the church is the stained glass window behind the altar. It was installed in 1975 and includes a combine harvester and a tractor, depicting the farming background of many of the local community. The Admiral Hood pub is named after Admiral Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood (1724-1816). The pub was rebuilt in its original style after a gutting fire in 1955. Before the reconstruction it was called the New Inn, but on completion it was decided to honour the Hood family who had occupied a Georgian house that was originally on the site of the New Inn, who had a long naval history and whose name has been used on many battleships.

South Perrott is a village and civil parish in northwest Dorset, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Crewkerne. In 2012 the estimated population of the parish was 220. Figures from the 2011 census have been published for South Perrott parish combined with the neighbouring parish of Chedington; the population in these areas was 367.The name Perrott comes from the River Parrett.The manor was held with North Perrott just over the border in Somerset.Immediately south of the church are some earthworks, the remains of the moated enclosures of Mohun Castle. A geophysical survey of this site was undertaken in 1996.

Beaminster Tunnel or Horn Hill Tunnel is a 345-foot-long (105 m) road tunnel on the A3066 road between Beaminster and Mosterton in Dorset, England. The tunnel was constructed between 1830 and 1832; it was one of the first road tunnels built in Britain, and is the only pre-railway road tunnel in the country still in use. It was built to take a toll road underneath a steep hill to the north of Beaminster and make it easier for horse-drawn traffic to travel from the coast to the hinterland of Dorset. It underwent significant repairs in 1968 and again in 2009, but in 2012 a torrential rainstorm caused a landslide that resulted in the partial collapse of the tunnel's north entrance and the deaths of two people.

Crewkerne railway station is located in Misterton in Somerset, England, and serves the area around the town of Crewkerne. It is 131 miles 33 chains (211.5 km) from London Waterloo on the West of England Main Line to Exeter. The main building is listed Grade II and is surrounded by several other old railway buildings.

Conegar Hill is a prominent rise, 214 metres (702 ft) high, just north of the village of Broadwindsor in the Yeovil Scarplands, in the county of Dorset in southern England. It has a prominence of 51 metres (167 ft) which classifies it as one of the Tumps.The actual summit is unwooded and bounded to the east and west by tributaries of the River Axe and to the south by the Broadwindsor col to Waddon Hill. To the north is Blagdon Hill, a subsummit on the same ridge. The B3164 from Broadwindsor crosses the southeastern flank of Conegar Hill to join the A 3066 at Whetley Cross 2 kilometres to the northeast. A small lane, branches off northwards across the western side of the hill.The name "Conegar" derives from the early Medieval English term "cony-garth" literally meaning rabbit yard. The name was chosen as the hill was possibly the remnants of an ancient man-made pillow mound, used for raising rabbits or because of the close resemblance to a pillow mound.

Seaborough Hill is a prominent ridge, 204 metres (669 ft) high, on the Dorset-Somerset border in the Yeovil Scarplands in southwestern England. It has a prominence of 80 metres (260 ft) which classifies it as one of the Tumps.Seaborough Hill rises immediately north of the village of Seaborough and about 3 kilometres southwest of the town centre of Crewkerne. A minor road traverses the summit from north to south and there is a trig point (201 m) by the lane at the northern end of the summit ridge, near Honeydown Farm. There are scattered woods on the western and eastern flanks of the hill. The River Axe runs past the hill to the south and two major trails - Liberty Trail and Monarch's Way bypass it to the north and south respectively. The county boundary runs along the ridgeline before swinging around the northern spur of the hill and heading away to the southeast.

Conegar Road Cutting (grid reference ST439028) is a 0.15 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Dorset, notified in 1996.

Broadwindsor ( ) is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in South West England. It lies 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Beaminster. Broadwindsor was formerly a liberty, containing only the parish itself. Dorset County Council estimate that in 2013 the population of the civil parish was 1,320. In the 2011 census the population of the parish, combined with that of the small parish of Seaborough to the north, was 1,378.The parish church is principally Perpendicular in style, though it has origins in the 12th and 13th centuries, and was rebuilt in 1868. Thomas Fuller, who wrote The Worthies of England and The History of the Holy Warre, preached here between 1634 and 1650.King Charles II stayed the night in the village on 23 September 1651, after his flight from the Battle of Worcester.

Waddon Hill is a hill and the site of an old Roman fort near Beaminster, in the English county of Dorset. The name Waddon is from the Old English meaning wheat hill. The Wessex Ridgeway passes to the north of the hill summit and Roman fort. The B3162 road passes close to the western end of the hill. Lewesdon Hill is about 0.6 miles (1 km) to the west. There is no public right of way on the summit of Waddon Hill, although the hill was frequently walked by locals for centuries, until a change of ownership in the 21st century.

St John's Church is a Church of England church in Seaborough, Dorset, England. Much of the church dates to a rebuild of 1882 and it now forms part of the Beaminster Area Team Ministry. The church is a Grade II listed building.

North Perrott Manor House which later became Perrott Hill School in North Perrott, Somerset, England was built in 1877 by Thomas Henry Wyatt. It is a Grade II* listed building.
