Kenley, Shropshire

Hughley (grid reference SO565979) is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Much Wenlock. It lies in the south Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The limestone escarpment Wenlock Edge is about 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east, and the parish lies on Wenlock Shale. Hughley Brook, which runs north-east along the western edge of the village, is the parish border with Church Preen (to the west of Hughley) and Kenley (to the north).

Harnage is a small village in the English county of Shropshire. It is located just SE of the village of Cound, in whose civil parish it lies, and the nearest notable settlement is Cressage. Harnage is considered a hamlet, not a village, as it does not have a post office. One road runs through the hamlet, passing residences, Harnage Farm, and Harnage House, a 17th-century house built on the site of an older mansion, allegedly dating back to the 11th or 12th century. The land was owned in the 12th century by Richard de Harnage, the progenitor of the Harnage family in England and in the USA. The name derives from the old English and means "rocky edge", which describes the area's landscape. It is completely agricultural. At the NW end of the road running through Harnage is the village of Cound (pronounced Koond) and at the other end is a junction at the foot of the hill, that runs into the place called Harnage Grange, a farm consortium, which, in ancient times pre-Henry VIII, used to be the home farm of Buildwas Abbey and Wenlock Priory, a few miles away near the town of Much Wenlock.

Acton Pigott is a hamlet in the English county of Shropshire. It lies just outside the village of Acton Burnell.

Langley Chapel is an Anglican church, built in 1601, located in a remote area (the parish of Ruckley and Langley) approximately 1.5 miles to the south of Acton Burnell, Shropshire, England. It is now in the care of English Heritage, and is notable for having a complete set of original 17th-century wooden furniture, and its lack of a chancel, in line both with its small size and Protestant attitudes to worship. It is one of the few new churches built in England in the Elizabethan period. Despite being built at the start of the 17th century, the east window tracery is in a simplified Gothic style, though the doorways are in plain vernacular styles, one with a flat lintel and another round-headed. The window on the north side is also plain and rectangular. It is a Grade I listed building.Built on the site of an earlier medieval chapel, it provided worship for the nearby Langley Hall, whose ruins are contained within a nearby private farm. The Chapel was built with wooden box pews, a musicians desk and Communion table bench seats. It has no known dedication. The 19th century saw the disappearance of Langley Hall, followed by the loss of the local population. The chapel became disused. In 1914, it became one of the first buildings to be taken into the care of the state, the Ministry of Works as it was. The fact it was abandoned meant it escaped modernisation and remains a rare time capsule of the 17th century.

Church Preen is a dispersed hamlet and small civil parish in central Shropshire, England. The county town of Shropshire is Shrewsbury, which is located to the North and by road is 12 miles. It is located near Plaish, Kenley and Hughley. The nearest towns are Much Wenlock and Church Stretton; both are approximately 7 miles by road. The nearest city is Birmingham, which is located to the East of Church Preen. It is approximately 49 miles by road and takes just over 1 hour to get there. The A49 runs 6 miles to the West and the nearest train station is at Church Stretton, which is 7.4 miles away. Church Preen has a total of 30 different households, 6 of which are semi-detached and the others are groups of buildings, mostly farms. Located in the centre of the hamlet is St. John the Baptist parish church, a separate graveyard, a post box, telephone box, a pump cottage, Preen Manor, a well, Church Preen pre-school, Church Preen (disused) quarry and just on the outskirts is Church Preen Primary School. The primary employment sectors are education and agriculture. The primary school at Church Preen, called Church Preen Primary School, serves the local, rural communities. There are currently around 40 pupils at the school spread over 3 classes from the ages of 5 to 11. More can be read on the school in the education section. There is also a preschool called Church Preen Preschool. It is held at The Village Hall, Church Preen and children from 2 up to 5 years old are welcome.

Ruckley and Langley is a civil parish in Shropshire, England. It is centred on the hamlets of Ruckley and Langley. The population at the 2011 census can be found under Frodesley. It is situated south of Acton Burnell and west of Kenley.Langley Chapel, in Langley, is a small church, built in 1601, and now owned by English Heritage.

St Peter's Church is in the grounds of Cound Hall, Cound, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Condover, the archdeaconry of Ludlow, and the diocese of Hereford. Its benefice is united with those of 13 other parishes to form the benefice of Wenlock. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

Easthope Halt railway station was a station in Easthope Wood on Wenlock Edge, Easthope, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1936 and closed in 1951.

Cound Halt was an unstaffed railway station on the Severn Valley line in Shropshire, England. It opened on 4 August 1934 and although thought by some people to have been closed as part of the Beeching axe in 1963 its planned closure pre-dated his report. The site of the station is now occupied by the beer garden of the adjacent Riverside Inn pub.

Cound Hall, in Cound, Shropshire, England, is a Grade I listed building. It is a large vernacular Baroque house, with a basement and two storeys of tall slender windows topped by a half-storey, built of red brick with stone dressings. The house was built in 1703–04 for Edward Cressett by John Prince of Shrewsbury.

Concord College is an independent co-educational international day/boarding school in Shropshire, England situated in the grounds of Acton Burnell Castle. The college admits students aged between 12 and 19; the majority of whom come from overseas. Concord College excels in academic results with an 85% A*-A at A-level and 82% A*-A at GCSE level.In 2009, to celebrate its 60th year, Concord was visited by the Princess Royal.

Acton Burnell Hall is a 19th-century country house, now used as a private school, located near the village of Acton Burnell, Shropshire, England. This house was built near to the castle in 1814 by the Smythe family. The hall is in classical style and is a Grade II* listed building. It is surrounded by parkland, with two lakes and a Gothic folly (Sham Castle). This folly has round towers, gothic windows and dates to 1780, standing on a mound in a field surrounded by trees. It was built for Sir Edward Smythe by Joseph Bromfield and used by the Smythe family as a music room.Acton Burnell Castle was another folly in the grounds. Large entrance doors were knocked through the private residence buildings. A pyramid roof structure was placed on top of a tower, turning it into a dovecote.Monks from the monastery of St Gregory’s, Douai, took refuge with Edward Smythe, the 5th baronet, until his death, whereupon they moved to Downside, Somerset in 1814. The relatively modern Hall and surrounding land is now a privately owned college, Concord College. The gable ends of the great barn, where the parliament sat, survive and are situated on the private land.
