Franklin Square (Philadelphia)

Franklin Square station is an unused, underground rapid transit station on the PATCO Speedline, operated by the Delaware River Port Authority. It is located under Franklin Square in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Opened on June 7, 1936, the station was the first westbound and final eastbound station in Philadelphia, located just west of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge which carries trains over the Delaware River. The station has been opened for four separate intervals, each time eventually being closed for low ridership. The station is currently being refurbished and is expected to open once again in April 2024.

Pennsylvania Hall, "one of the most commodious and splendid buildings in the city," was an abolitionist venue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, built in 1837–38. It was a "Temple of Free Discussion", where antislavery, women's rights, and other reform lecturers could be heard. Four days after it opened it was destroyed by arson, the work of an anti-abolitionist mob. Except for the burning of the White House and the Capitol during the War of 1812, it was the worst case of arson in American history up to that date. This was only six months after the murder of Rev. Elijah P. Lovejoy by a pro-slavery mob in Illinois, a free state. The abolitionist movement consequently became stronger. The process repeated itself with Pennsylvania Hall; the movement gained strength because of the outrage the burning caused. Abolitionists realized that in some places they would be met with violence. The country became more polarized.

Chinatown station is an underground SEPTA subway station in Philadelphia. It is located on the Broad Street Line's Broad-Ridge Spur, and is located at the eastern edge of Philadelphia's Chinatown at 8th and Race Streets. Corresponding to the signage in the Chinatown neighborhood, the station name signs are written in Chinese in addition to English. The station is adjacent to the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and the former Philadelphia Police Headquarters. Franklin Square and its abandoned PATCO station are located a block east of the station. North of the station, the subway runs underneath Ridge Avenue past the abandoned Spring Garden station, to the Fairmount station, after which it joins with the main tracks of the Broad Street subway. South of the station, the subway tracks run along 8th Street, parallel to the PATCO Speedline for two blocks, until the Broad–Ridge Spur approaches its terminus at the 8th Street station, located at 8th and Market Streets.

The National Constitution Center is a non-profit institution devoted to the Constitution of the United States. On Independence Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the center is an interactive museum and a national town hall for constitutional dialogue, hosting government leaders, journalists, scholars, and celebrities for public discussions (including presidential debates). The center offers civic learning resources onsite and online. It does not house the original Constitution, which is stored at the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 17, 2000, the 213th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. The center opened on July 4, 2003, joining other historic sites and attractions in what has been called "America's most historic square mile" because of its proximity to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

The Boekel Building is a historic factory building located in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 505–515 Vine Street, west of North 5th Street. It was built in 1922–23, and is a six-story, reinforced concrete building clad in brick with terra cotta details. It features massive brick piers and broad banks of windows; the windows were replaced in 1992.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The Federal Detention Center (FDC Philadelphia) is a United States Federal prison in Center City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which holds male and female inmates prior to or during court proceedings, as well as inmates serving brief sentences. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice.The jail, across from the William J. Green Jr. Federal Building, is on a 1-acre (0.40 ha) site the southwest corner of Arch Street and 7th Street, across from the African American Museum in Philadelphia and in the Independence Mall area.The jail is 12 stories tall. It has 628 cells for United States Marshal Service pre-trial inmates, primarily from the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey and the District of Delaware. Federal Detention Center Philadelphia is also a United States Parole Commission Revocation Site. 120 prisoners, already sentenced, serve as staff. The prison is connected to a tunnel that allows people to travel to and from the James A. Byrne United States Courthouse.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) is notable as the first museum funded and built by a municipality to help preserve, interpret and exhibit the heritage of African Americans. Opened during the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations, the AAMP is located in historic Philadelphia on Arch Street, a few blocks away from the Liberty Bell.

The General Electric Switchgear Plant is a historic factory building located at 421 North 7th Street at Willow Street in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1916, and is a seven-story, seven bay by nine bay, reinforced concrete building with brick facing. It was designed by William Steele & Company for General Electric, which manufactured electric switchboard equipment there.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. A music venue, Franklin Music Hall, occupies part of the building.

The Philadelphia School of Anatomy was a medical college in Philadelphia which was established by James McClintock in 1838 that ran until 1875. From 1868 to 1875 it was run by William Williams Keen.

MilkBoy is an American recording studio and entertainment company founded in 1994 by Tommy Joyner. Company headquarters is located at MilkBoy the Studio, at 413 North 7th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The original "MilkBoy Recording" was located in north Philadelphia at 5th and Olney above Zapf's music. In 2002 after partnering with composer Jamie Lokoff in 1999 Joyner moved to the Philadelphia "main line" area and opened the second studio at 44 West Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. In 2006, MilkBoy opened its first food and beverage operation, a coffee shop and acoustic music venue on Cricket Avenue in Ardmore, right around the corner from the recording studio. A few years later they opened another MilkBoy Coffee in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, which changed ownership in 2012.In late 2011, MilkBoy Coffee obtained a liquor license and changed locations to Center City, Philadelphia. The newly named "MilkBoy" ("Coffee" was dropped from the business) a bar, restaurant, and live music venue, opened at 1100 Chestnut Street in Center City Philadelphia. Shortly after, in January 2012, Joyner and Lokoff left the Ardmore studio, bought what had previously been "The Studio," at 413 North 7th, and rebranded as MilkBoy the Studio, taking over operations from the previous owner producer/arranger Larry Gold. In his 2013 profile for Philadelphia Weekly, Kyle Cassidy touts the enterprising MilkBoy group as a Philly institution in entertainment and hospitality, writing "what’s most defined their success, especially over the last year, is their willingness to diversify and seek business outside of the obvious realm of straightforward music production."In 2010, partners Lokoff and Joyner formed the production company BBCG Films, LLC with co-producers Tammy Tiehel-Stedman and Brian O'Connor to produce the movie "Slow Learners," a romantic comedy starring Adam Pally and Sarah Burns. The movie was released by IFC Films' Sundance Selects on August 19th, 2015. In 2017, the MilkBoy brand expanded to College Park, Maryland opening MilkBoy ArtHouse in partnership with the University of Maryland, College Park. MilkBoy decided to end their partnership with UMD at the end of 2019. MilkBoy hosts three open mic competitions each year. The event kicks off at their south street location on Monday nights where ten finalists are chosen to move on to a live Competition at the Chestnut St. Location. The winner of this final event receives a recording contract at the studio on callowhill.

Lit Brothers was a moderately-priced department store based in Philadelphia. Samuel and Jacob Lit opened the first store at North 8th and Market Streets in 1891. Lits positioned itself well as a more affordable alternate to its upscale competitors Strawbridge and Clothier, John Wanamaker, and Gimbels. The store's slogan was "A Great Store in A Great City," and it was noted for its millinery department. The Lit Brother Store building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and is located in the East Center City Commercial Historic District.

Franklin Music Hall is a concert venue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is in a converted building once part of the General Electric Switchgear Plant and opened in 1995. It has a capacity between 2,500 and 3,000 people. It is owned and operated by The Bowery Presents. The venue features a variety of musical acts in the rap, electronic, heavy metal, rock, grunge, and pop genres.
