Howell Township Public Schools

Eastern Air Lines Flight 935 was a scheduled commercial passenger flight operated by Eastern Air Lines. On September 22, 1981, the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar jet operating the flight suffered an uncontained engine failure which led to a loss of 3 out of the 4 hydraulic systems aboard the aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,000 m) MSL. The crew were able to land the aircraft safely to an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport with some limited use of the outboard spoilers, the inboard ailerons and the horizontal stabilizer, plus differential engine power of the remaining two engines. There were no injuries.

Squankum (Lenape for "place of evil ghosts" or "place where evil spirits dwell") is an unincorporated community located within Howell Township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The name Squankum was used for a town in Gloucester County, which was changed to present day Williamstown (see note above), due to postal regulations that prohibited the two towns from having the same name.

Howell High School (HHS) is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades located in Howell Township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as one of six secondary schools of the Freehold Regional High School District. The school serves all students from Farmingdale and those from some portions of Howell Township. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1970. Although located in Howell, the school has a Farmingdale mailing address. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,055 students and 133.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.4:1. There were 162 students (7.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 44 (2.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school hosts the Fine & Performing Arts Center (FPAC) and the Scholars' Center for the Humanities.Blue and gray are the school colors, although originally all schools in the district had blue and gold as the school colors at least until the late 1970s. This was originally done so the district could attempt to realize some cost savings on uniforms for extracurriculars.

Lower Squankum is an unincorporated community located within Howell Township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The settlement is located along Lakewood-Farmingdale Road (County Route 547) at its intersection with Herbertsville Road (CR 549) and Old Tavern Road (CR 21) in the eastern side of the township. It is also located near the boundary of Allaire State Park and is south of Interstate 195's exit 31. Nearby the community are the remains of the Lower Squankum Mill and the Lower Squankum Friends Burial Site, located within the median of CR 547 at the aforementioned interchange.

Bog Creek Farm, located in Howell Township, New Jersey, is a designated Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund site. Lying on 12 acres of land, Bog Creek Farm is home to several hazardous and life-threatening contamination beginning in 1973 and continuing for a year. Over a decade later, actions began to take place to clean and restore the contaminated soil and water. Bog Creek Farm is situated near several other farms that house horses, growing crops and flowers, and livestock. Less than a mile down the road lies Allaire State Park, a park used by golfers, hunters, and fisherman.

Farmingdale is a borough in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 1,504, an increase of 175 (+13.2%) from the 2010 census count of 1,329, which in turn reflected a decline of 258 (−16.3%) from the 1,587 counted in the 2000 census.Farmingdale was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 8, 1903, from portions of Howell Township. The borough is named for its location at the center of an agricultural area.

The Farmingdale School District is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from Farmingdale in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of one school, had an enrollment of 160 students and 24.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 6.6:1. In the 2016–17 school year, Farmingdale had the 34th-smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 161 students.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "DE", the fifth-highest of eight groupings. The school is part of the Freehold Regional High School District, which also serves students from Colts Neck Township, Englishtown, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Manalapan Township and Marlboro. As of the 2020–21 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 2,094 students and 134.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.6:1.

Maxim is an unincorporated community located within Howell Township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area, just southwest of the Squankum takes its name from the Maxim Powder Company and its founder, Hudson Maxim, who developed a plant there in 1890.

Allaire State Park is a park located in Howell and in Wall Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States, near the borough of Farmingdale, operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route. The park is known for its restored 19th century ironworks, Allaire Village, on the park premises. It is named after James P. Allaire, founder of the Howell Works at the same site. The park also hosts the Pine Creek Railroad, a tourist railroad. The park, which is located in the coastal plain geographic region of New Jersey, is an example of podzolic soils. These soils are high in iron particle content and are fairly acidic. Picnic facilities including charcoal grills, tables, playgrounds and sanitary facilities are available within the developed area of the park. The Manasquan River flows eastward through the park, seasonal canoe rentals are offered offsite by private vendors. The Manasquan River is classified as fresh water within the park and requires a fishing license. The park charges an entrance fee on weekends in the summer.

Allaire Village is a living history museum located within New Jersey's Allaire State Park in Wall Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The property was initially an Indian ceremonial ground prior to 1650, by 1750 a sawmill had been established on the property by Issac Palmer. The village was later established as a bog iron furnace originally known as Williamsburg Forge 'Monmouth Furnace' was then renamed the Howell Works by Benjamin B. Howell. In 1822, it was then purchased by philanthropist James P. Allaire, who endeavoured to turn into a self-contained community. The wood burning furnace business collapsed in 1846 and the village closed. During its height, the town supported about 500 people. Following his death, the property passed through a number of family members before being used by the Boy Scouts who started to restore the buildings for use as a summer camp. Losing the lease, the property then passed to the State of New Jersey. Allaire Village and its existing buildings are now operated by a non-profit organization - Allaire Village, Inc. Historic interpreters work using period tools and equipment in the blacksmith, tinsmith, and carpentry shops, while the old bakery sells cookies, and general store serves as a museum gift-shop styled store. The church building is frequently used for weddings. The site is also host to community events such as community band concerts, antique sales, weekly flea markets and square dance competitions.

West Farms is an unincorporated community located within Howell Township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The settlement is centered on the intersection of West Farms Road and Casino Drive, located to the west of Farmingdale and to the north of the Manasquan Reservoir. It was once home Jewish farmers who settled there in the early 20th century. The rural area is mostly made up of wooded areas with some houses and churches dotted along the two aforementioned roads. Numerous small farms are also located throughout the area.

Howell Township is a township in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The township is the largest municipality in the county by total area, comprised of about 61.21 square miles (158.5 km2). It is located in the New York metropolitan area and has been a steadily growing bedroom community of New York City. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 53,537, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 2,462 (+4.8%) from the 2010 census count of 51,075, which in turn reflected an increase of 2,172 (+4.4%) from the 48,903 counted in the 2000 census.
