East Falls (also The Falls, formerly the Falls of Schuylkill) is a neighborhood in Lower Northwest, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It lies on the east bank of the "Falls of the Schuylkill," cataracts submerged in 1822 by the Schuylkill Canal and Fairmount Water Works projects. East Falls sits next to the Germantown, Roxborough, Allegheny West, and the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhoods. Wissahickon Valley Park separates it from Manayunk, Philadelphia. The neighborhood runs along a few miles of Ridge Avenue, along the banks of the Schuylkill River, then extends northeast to Wissahickon Avenue. It overlooks the multi-use recreational path of Fairmount Park along Kelly Drive, and is desirable for its central location, an easy commute to Center City with easy access to several major roadways and public transportation. The largest center of commerce in East Falls is the Falls Center, which is home for over 18 businesses and an apartment complex.

The Thomas Mifflin School is an historic, American school that is located in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the School District of Philadelphia. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

East Falls station is a station located along the Manayunk/Norristown Line in the East Falls section of Lower Northwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located at Midvale Avenue & Cresson Street and includes a 51 space parking lot. In FY 2017, East Falls station had a weekday average of 835 boardings and 752 alightings.Though little more than a pair of platforms with open shelters and a trailer, it serves as a replacement for a former Reading Railroad station which was opened in 1912, and burnt down approximately in 1982. It contains a staircase leading to Cresson Street and the station on the north side of the viaduct over Midvale Avenue, and a pedestrian crosswalk with a traffic signal exclusively for that crosswalk on the south side.

Wissahickon is a neighborhood in the section of Lower Northwest Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. Wissahickon is located adjacent to the neighborhoods of Roxborough and Manayunk, and it is bounded by the Wissahickon Valley Park, Ridge Avenue, Hermit Street, and Henry Avenue. The name of the neighborhood is derived from the Lenni Lenape word wisameckham, for "catfish creek", a reference to the fish that were once plentiful in the Wissahickon Creek.

Ravenhill is a Renaissance Revival mansion at 3480–90 School House Lane in the West Germantown section of Philadelphia. Designed by architect Willis Gaylord Hale and completed in 1887, the suburban house was built for chemical manufacturer William Weightman. Weightman was popularly known as the "Quinine King" and "the richest man in Pennsylvania."For much of the 20th century, the mansion housed Ravenhill Academy, a Catholic private school for girls. It is now part of the East Falls campus of Thomas Jefferson University.

The Paul J. Gutman Library is the main library of Thomas Jefferson University, which is located in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Gutman Library opened in 1992 to replace the university's Pastore Library (now the Architecture & Design School). The architectural firm of Shepley Bulfinch was responsible for the building's design. In 1993, the library won the Louis I. Kahn Award for best-designed academic building from American School and University, a national publication for educational institutions.

Thomas Jefferson University is a private research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Established in its earliest form in 1824, the university officially combined with Philadelphia University in 2017. To signify its heritage, the university sometimes carries the nomenclature Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) in its branding. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".The university is named for U.S. Founding Father and president Thomas Jefferson.

Spider Bridge at Falls of Schuylkill was an iron-wire footbridge erected in 1816 over the Schuylkill River, north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Though a modest and temporary structure, it is thought to have been the first wire-cable suspension bridge in the world.

The Twin Bridges are a pair of steel-plate girder bridges that span the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They carry northbound and southbound traffic on US 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) just north of its intersection with Interstate 76. The northbound bridge has 11 spans and is 1,921 feet long, while the southbound bridge has 12 spans and is 1,990 feet long. The bridges were built in 1960 and partially rebuilt (redecked) in 1985 and again in 2010. Each bridge carries three lanes of traffic. The bridges span the Schuylkill River, Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Kelly Drive, Ridge Avenue, ramps to and from Ridge Avenue, and railroad tracks, including the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, Schuylkill River Viaduct. The bridges' design was awarded a Certificate of Award Class II (Honorable Mention) by the American Institute of Steel Construction, who designated it one of "America's Most Beautiful Bridges".

The Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMCP) was a Philadelphia medical college founded for women in 1850. It was the second medical institution in the world established to train women in medicine to earn the M.D. degrees after the New England Female Medical College in Boston, which was established two years earlier in 1848.Originally called the Female Medical College of Pennsylvania, the college changed its name in 1867 to Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania. The associated Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia was founded in 1861. Upon deciding to admit men in 1970, the college was renamed as the Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP). In 1930, the college opened its new campus in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, which combined teaching and the clinical care of a hospital in one overall facility. It was the first purpose-built hospital in the nation. In 1993, the college and hospital merged with Hahnemann Medical School. In 2003, the two colleges were absorbed by Drexel University College of Medicine.

The Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, Bridge at West Falls is a stone and iron plate girder bridge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that carries two CSX Trenton Subdivision tracks over Kelly Drive, Schuylkill River, and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (formerly West River Drive). It was built in 1890 by the Reading Railroad, and forms a "Y" junction with the adjacent Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, Schuylkill River Viaduct (1854). The bridge consists of an 80-foot (24 m) stone arch over Kelly Drive and eight plate-girder spans that follow a 6-degree curve.

Chain Bridge at Falls of Schuylkill was an 1808 iron-chain suspension bridge built across the Schuylkill River, north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Designed by inventor James Finley, it became the model for his later chain suspension bridges. It collapsed in 1816 under a heavy load of snow.
