Birkby is a large multi-cultural suburb close to the town centre in Huddersfield, in the Kirklees borough of West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 6,700.An affluent suburb during Victorian times, Birkby sits in the Grimescar Valley, a greenbelt area of Huddersfield. Greenhead Park is an urban park located 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west of the town centre of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is one of the largest parks in Huddersfield and was originally opened in 1884. It is an English Heritage grade II listed property and is also in a Conservation Area. It is a very popular park, attracting an estimated 250,000 visitors each year. It is popular with visitors from all walks of life, including students at lunchtime from the local colleges—Greenhead College and Kirklees College. The park features tennis courts, a skate park, play area and the last remaining paddling pool in Kirklees. Greenhead Park is also home to Huddersfield Pétanque Club.

A report, for instance, described the workhouse as "wholly unfitted for residence for the many scores that are continually crowded into it, unless it be that desire to engender endemic and fatal disease. And this Huddersfield workhouse is by far the best in the whole union."On investigation, the conditions at Huddersfield were considered to be worse than those in Andover which had hit the headlines in Britain two years earlier. This previous scandal gained notoriety due to extreme abuses with accounts citing workhouse inmates getting so hungry they had resorted to chewing on the bones that they were grinding down for fertilizer. These two incidents contributed to the growth of demands for social reform as reflected by later developments such as the intensified public discourse on the Poor Law.

With over 2,700 students, it is a large sixth form college, attracting students from as far afield as Wakefield, Manchester, Barnsley, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Wetherby and even Wales. It is located next to Greenhead Park which is one of the largest parks in Huddersfield.

Huddersfield Grammar School is a coeducational independent school located in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. The school was established in 1995 on the site of the former independent St David's School, which closed on 1 September 1995. St David's school had been purchased and merged with the former independent Kayes College in 1995 Since 2007 the school has been owned and operated by the Cognita Group. It is the largest independent school in Huddersfield to offer both primary and secondary education. In 2014, Cognita invested £3.5 million at Huddersfield Grammar School to further enhance the school's site and facilities.

Paddock is a district of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated 1-mile (1.6 km) to the south-west of the town centre.The Paddock Ward had a population of 14,875 according to the 2001 Census.Paddock's secondary school, Royds Hall, was attended by the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Harold Wilson. A 2017 Ofsted report found that the school had over 1,100 students.

Longroyd Bridge is a suburb approximately 1200 yds (1.1 km) to the southwest of Huddersfield town centre, West Yorkshire, England. The area is composed of industrial and commercial units. There is little housing in the commercial area, though within a few hundred yards are the housing areas of Thornton Lodge and Paddock. The dominating feature of the area is the viaduct carrying the Sheffield—Huddersfield Penistone Line railway over the valley of the River Colne from the station at Lockwood to Springwood Junction and tunnel where the line continues under Greenhead to arrive at Huddersfield railway station. Longroyd Bridge is where the A62, Manchester Road, route to Manchester passes over the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the River Colne, it then travels down through the Colne Valley passing Milnsbridge, Linthwaite, and Slaithwaite to Marsden before crossing the Pennine hills to Oldham and Manchester. The Huddersfield Narrow canal has been extensively reconstructed over the last few years, with long infilled stretches dug out again. In places this has required major civil engineering work to route the canal under buildings that had been constructed over the canal when it became disused. Also to replace newly constructed lock gates. Within the first year after re-opening the canal drained out, unexpectedly, leaving some narrowboats and leisure craft stranded for several days. Then again in early 2009 there was a leak, which again stranded boats.

St Patrick's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. It serves the Parish of the Holy Redeemer in the Deanery of Huddersfield, in the Diocese of Leeds. Built in 1832 for use as a parish church, it was designed by Joseph Kaye, an architect from Bradford. It is situated on the junction between New North Road and Castlegate in the centre of the town. It is a Grade II listed building.
