Steklov Institute of Mathematics or Steklov Mathematical Institute (Russian: Математический институт имени В.А.Стеклова) is a premier research institute based in Moscow, specialized in mathematics, and a part of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute is named after Vladimir Andreevich Steklov, who in 1919 founded the Institute of Physics and Mathematics in Leningrad. In 1934, this institute was split into separate parts for physics and mathematics, and the mathematical part became the Steklov Institute. At the same time, it was moved to Moscow. The first director of the Steklov Institute was Ivan Matveyevich Vinogradov. From 1961–1964, the institute's director was the notable mathematician Sergei Chernikov.The old building of the Institute in Leningrad became its Department in Leningrad. Today, that department has become a separate institute, called the St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences or PDMI RAS, located in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The name St. Petersburg Department is misleading, however, because the St. Petersburg Department is now an independent institute. In 1966, the Moscow-based Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics (Russian: Институт прикладной математики им. М.В.Келдыша) split off from the Steklov Institute.

The Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LPI RAS or just LPI) (in Russian: Физи́ческий институ́т имени П.Н.Ле́бедева Российской академии наук (ФИАН)), situated in Moscow, is one of the leading Russian research institutes specializing in physics. It is also one of the oldest research institutions in Russia: its history dates back to a collection of physics equipment established by Peter the Great in the Kunstkamera of Saint Petersburg in 1714. The institute was established in its present shape in 1934 by academician Sergey Vavilov. It moved to Moscow and was named after a prominent Russian physicist Pyotr Lebedev the same year. It is also known as P. N. Lebedev Institute of Physics or just Lebedev Institute. In Russian it is often referred to by the acronym FIAN (ФИАН) standing for "Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences". The wide range of the research activities includes: laser technology, dark matter structure, nanostructures, superconductivity, cosmic rays, and gamma-astronomy. The institute developed a technique of crystallizing cubic zirconia (which was called Fianit in Russia, named after FIAN).

The State Darwin Museum (Russian: Государственный Дарвиновский музей) is a natural history museum in Moscow. The museum was founded in 1907 by Alexander Kohts (1880–1964) and was the world's first museum of evolution explaining the work of Charles Darwin as a causal explanation of nature.

Akademichesky District (Russian: Академи́ческий райо́н, literally "academic district") is an administrative district (raion) of South-Western Administrative Okrug, and one of the 125 raions of Moscow, Russia. The area of the district is 5.57 square kilometers (2.15 sq mi). Population: 109,000 (2017 est.). The district contains a number of scientific organizations and research institutions. The streets in the district are named after famous scientists and engineers. The Akademichesky metro station is on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line (No. 6), with a transfer to the planned Kommunarskaya line (No. 16).

Gagarinsky District, Moscow (Russian: Гагаринский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of South-Western Administrative Okrug, and one of the 125 raions of Moscow, Russia. The area of the district is 5.50 square kilometers (2.12 sq mi). Population - 72,072. Established in 1995.

The Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (Russian: Российский государственный университет нефти и газа имени И. М. Губкина) is a public university in Moscow, Russia. The university was founded in 1930 and is named after the geologist Ivan Gubkin. The university is colloquially known as Kerosinka (Russian: Керосинка), meaning 'kerosene stove'. During the Soviet period, the university, along with the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, was known for admitting students of Jewish origin while other universities unofficially barred Jewish students. Affiliates of the Gubkin institute exist in Orenburg and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

N. D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (ZIOC) is one of the research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of chemistry. The institute employs more than 900 people in 39 research laboratories and groups. It is located in Moscow.

Akademicheskaya (Russian: Академи́ческая, IPA: [ɐkədʲɪˈmʲitɕɪskəjə],English: Academy's) is a station on the Moscow Metro's Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya Line. It is named for the several Akademichesky Proyezd streets formerly located nearby, which were themselves named after the Russian Academy of Sciences but have all been renamed since. Akademicheskaya opened on October 13, 1962, and was designed by Yuliya Kolesnikova, Petukhova, and Fokina. Built to the relatively new pillar-trispan design (aka Sorokonozhka, centipede), which became prevalent in the 1960s due to its low construction costs. The station has white marble pillars accented with a stripe of black marble near the top. The walls, originally faced with white tile with four horizontal blue stripes, were re-covered in 2003 with similarly coloured aluminium planes for a cleaner, more modern look. The entrances to the station are located around Ho Chi Minh Square, at the intersection of Profsoyuznaya and Dmitriy Ulyanov streets. Currently the station serves 67,400 passengers daily. In 2024, a transfer to Akademicheskaya on the Troitskaya line is planned.

Krymskaya (Russian: Крымская) is a Moscow Metro station under construction on Troitskaya line. It is scheduled to be opened in September 2025 as part of the northern extension of the line, between Novatorskaya and ZIL. It will be located between Akademicheskaya and ZIL. There will be a transfer to the eponymous station of the Moscow Central Circle.

Akademicheskaya (Russian: Академическая) is a Moscow Metro station under construction on Troitskaya line. It is scheduled to be opened in September 2025 as part of the extension of the line, between Novatorskaya and ZIL. It will be located between Vavilovskaya and Krymskaya.

The Ho Chi Minh monument in Moscow (Russian: памятник Хо Ши Мину) at Ho Chi Minh Square in Akademichesky District memorializes North Vietnamese president Ho Chi Minh, who was Chairman and founder of the Workers' Party of Vietnam. The monument was inaugurated on May 18, 1990, on the eve of Ho Chi Minh's 100th birthday.

Russian World Studios was founded in 1984 by Yuri Sapronov and Andrei Smirnov, and is one of the largest film and television production companies in the Russian market. As of 1992, the company had produced or serviced over 400 film and television projects. The studio has worked with Sony Pictures Television International, Hallmark Entertainment, HBO Films, and Beacon Pictures. RWS offers a range of film production services as well as their own distribution department, which sells in-house film and TV series on the international market. The company's film studios are located in Moscow and St. Petersburg.At the end of 2007 RWS joined JSFC "Sistema", the largest diversified holding company in Russia. This new partnership has allowed RWS to focus on three main areas of growth: studio facilities, including the expansion of the new St. Petersburg studio; production, including the expansion and efficient use of the content library; and distribution of content across current and emerging media platforms.In 2012, after being located on the premises of former automotive giant ZIL for decades, RWS decided to open another studio in St. Petersburg.
