Stapleton, Staten Island

Edgewater Village Hall is a historic former village hall situated within Tappen Park, a public park located in Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. The village hall was built in 1889 for the village of Edgewater, which was dissolved nine years later with the consolidation of New York City. The building is a 1+1⁄2-story, T-shaped building with a square tower and slate-covered hipped roof in the Romanesque Revival style, now used for municipal offices. The park dates to 1867 and provides a dramatic setting for the village hall.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Tappen Park is a small park and square in the Stapleton neighborhood on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City. It is bounded by Bay Street on the east, Water Street on the north, and Canal Street on the south and west. It is named for First World War veteran James Tappen. The land that the park is sited on was first purchased by the government in 1867, and it was acquired by the City of New York in 1898. In 2008, the east end of the park facing Bay Street underwent improvements to add a small fountain amidst a round court, as well as new pathways. The renovated park is now reopened. It was listed as part of the Edgewater Village Hall and Tappen Park on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The houses at 364 and 390 Van Duzer Street are two historic homes located in the Stapleton neighborhood of Staten Island in New York City, located about a block apart from one another. 364 Van Duzer Street is a 2+1⁄2-story, clapboard-covered frame house with a gable roof. It features a tetrastyle portico with 2-story, Doric order columns rising to an overhanging spring-eave, unusual on a Greek Revival house and more characteristic of Dutch Colonial architecture. This hybrid style is indigenous to Staten Island. The house was built in 1835 by Robert M. Hazard, captain of the Nautilus, a ferryboat owned by Daniel Tompkins, as well as postmaster of Tompkinsville. 390 Van Duzer Street is a 2+1⁄2-story, clapboard-covered house with an original 1+1⁄2-story kitchen wing. It also features a tetrastyle portico, but with 2-story Corinthian order columns.Both buildings reflect Greek Revival style architecture of the 1830s.Both buildings were designated as New York City Landmarks in 1973. The buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Boardman–Mitchell House is a three-story, six-bedroom Italianate villa located at 710 Bay Street, Staten Island, New York. It also has the address of 33 Brownell Street since it connects to both streets. It is a New York City Landmark and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. It is known as a good example of a suburban architectural style used in an urban setting, as well as its connection to the piloting history of that portion of Staten Island.

The Gerard Carter Community Center is a facility located in Staten Island, New York. Its main basketball court is home to the Staten Island Vipers of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

St. Paul's Memorial Church is an Anglo-Catholic Episcopal parish in New York City, New York located at 225 St. Paul's Avenue in the Stapleton area of Staten Island. The historic church was built in 1866 of rough-faced, irregularly cut blocks of Staten Island trap rock with brownstone trim. It has buttressed side walls, a steeply pitched roof, and angled buttresses at the corners. The front side features a central rose window. An auxiliary chapel was added in 1889. The rectory is also built of trap rock with brownstone trim.It was added as "St. Paul's Memorial Church and Rectory" to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Bayley Seton Hospital (BSH) was a hospital in Stapleton, Staten Island, New York City. It was a part of the Bayley Seton campus of Richmond University Medical Center but is permanently closed. The campus was established in 1831 as a U.S Marine Hospital, and the current main building was constructed in the 1930s. In 1981, it became a private hospital.

The Stapleton Houses are a housing project in the Stapleton neighborhood of Staten Island, New York City. The project consists of six 8-story buildings with 693 apartment units. It covers 16.87 acres (6.83 ha) and is bordered by Tompkins Avenue, and Broad, Hill, Warren and Gordon Streets. It is owned and managed by New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and is the largest NYCHA development in Staten Island.

Naval Station New York was a United States Navy Naval Station on Staten Island in New York City, closed in 1994. Opened in 1990, it was part of the Reagan administration's Strategic Homeport program. The station had two sections: a Strategic Homeport in Stapleton where ships docked, and a larger section occupying Fort Wadsworth, where administrative offices and bachelor and family housing were located. Comprising about 266 acres (108 ha) with some 280,000 square feet (26,000 m2) of office space, the naval station was also home to NAVRESSO, the Navy Resale and Services Support Office, commanded by Admiral Squibb. NAVRESSO later moved to Norfolk, Virginia. A pier was built to accommodate the warships of a surface action group. The pier was later named for the Sullivan brothers. Ships that called the pier home included the frigates USS Donald B. Beary (FF-1085), USS Ainsworth (FF-1090), and USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) and at least one cruiser, the USS Normandy (CG-60). The base was to be the homeport of the battleship USS Iowa until an explosion in one of the ship's turrets led to the ship's decommissioning. The area is still known colloquially as The Homeport. Naval Station New York (Staten Island) was recommended for closure under the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure Commission, as it was deemed too small, too expensive to house personnel, and made unnecessary with cuts to the Navy. It was closed in 1994. Fort Wadsworth was turned over to the Department of the Interior in 1995 and is administered as part of Gateway National Recreation Area. The Stapleton pier area was turned over to the City of New York. The area around the pier is being converted into a mixed-use waterfront neighborhood called Stapleton Homeport. Ground was broken for the long-delayed project on June 20, 2013. A new station for the fire boat Fire Fighter II opened on the pier in 2012, and the pier is also still used by the Navy during New York City's annual Fleet Week celebrations.

Caleb T. Ward Mansion is a historic home located at 141 Nixon Avenue on Ward Hill, Staten Island, New York. Caleb Tompkins Ward built the mansion in 1835 with the help of architect George B. David, who built the mansion out of stucco and brick in an imposing Greek Revival style. Ward acquired the land for his mansion in 1826, after his uncle died. His uncle was Daniel D. Tompkins, Governor of New York. The mansion commands magnificent views of New York Harbor and the metropolitan area. It has a two-story tetra style portico and iconic columns. A large rectangular cupola tops the building and an estate of 250 acres originally surrounded the manor. Today, Ward Mansion is one of the last great houses remaining from a time when the North shore of Staten Island was a fashionable resort for wealthy New Yorkers.On July 26, 1982, the mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places, after having become a New York City Landmark in 1978.

Clifton is a neighborhood on the North Shore of Staten Island in New York City, United States. It is an older waterfront neighborhood, facing Upper New York Bay on the east. It is bordered on the north by Stapleton, on the south by Rosebank, on the southwest by Concord, and on the west by Van Duzer Street.
