Hillcrest High School is a four-year public high school located in the neighborhood of Jamaica Hills, Queens. The school is operated by the New York City Department of Education. As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 3,289 students and 149.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 22.0:1. There were 2,380 students (72.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 311 (9.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The mascot is the hawk (changed from the Braves, the original mascot chosen when the school opened in 1971) and the school colors are violet and gray. The school's boys and girls' soccer team became division champions in the 06/07 and also the 07/08 season guided by Coach Asqui and captain Joao Azevedo. The school is also notable for its rigorous baseball program led by Coach Malave. Stephen M. Duch was the school principal from 1996 to the beginning of 2014. In 2002 the school was listed as the most violent high school in the city. After his retirement, David T. Morrison, a graduate of Hillcrest and who served as the AP of English for several years, became the new principal.

The Young Women's Leadership School of Queens (TYWLS) is a public girls' high school and middle school located in Jamaica, Queens, New York City. The school is administered by the New York City Department of Education. Since 2013 Mala Panday has been the principal and the assistant principals are Jennifer Pineda and George Díaz. The school has Advisory, a class for individual talking and sharing feelings. In this class, students are free to speak their minds confidentially. In addition to the state required course load, TYWLS of Queens also offers multiple advanced placement (AP) courses as well as an array of after school clubs. The school is located on 87th Road near Parsons Boulevard and Hillside Avenue, in the former Jamaica Jewish Center building. The building was built in 1928, and renovated in 1998 in order to convert it into a school building.There are four other schools in New York City with the title Young Women's Leadership School, in Harlem, Brooklyn, Astoria, and the Bronx. The school in Harlem is the charter school.

Mary Immaculate Hospital is a former hospital in Queens, NY. It was part of the Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center network An attempt to save the hospital was made the hospital with a purchase by Jamaica Hospital.

Grace Episcopal Church Complex is a historic Episcopal church complex at 155-15 Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, in U.S. state of New York. The complex includes the church, parish house, and cemetery. The church was built between 1861 and 1862. It is constructed of rough-cut sandstone and features a steeply pitched roof and tall, sharp spire in the Gothic Revival style. A chancel, designed by Cady, Berg & See, was added at the rear of the church in 1901-1902. The parish house, known as Grace Memorial House, was built in 1912. It is three-story brick building in the Tudor Revival style. The surrounding cemetery includes burials dating to 1734, when the church located at this site. Notable interments include Rufus King (1755–1827), Charles King (1789–1867) and William Duer (1743–1799).

Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Building is a historic office building located in the Jamaica section of the New York City borough of Queens. It was designed in 1928 by George W. Conable (1866-1933) and is a ten-story, "T" shaped building in the Colonial Revival style.

La Casina is a historic commercial building located in Jamaica, Queens. New York City. It was originally built about 1907 and completely redesigned about 1936 in the Streamline Moderne style. It is a one-story building designed for use as a nightclub. It has a streamlined facade in the form of a stepped pyramid or ziggurat. The building retains its original vertical neon sign. From the 1940s through 1987, the building housed a clothing factory.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and a New York City Landmark in 1996.

King Manor, also known as the Rufus King House, is a historic house at 150th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, Queens, New York City. It was the home of Founding Father Rufus King, a signatory of the United States Constitution, New York state senator, and ambassador to Great Britain immediately after the American Revolution. Descendants of King's family lived in the house until 1896 when Rufus' granddaughter Cornelia King died and the house was sold to the Village of Jamaica. When the western half of Queens, including Jamaica, became part of the City of Greater New York, the house and the property were turned over to the New York City Parks Department which redesignated the land as Rufus King Park. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974.

The First Reformed Church is a historic Reformed church in the Jamaica neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. The church was built in 1859. The church has an early romanesque structure that was designed by Sidney J. Young and built by Anders Peterson. The First Reformed Church has been refurbished as part of the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. The asymmetrical towers, round-arched openings, and corbel tables are examples of an architectural style known as Rundbogenstil.The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and a New York City Landmark in 1996.

US Post Office-Jamaica Main is a historic post office building located at the northwest corner of 164th Street and 89th Avenue in Jamaica in Queens County, New York, United States. It serves the 11432 ZIP Code. It was built in 1932–1934, and is one of two post offices in New York City designed by the architects Cross & Cross as a consultant to the Office of the Supervising Architect. The building is a two-story brick building on a light gray granite base with marble trim in the Colonial Revival style. It features a handsome marble portico supported by four Ionic order columns. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

On October 23, 2014, a hatchet-wielding man, Zale H. Thompson, attacked four New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers on a crowded sidewalk in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York City. Officer Kenneth Healey was struck in the head, while Officer Joseph Meeker was injured in the arm. Also injured was a female civilian, who was struck by a stray bullet when two other officers shot and killed the perpetrator. Investigators discovered that Thompson was a recent Muslim convert. His attack was classified as an act of terrorism.

The 160th Street station was a station on the demolished section of the BMT Jamaica Line in Queens, New York City.

The Children's Library Discovery Center, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, is an addition to the Queens Central Library building. It was commissioned by the New York City Department of Design & Construction and completed in 2011 under the New York City Design and Construction Excellence program.The center is the Queens Borough Public Library system's largest facility. With a $1.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the center recruited specialists from the Exploratorium in San Francisco to design hands-on "discovery stations". The stations, geared toward children ages 3–12, introduce them to diverse topics such as weather, music, and nanotechnology. According to Queens Library CEO Thomas Galante, the embedding of museum-like exhibits into a reading space as exemplified by the center is unique among public libraries in the United States.The 22,000-square-foot, two-story building was designed by 1100 Architect, with graphics and wayfinding designed by Lee H. Skolnick Architecture & Design Partnership. The exterior is a conspicuous glass façade scaled to match the existing mix of low-rises in the neighborhood.
