WBHJ (95.7 FM) is an urban-leaning rhythmic-formatted radio station that serves Birmingham, Alabama. In 2005, it also began broadcasting in IBOC digital radio, using the HD Radio system from iBiquity. It is owned by SummitMedia along with six other stations in the market, and all share studios in the Cahaba neighborhood in far southeast Birmingham where the Program Director is Nuyork. Its transmitter is located atop Red Mountain in Birmingham.

WQEN (103.7 FM, "103.7 the Q") is a radio station licensed to serve Trussville, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by San Antonio–based iHeartMedia. Other stations in the Birmingham market owned by iHeartMedia include WDXB (102.5 FM), WERC-FM (105.5 FM), WERC (960 AM), and WMJJ (96.5 FM). The station has studios at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham (near Red Mountain) and its transmitter is on the west end of the Red Mountain range. It broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) station to Birmingham and north-central Alabama.

This format temporarily switches to Christmas music for the months of November and December. Its studios are located at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham, and its transmitter is on the west end of the Red Mountain range. The station carries a mainstream urban format, 104.1 The Beat, as well as K-Love, on HD Radio subchannels. They are simulcast in analog by 104.1 W281AB and 96.1 W241AI respectively.

WDXB (102.5 FM) is a country music formatted radio station licensed to Pelham, Alabama, and serving the Birmingham metropolitan area and north-central Alabama. The radio studios and offices are at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham (near Red Mountain). The station calls itself "102.5 The Bull" and is owned by San Antonio–based iHeartMedia WDXB has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 90,000 watts. The transmitter is in Red Mountain Park in Southwest Birmingham, off Venice Road. WDXB broadcasts using HD Radio technology. The HD-2 digital subchannel carries iHeart's Black Information Network which is fed by 225 watt FM translator W224CK at 92.7 MHz in Vestavia Hills.

WDJC-FM (93.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. The station was one of the first commercial FM radio stations in the United States to exclusively feature Christian programming. Today the station programs contemporary Christian music. Owned by Crawford Broadcasting Company, WDJC-FM's transmitter tower is in Southwest Birmingham, and its studios are located in Homewood.

WJOX-FM (94.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Birmingham. The station airs a sports radio format. WJOX is owned by Cumulus Media (the parent of radio network Westwood One). The station was assigned the WJOX-FM call sign by the Federal Communications Commission on February 8, 2010. The station has studios in Homewood and its transmitter is in West Birmingham along the west ridge of Red Mountain.

WZRR (99.5 MHz, "Talk 99.5") is an FM radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. It carries a talk radio format, simulcast with AM sister station WAPI. WZRR is one of several Birmingham-area radio stations owned by Cumulus Media, with radio studios and offices on Goodwin Crest Drive in Homewood.WZRR and WAPI carry local talk shows during the day, but at night they run nationally syndicated shows from the co-owned Westwood One Network including Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro, Dan Bongino, Red Eye Radio and First Light. Most hours begin with world and national news from ABC Radio News. It is also Central Alabama's radio home of Auburn Tigers athletics. WZRR's transmitter is west of Red Mountain, off Spaulding Ishkooda Road. It has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, from a tower more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) in height above average terrain (HAAT). It broadcasts using HD Radio technology.

West End Hills Missionary Baptist Church is a historic church at 1680 19th Place SW in Birmingham, Alabama. It was built between 1959 and 1965 when the main sanctuary was dedicated. The church is significant for its congregation's participation in the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights rallies for Civil rights in the 1950s and the 1960s under the direction of its pastor, the Rev. Coleman M. Smith. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Wenonah High School is a four-year public high school in Birmingham, Alabama. It is one of seven high schools in the Birmingham City School System. School colors are Old gold and white. The mascot is the Dragon. Wenonah competes in Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 5A athletics.

Lawson State Community College (Lawson State, Lawson, LSCC) is a public, historically black community college with campuses in Birmingham and Bessemer, Alabama. The technical division of the college was founded as Wenonah State Technical Institute in Birmingham in 1949. Lawson State is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and offers nearly 200 associate degree and certificate programs.LSCC's athletic teams compete in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). They are collectively known as the Cougars.In 2014, LSCC was announced as the leader of a four-year, $10 million federally-funded transportation industry training across four states. The college was ranked No. 5 on the Washington Monthly's Best Community Colleges list in 2013. The White House recognized LSCC as a "Champion of Change" in 2011 for its efforts to educate workers for its community.

John Carroll Catholic High School is a co-educational private school in Birmingham, Alabama, United States and is one of six Catholic high schools serving the Roman Catholic Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama.

Shades Mountain is a cuesta in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The mountain is bordered by Shades Crest Road to the west, Highway 150 to the south, Highway 280 to the east and Shades Creek to the north. It includes all of the neighborhood of Bluff Park in Hoover, where it summits, as well as portions of the cities of Homewood, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook.
