Jugla, Riga

Mežciems is a neighbourhood of Riga, Latvia. It is located in the eastern part of the city in the Vidzeme Suburb. The name is literally translated from Latvian as forest village. Mežciems is encircled by the Šmerlis and Jugla Forests. Lake Gaiļezers is located at the northern part of the neighbourhood. In its beginnings Mežciems was part of Dreiliņi county characterized by single-family houses.The northern part of Mežciems was included in Riga in 1934. The southern part of Mežciems was included in the city in 1974. Project of the new residential neighbourhood for 15000 people was finished in 1971. Majority of apartment blocks was constructed between 1975 and 1986. Originally the new apartments was granted to artists, medics and factory workers.

Šmerlis is a forest in Riga, Latvia. It is home to Riga Film Studio. Šmerlis can be accessed by trolleybus routes 4 and 16, as well as tram routes 1,3, and 6. Šmerlis is also the site of the only remaining Jewish cemetery in Riga.

Riga Motor Museum (Latvian: Rīgas motormuzejs) is the biggest antique vehicle museum in the Baltic countries, located in Riga, Latvia. The museum is a state agency operating under the Republic of Latvia Ministry of Transport. Since 1992, the museum is a member of International Association of Transport and Communication Museums (IATM–ICOM), since 1994 a member of Latvian Museum Association, since 2002 – a member of Latvian Transport Development and Education Association. The museum is located at 6 Sergeja Eizenšteina Street in the Mežciems neighbourhood of Riga. The museum also features a café and a sports club. The museum was founded in 1989 on an initiative from Latvia Antique Automobile club (AAK)[1]. The building was designed by the Latgyprogorstroy architect Viktors Valgums. Since 1992 it is a state museum. In 2013 the museum closed for reconstruction works. All vehicles were moved to temporary museum location in Rāmava. In 2 July 2016 the museum opened after reconstruction for everyone.

St. Catherine's Lutheran Church (Latvian: Svētās Katrīnas Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca), also known as Biķeri or Biķernieki church for its location, is a Lutheran church in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is a parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. The church is situated at the address 146 Biķernieku Street.

Biķernieki Complex Sports Base is a racing circuit and cross-country skiing course in the Biķernieki Forest in Riga. Adjacent to the racing circuit is the Riga Speedway Stadium.

The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia (Latvian: Latvijas Etnogrāfiskais brīvdabas muzejs) is an open-air museum located just outside Riga, the capital of Latvia, on the lightly wooded shores of Jugla Lake.

Bukulti is a neighbourhood of Riga, the capital of Latvia, located in the northeastern part of the Vidzeme Suburb.

Vidzeme District (Latvian: Vidzemes priekšpilsēta) is one of six administrative districts of Riga, the capital of Latvia.

Dreiliņi is a newly built neighbourhood on the eastern edge of Riga, Latvia within the Vidzeme Suburb. It lies within the borders of Augusta Deglava, Baltinavas, Dzilnas and Ēvalda Valtera streets. Some country-style homes existed here (on Baltinavas street), but it was planned to expand this part of the city by building nine story concrete block apartments. Construction started in the late 1980s, but the first inhabitants only moved there in 2004. The buildings stood empty for more than 15 years, before the first part of this neighbourhood was finally completed in late 2006. Today, Dreiliņi is experiencing its 'second birth', as the Riga City Council has decided to build a new route for Augusta Deglava street. It is currently under construction, and it will pass directly near Dreiliņi, and will become a part of a planned Eastern motorway.

The Dünamünde Action (Aktion Dünamünde) was an operation launched by the Nazi German occupying force and local collaborationists in Biķernieki forest, near Riga, Latvia. Its objective was to execute Jews who had recently been deported to Latvia from Germany, Austria, Bohemia and Moravia. These murders are sometimes separated into the First Dünamünde Action, occurring on March 15, 1942, and the Second Dünamünde Action on March 26, 1942. About 1,900 people were killed in the first action and 1,840 in the second. The victims were lured to their deaths by a false promise that they would receive easier work at a (non-existent) resettlement facility near a former neighbourhood in Latvia called Daugavgrīva (Dünamünde). Rather than being transported to a new facility, they were trucked to woods north of Riga, shot, and buried in previously dug mass graves. The elderly, the sick and children predominated among the victims.

Dreiliņi is a village in Stopiņi Parish, Ropaži Municipality in the Vidzeme region and the Riga Planning Region of Latvia. From 2009 until 2021, it was part of the former Stopiņi Municipality. Artist Burkards Dzenis was born in Dreiliņi. According to the September 2023 decision of the Ropaži County regarding the expansion of the territory of the large village of Ulbroka, Dreiliņi is located south of the P4 highway. The territory also includes the village of new private houses Saulīši.

Jugla Lake (Latvian: Juglas ezers) is a large and scenic urban lake in Jugla, Riga, Latvia. The lake has popular beaches in the summer and ice fishing in the winter.The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia is an open-air museum, situated in a forest park area beside Jugla Lake.
