Carbury Castle, County Kildare

Carbury (Irish: Cairbre), also formerly spelt "Carbery", is a rural community and a village in north-west County Kildare, Ireland. It is situated on the R402 regional road between Enfield and Edenderry, near the border with County Offaly, and includes the smaller hamlets of Derrinturn, Ticknevin and Killina along the Grand Canal (Ireland). The source of the River Boyne is located just north of the village. The village is in a townland and civil parish of the same name.

Derrinturn (Irish: Doire an tSoirn, meaning 'oak wood of the furnace') is a village in County Kildare, Ireland. It is part of the parish of Carbury. It is located about 60 km (37 mi) from Dublin. The main road through Derrinturn is the R403 regional road. The population was 1,837 as of the 2022 census, an increase of 1000% from 1961 when only 183 people lived in the village. Derrinturn has one Roman Catholic church and a primary school St. Conleth's (Naomh Connlaodh). Derrinturn townland has an area of 132.40 hectares (327.2 acres). It borders the townlands of Ballyhagan to the west, Ballyshannon to the east, Coonagh to the east, Dreenan to the south, Newbury Demesne to the north, and Rathmore to the south.

Clogherinkoe GFC is a Gaelic football club in County Kildare, Ireland, the first junior C champions to qualify for the Jack Higgins Cup final. They formed an area team with Johnstownbridge, St John's, which reached the semi-final of the senior football championship in 1978. Padraig Gravin was corner-forward on the 1998 Kildare All Ireland final team. Pat Tyrrell was a noted Kildare forward in the 1960s. John Lowry and John Donoghue were major players for the team throughout the 80's and 90's. Both played on the Kildare senior team for several seasons. These days the club now includes well known names such Aedan Boyle and Jack Robinson. Won an intermediate final v Kilcock in 2020 under the management of Ronan Quinn, Seamus Galligan and Jim Kelly. Currently competing at senior level under the new management of Mark Murnaghan. Amalgamated at underage with Johnstownbridge to form Balyna Juvenile Club.

Broadford is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winners of two senior hurling and 16 senior camogie titles. It enlists players from a radius of twenty miles from the Boyne bridge in Edenderry, Leinster bridge in Clonard, Blackwater bridge in Enfield and Barney Bridge in Allenwood. Mick Moore was selected at full-forward on the Kildare hurling team of the millennium.

Carbury GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 11 Kildare county senior football championships and participants in eight successive county finals between 1965 and 1972. Ollie Crinnigan and (an All Star in 1978) and Pat Mangan (replacement All Star on two occasions) were on the Kildare football team of the millennium.

Ticknevin (Irish: Tigh Mhic Neamhain) is a townland in the parish of Carbury in County Kildare, Ireland. The Grand Canal runs through Ticknevin and the 20th canal lock is located there. There is also a humpback bridge which was built by the English engineer Thomas Hartley in the 18th century.

The Battle of Clonard occurred on 11 July 1798 near Leinster Bridge in the town of Clonard, County Meath, during the Irish Rising of that year. A combined force of between 2,000 and 4,000 United Irishmen engaged a force of 27 British loyalist militia troops led by Lieutenant Thomas Tyrrell over 6 hours in an attempt to cross the River Boyne. The defenders held the fortified house until they were reinforced by a Sergeant and 11 men of the Northumberland Fencibles and 15 men of the Kinnegad Cavalry under the command and including Lt Edward Haughton when the rebels were routed and retreated to Carbury. The attack on Clonard was a disastrous failure and a severe blow to the surviving rebels. Many of the Kildare rebels returned to their homes while many of the Meath men were dissuaded from joining the rebellion by the defeat and due to much of their existing stocks of ammunition being wasted in the battle.

The Bog of Allen (Irish: Móin Alúine) is a large raised bog in the centre of Ireland between the rivers Liffey and Shannon. The bog's 958 square kilometres (370 square miles) stretch into counties Offaly, Meath, Kildare, Laois, and Westmeath. Peat is mechanically harvested on a large scale by Bórd na Móna, the government-owned peat production industry. The area has kilometres of narrow gauge industrial railways for transporting turf to processing plants and turf powered power plants. In addition, the cutover portions are used as area for grazing. The bog is crossed by the Grand Canal and the Royal Canal.

Edenderry Town Hall (Irish: Halla an Bhaile Éadan Doire) is a former municipal building on JKL Street in Edenderry, County Offaly, Ireland. It now operates as a business centre.

Edenderry (; Irish: Éadan Doire, meaning 'hill-brow of the oak wood') is a town in east County Offaly, Ireland. It is near the borders with Counties Kildare, Meath and Westmeath. The Grand Canal runs along the south of Edenderry, through the Bog of Allen, and there is a short spur to the town centre. The R401 road from Kinnegad to the north and the R402 from Enfield to the east meet at the northeastern end of the Main Street. At the Grand Canal they split, with the R402 continuing westwards towards Tullamore and the R401 heads south to Rathangan and Kildare Town.

Edenderry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Edenderry, County Offaly, Ireland. It participates in competitions organised by the Offaly GAA county board. The club fields both Gaelic football and hurling teams.

Ballyboggan Abbey, also known as Ballyboggan Priory, is a ruined monastic complex situated near the River Boyne in County Meath. The site is located 7.5 km south of Kinnegad; the R401 road to Edenderry passes nearby. Remaining structures include the abbey church's chancel, nave and a small portion of the south transept.
