Healey, Ossett

Healey Mills Marshalling Yard was a railway marshalling yard located in the village of Healey, south west of Ossett in West Yorkshire, England. The yard was opened in 1963 and replaced several smaller yards in the area. It was part of the British Transport Commission's Modernisation plan, and so was equipped with a hump to enable the efficient shunting and re-ordering of goods wagons. The yard lost its main reason for existence through the 1970s and 1980s when more trains on the British Rail system became block trains where their wagons required less, or more commonly, no shunting. Facilities at the site were progressively run down until it closed completely in 2012.

Ossett Albion Association Football Club was an English football club. They played at Queen's Terrace in Ossett, in West Yorkshire, more commonly known as Dimplewells, the area of Ossett the ground is situated in.

Ossett is a market town in West Yorkshire, England. It is almost entirely within the local-authority area of the City of Wakefield, but a small area lies in Kirklees Metropolitan Borough. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated between Dewsbury, Horbury and Wakefield. At the 2021 census, the town had a population of 21,861. Ossett forms part of the Heavy Woollen District.

Ossett was a railway station serving the town of Ossett, West Yorkshire. The station on the Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds Railway and it opened on 2 April 1864 and closed on 5 September 1964. It had an island platform accessed from a ramp surrounded by goods yards. After closure the tracks were lifted, and the area has been built over with housing.

Ossett Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Place, Ossett, West Yorkshire, England. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Ossett Borough Council until 1974, is a grade II listed building.

Middlestown is a small village in the Wakefield District in West Yorkshire, England. The village is in the civil parish of Sitlington and located halfway between the city of Wakefield and the town of Huddersfield, and is 3 miles (5 km) south east of Dewsbury.

South Ossett is the south part of the town of Ossett, in West Yorkshire, England. The north part is known as 'Ossett and Gawthorpe'. South Ossett is just north of Horbury with the main road of Storrs Hill Road. Much of the new building growth in Ossett has been concentrated in the South Ossett area. The town is next to countryside and is part of the Wakefield constituency and "Horbury and South Ossett" ward for elections. Two schools are located on Storrs Hill Road: Ossett Academy and St. Ignatius Catholic Primary School. The former is Ossett's only remaining high school. Previously there was a North Ossett School. The current Ossett school was previously Ossett Grammar School, where the author Stan Barstow was educated during the Second World War.

The Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, more commonly known as Trinity Church, is the main Church of England parish church for the market town of Ossett, West Yorkshire, England. Located on plateau some 300 feet (91 m) above sea level, the church's 226 feet (69 m) high spire is a local landmark, making the church amongst the tallest in the country. Built from 1862 to 1865 in the Gothic Revival style, the church has been designated a Grade II* listed building since 1988 by Historic England.

Thornhill is a village and former township in the unparished area of Dewsbury, Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Thornhill was absorbed into Dewsbury County Borough in 1910. It is located on a hill on the south side of the River Calder, and has extensive views of Dewsbury, Ossett and Wakefield. It is known for its collection of Anglo-Saxon crosses.
