The Mount Arlington School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade from Mount Arlington, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising two schools, had an enrollment of 362 students and 35.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.For ninth through twelfth grades, students attend Roxbury High School in Roxbury, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Roxbury School District. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 1,297 students and 125.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.3:1.

Mount Arlington is a borough in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 5,909, an increase of 859 (+17.0%) from the 2010 census count of 5,050, which in turn reflected an increase of 387 (+8.3%) from the 4,663 counted in the 2000 census.The borough is located on the southeast shore of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey's largest lake and a major recreational resource. Mount Arlington is home to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club.

Bertrand Island, New Jersey, is a small peninsula in Lake Hopatcong, part of the community of Mount Arlington. It is best known as the former site of the Bertrand Island Amusement Park which existed from prior to World War I as a picnic ground to 1983, as well as being the place of origin for Bette Cooper, Miss America 1937. In 1925, Bertland Island gained popularity as it offered 20 rides, including a rollercoaster and boardwalk games. As the Great Depression hit, Lake Hopatcong's main tourism industry also took a hit. In addition, the creation of electric refrigeration, which was the lake's second-largest industry, also collapsed in 1938. It marked the end of the hotel period. It is shaped somewhat like a spoon. On the "handle" part there are many upper-class condominiums, built in 2001. Where it gets wide and rounds out is a normal residential area. There is a boating club at the tip of the peninsula. Lake Hopatcong is rather visible from nearly everywhere on Bertrand Island. Scenes from Woody Allen's 1985 film The Purple Rose of Cairo were filmed on the site. A number of the scenes featuring Tom and Cecilia are set at the Amusement Park, which closed just prior to the film's production. Lake Hopatcong is easily seen in the background.

The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club is a private yacht club located in Mount Arlington, Morris County, New Jersey, United States, in the northwestern part of New Jersey, on the small peninsula of Bertrand Island along the state's largest lake, Lake Hopatcong. The club is non-profit, and governed by a slate of volunteers, elected by its members. The organization features an active sailing and social schedule, with an emphasis on activities for the entire family.

Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in New Jersey, United States, about 4 square miles (10 km2) in area. Located 30 miles (48 km) from the Delaware River and 40 miles (64 km) from Manhattan, New York City, the lake forms part of the border between Sussex and Morris counties in the state's northern highlands region. Lake Hopatcong was produced by damming and flooding of two ponds, known as the Great Pond and Little Pond, and the Musconetcong River, its natural outlet. Historically known as a resort lake for vacationing New Yorkers, it is now a mostly suburban residential lake.

The Hopatcong Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Hopatcong, in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of four schools, had an enrollment of 1,449 students and 146.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.9:1.To address a significant reduction in state aid, Hudson Maxim School, which had served grades PreK-1, was closed at the end of the 2018-19 school year. For the 2019-20 school year, the grades were reconfigured across the remaining four school facilities.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. Lookout Mountain is a mountain in Sussex County, New Jersey. The summit rises to 1,165 feet (355 m), and is located in the Borough of Hopatcong, overlooking the River Styx, a bay of Lake Hopatcong. It is part of the New York–New Jersey Highlands of the Appalachian Mountains.

Raccoon Island is an island on Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey, comprising about 50 acres (20 ha) with mixed private homes and lots. It is part of Jefferson Township, in Morris County, New Jersey. Seasonal (April–October), limited scheduled ferry service provides access to the island by car or light truck. With this limited accessibility, few people live year-round on the island, but during the summer months many families from the surrounding area temporarily "relocate" and commute to their work from there. The homes range from small cottages that were built from the 1880s onwards to more contemporary and remodeled homes with sizable lots. There is no public land on the island. In the late 19th century, paddle-wheel boats used to provide transportation links from mainland railway stations to resort hotels and campsites on the island. It was a summer tourist destination for New York City residents (45 miles (72 km) east) before expanded auto and boat transportation made more exotic travel feasible.

Lower Berkshire Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Roxbury and Jefferson townships, Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is primarily in the northeast part of Roxbury, along Berkshire Valley Road. Interstate 80 passes through the southern part of the CDP, but with no direct access. The community is 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Wharton and 4 miles (6 km) northwest of Dover. The community was first listed as a CDP during the 2020 census.

Lafayette School is a fieldstone schoolhouse built in 1921 and located at 79 Mill Road in the Lower Berkshire Valley section of Roxbury Township in Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 1, 2022, for its significance in architecture. Designed by the architectural firm of Rasmussen & Wayland (William Whitney Rasmussen and Harry C. Wayland) from New York City, the school features American Craftsman style.

Bertrand Island Amusement Park was located on Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey in the Borough of Mount Arlington, New Jersey. It was actually located on a narrow finger-shaped peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides, that jutted into Lake Hopatcong. The park began as a bathing beach and soon started adding amusements in the 1910s when a connection was constructed via a trolley by the Morris County Traction Company. Later, during the 1920s, it was expanded by the owner, Louis Kraus, and ultimately included some 20 rides including a wooden roller coaster, an airplane swing, bumper cars, picnic areas, a Skee-Ball arcade, dance hall, and a cafeteria. It was located on the beach, and had a diving tower and boat docks. Its carousel for many years was a famous Illions Monarch II Supreme which was later sold to Circus World in Florida. Bertrand Island Amusement Park operated for over 70 years, but finally was closed in 1983, due to the competition from larger theme parks and Lake Hopatcong's evolution to an all-year-round community. In 2001, the area was developed into townhouses.[1]A narrated history of Bertrand Island Park with video footage and many photographs was completed by the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum. The museum also has an exhibit on Bertrand Island Park featuring many items from the park.
