Milton (provincial electoral district)

Milton is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that consists of the town of Milton and part of Burlington which has a population growing much faster than the Ontario average. It was created by the 2012 federal redistribution and previously part of Halton. Redistributed results showed that Conservative Lisa Raitt won the area easily in 2011, although her vote share dropped in the 2015 election and the Liberals took the riding in 2019. Since 2019 it has been represented by Liberal Adam van Koeverden.

Mill Pond is a manmade freshwater reservoir in downtown Milton, Ontario, Canada.The pond is located on the main street of downtown Milton, a suburban town north of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Halton. Halton is the west wing of Greater Toronto Area bordering Niagara escapement to the west. The pond powered a gristmill for almost a century, within which time a pioneering settlement grew up to be the town of Milton around the pond and the mill.

The Regional Municipality of Halton, or Halton Region, is a regional municipality in Ontario, Canada, located in the Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario. It comprises the city of Burlington and the towns of Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills. Policing in the Region is provided by the Halton Regional Police Service. The regional council's headquarters are located in Oakville. Burlington, Oakville, and Milton are largely urban and suburban, while Halton Hills is more rural. Halton is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), although it is the only regional municipality in the GTA that is not situated directly adjacent to Toronto’s city proper. However, the region is split between the census metropolitan areas (CMAs) of Toronto and Hamilton. Burlington is part of the Hamilton CMA, while the rest of the region is part of the Toronto CMA. Halton experienced a growth rate of 17.1% between 2001 and 2006, and 14.2% between 2006 and 2011, giving it one of the highest growth rates in the country. Despite the unprecedented growth in residential development, agriculture and protected lands along the Niagara Escarpment are still the predominant land uses in the region. Halton has been ranked by Maclean's national crime ranking report as being the "safest place to live" in the GTA and one of the top five in Canada.

Milton (2021 census population 132,979) is a town in Southern Ontario, Canada, and part of the Halton Region in the Greater Toronto Area. Between 2001 and 2011, Milton was the fastest growing municipality in Canada, with a 71.4% increase in population from 2001 to 2006 and another 56.5% increase from 2006 to 2011. In 2016, Milton's census population was 110,128 with an estimated growth to 228,000 by 2031. It remained the fastest growing community in Ontario but was deemed to be the sixth fastest growing in Canada at that time.Consisting of 365 square kilometres (141 sq mi) of land area, Milton is located 40 km (25 mi) west of Downtown Toronto on Highway 401, and is the western terminus for the Milton line commuter train and bus corridor operated by GO Transit. Milton is situated on the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO world biosphere reserve and the Bruce Trail.

The Ernest C. Drury High School was a school in Milton, Ontario, Canada, for students in grades 9-12. The school closed in June 2012 and became Craig Kielburger Secondary School at a new location in Milton.The same campus also houses the E. C. Drury School for the Deaf, a secondary school with residential and day programs for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. The school also offers classes for the disabled, a day care center, several board offices, and numerous trade programs. This school was operated by the Provincial Schools branch of the Ministry of Education in Ontario. The Provincial schools will remain at their current address after June 2012 retaining the EC Drury name. The school was named after Ernest Charles Drury who was Premier of Ontario from 1919 to 1923.

Milton District High School (MDHS) is a public secondary school located in Milton, Ontario, Canada. MDHS is part of the Halton District School Board, and educates approximately 1800 students.Prior to Milton district high school's (second) opening in 1960, Students had attended the old Milton district high school on Martin street . When the new high school opened, grade 10 to 12 students were transferred there, and Martin Street School [1] became a high school, serving students in grade 9 only. MDHS remained the only secondary school in Milton until E.C. Drury High School opened in 1980, followed by Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School in 1986.

The Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf is a provincial school in Milton, Ontario, Canada with residential and day programs serving elementary and secondary deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Along with three (SJW and Robarts School for the Deaf) other provincial schools for the deaf in Ontario, it is operated by the Ministry of Education under Education Act of Ontario section 13 (1).Teachers are both deaf and hearing. Deaf student population is approximately 90 students in the senior school and 100 in the elementary school; total is 190 students. Deaf students from Canada often attend Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., and Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York for post-secondary programs.

The Vanier Centre for Women (French: Centre Vanier pour les femmes) in Milton, Ontario is a medium correctional facility for female offenders serving sentences of less than two years or who have been arrested and are remanded in custody awaiting trial. The institution has capacity for 333 inmates. Services for French-speaking people are offered at this facility.As it is a maximum-security provincial jail, immigration detainees may be held at the Vanier Centre under the Canadian Border Services Agency.The Vanier Centre is named after Pauline Vanier, a Canadian humanitarian and the wife of Georges Vanier, a former Governor General of Canada.

Maplehurst Correctional Complex (French: Complexe Correctionnel de Maplehurst) is a correctional facility located in Milton, Ontario for women and men 18 years of age and older. It is a combined maximum security detention centre for remanded prisoners, and medium/maximum correctional centre for offenders sentenced to less than two years. It used to have a separate wing for minors (12 to 17 years of age) but no longer houses them. It is also known colloquially as the "Milton Hilton" or "Muppethurst". In 1972, the government started a $13.5 million construction project for the Maplehurst Correctional Centre. It was completed in 1974 and continues to operate to this day. Sod was turned on the project on February 9, 1973.Maplehurst Correctional Complex was built in the mid-1970s as a replacement for several older facilities including the Milton Jail, Halton County Jail, and the Mimico Correctional Centre, although the latter ultimately remained open. John Main was the facility's first administrator (warden), and came over from Mimico.It was expanded in the late 1980s and again in the early 21st century.At the official opening of the $89 million modernization in 2001, the Ontario government described the complex as the first facility in Ontario's correctional system to feature a new design with pods: self-contained, 192-bed units where inmates spend their day - including program areas and an outdoor space for exercise. The complex is the size of 100 football fields and was the first of so-called "super-jails" in Ontario. General Population, Protective Population and Segregation/Hospital units are all housed within the facility. It shares its location with the adjacent Vanier Centre for Women, a 333-bed medium and maximum security facility for remanded and sentenced female offenders. The prison provides a variety of remedial programs, including life skills, addictions, anger management and Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Fifth Wheel Truck Stops was a chain of truck stops, with locations in Ontario, Manitoba and New Brunswick. They also offered motel service, restaurants, and truck/RV cleaning. The Milton location appeared in key scenes of the 1978 film High-Ballin'.

Milton GO Station is the western terminus of GO Transit's Milton line in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 780 Main Street East in the Town of Milton, near Main Street and Ontario Street.

Halton was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1988 before being abolished in an electoral district redistribution, and again from 1997 to 2015, when it was again abolished in another electoral district redistribution. When it was last contested in 2011, its population was 203,437, of whom 115,255 were eligible electors.
