Bushwick is a working-class neighborhood in the northern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It is bounded by the neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens, to the northeast; Williamsburg to the northwest; East New York and the cemeteries of Highland Park to the southeast; Brownsville to the south; and Bedford–Stuyvesant to the southwest.The town was first founded by the Dutch during the Dutch colonization of the Americas in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the neighborhood became a community of German immigrants and their descendants. The 20th century saw an influx of Italian immigrants and Italian-Americans up to the 1980s. By the late 20th century, the neighborhood became predominantly Hispanic as another wave of immigrants arrived. Formerly Brooklyn's 18th Ward, the neighborhood was once an independent town and has undergone various territorial changes throughout its history. Bushwick is part of Brooklyn Community District 4, and its primary ZIP Codes are 11206, 11207, 11221, and 11237. It is patrolled by the 83rd Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Politically it is represented by the New York City Council's 34th and 37th Districts.

The Church of St. Barbara is a Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, located in northern Brooklyn, New York, in the Bushwick-Ridgewood neighborhood. The parish was established as a national parish to serve the German Catholic community, which later became Italian and then Hispanic by the 1960s.

Wyckoff Heights is an area within the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, straddling the border between Bushwick, Brooklyn, and southwest Ridgewood, Queens. Wyckoff Heights was urbanized starting in the late 19th century, and took its name from the Wyckoff family, who owned the land. The area was home first to many German immigrants, later followed by Italian and more recently Latino and Eastern-European residents. Ridgewood (formerly known as DeKalb Avenue) was a train station in New York along the Evergreen Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. The station opened on July 14, 1878. DeKalb Avenue was renamed Ridgewood in June 1882. From the Greenpoint Terminal it took 15 minutes to get here. The station closed with the end of passenger service in 1894.

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a 350-bed teaching hospital located in the Wyckoff Heights section of Bushwick, Brooklyn in New York City. The hospital is an academic affiliate of the NewYork-Presbyterian's Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, the New York Medical College and New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. The primary goal of the center is to train future physicians that are qualified medically and personably.

The DeKalb Avenue station is a station on the BMT Canarsie Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Wyckoff and DeKalb Avenues in Bushwick, Brooklyn, it is served by the L train at all times.

The 83rd Precinct Police Station and Stable is a historic police station and stable located at the corner of DeKalb and Wilson Avenues in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York City. It was built in 1894 in the Romanesque Revival style to a design by William Tubby.It was designated a landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1977, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It currently houses NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North.

Myrtle Avenue was a train station along the Evergreen Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. The station opened on May 16, 1878, at Myrtle Avenue and Gates Avenue. From the Greenpoint Terminal it took 18 minutes to get here and Myrtle Avenue was 3.26 miles away from Greenpoint Terminal. The station was located under the present-day Myrtle Avenue El. The station closed with the end of passenger service in May 1882.

Radio Free Brooklyn (RFB) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that operates a freeform internet radio station headquartered at 199 Cook Street in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The station currently offers 78 original radio programs produced by members of the organization, including 63 weekly live broadcasts originating from their Brooklyn studio. The station also airs two syndicated programs: Democracy Now! and The BradCast.

Academy of Urban Planning (AUP) is a small public high school in Brooklyn, New York on the campus of Bushwick High School. It shares a building with Academy of Environmental Leadership, Bushwick School for Social Justice, and New York Harbor School. It was established in 2003 as a partnership between the New York City Department of Education and New Visions for Public Schools, a nonprofit organization promoting educational reform. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, New Visions transformed failing New York City high schools into smaller, more specialized learning communities. AUP was founded by parents, teachers, students and staff from the school's lead partner, Center for the Urban Environment.As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had 280 students and 21.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.8:1. 267 students (95.4% of enrollment) were eligible for free lunch and 8 (2.9% of students) for reduced-cost lunch.Through the school's theme of urban planning, students take a sequence of courses including art, architecture and urban design, urban sociology, Geographic Information Systems and a senior seminar in democracy and leadership. The school also offers advanced placement courses in English literature, statistics, human geography and Latino studies. AUP offers students the opportunity to participate in the arts, community service, mentoring, college planning and community advocacy. AUP has been featured in local and national media including MTV's Thinkover Your School, US News and World Report, New York Daily News, Newsday, The Bushwick Observer, EL Diario and News 12. In 2005, AUP received the William H. T. Whyte award for innovation in urban planning. AUP students' work has been exhibited at the Municipal Art Society and the Brooklyn Historical Society.

The Central Avenue station is a station on the BMT Myrtle Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at Myrtle Avenue and Cedar Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn, it is served by the M train at all times.

Maria Hernandez Park is a municipal park in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York City. It is located between Knickerbocker Avenue on the southwest to Irving Avenue on the northeast, and Starr Street on the northwest to Suydam Street on the southeast. The park is 6.87 acres (2.78 ha) and is near the Jefferson Street station of the New York City Subway (L train). The park has four wheelchair-accessible entrances. It has a newly-renovated basketball court, handball court, fitness equipment, spray showers and benches, and a newly built performance stage. The playground was rebuilt with brand new equipment as a result of funds from the mayor and the city council.
