St. Catherine's Montessori is a Catholic Montessori School in Houston, Texas. St. Catherine's educates children ages 14 months to 18 years. The school is part of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Playland Park was an amusement park formerly located in San Antonio, Texas. Playland Park opened in 1943 and was owned by Jimmy Johnson. Prior to this it operated as a small venue at Brackenridge Park. It was the original home of The Rocket, a popular wooden roller coaster currently located at Knoebels Amusement Resort. Ed Gaida, who lived at Playland Park and had access to records and archives, wrote a book about the park and its owner. Playland Park closed on September 1, 1980. For several decades, the original "Playland" sign stood at the original gate as the last remnant of the park. Today, the location is a campus of the Alamo Colleges District and no trace remains of the original park. Playland Park of San Antonio, Texas should not be confused with Playland Park of Houston, Texas which operated around the same time and had a wooden roller coaster similarly named The Skyrocket. These two parks operated independently of each other.

Playland Park was an amusement park located in Houston, Texas operating between 1940 and 1967. Louis Slusky opened Playland Park in 1940 at 9200 South Main. It is remembered for its wooden roller coaster, Giant Skyrocket. Texas' first elevated monorail train briefly operated near the park. Next to the park was an adjoining stock-car racetrack known as Playland Speedway. Playland Park closed in 1967. Playland Park, Houston should not be confused with the Playland Park located in San Antonio, Texas which opened around the same time and had a wooden roller coaster similarly named The Rocket.

Link Valley is a community in southwestern Houston, Texas that consists of many apartment complexes. In the late 1980s it was nicknamed "Death Valley" due to high levels of drug-related and violent crime. Since a 1989 raid Link Valley has not had significant criminal activity.

The Giant Skyrocket was a wooden roller coaster designed and built by Audley Ingersoll in 1924 for the now defunct Luna Park in Houston Texas. The roller coaster is significant for a variety of reasons. It is one of the largest roller coasters ever built and was Houston's first major roller coaster. It was later relocated to Houston's Playland Park with involvement by John A. Miller and H. S. Smith before ultimately being closed in the early 1960s.

The Emery/Weiner School (EWS) is a co-educational, independent Jewish day school in Houston, Texas, United States, serving grades 6-12. The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest. The campus is located on 15 acres (61,000 m2) of land, in Link Valley, a community in southwest Houston outside of the 610 Loop, inside Beltway 8, and east of the Westwood subdivision. The school houses 100,000 square feet (9,000 m2) of classroom space, along with several acres of accessible playing fields. Facilities include art, science, and computer labs, a proscenium theater, art and music studios, a multi-court gymnasium, library, football stadium and turf field, weight room, audio/visual room, a student center/cafeteria and a new makerspace known as the Levine Innovation Lab. Roselyn Bell, author of the "Houston" entry in The Jewish Traveler: Hadassah Magazine's Guide to the World's Jewish Communities and Sights, wrote around 1987 that the school, then the I. Weiner Jewish Secondary School, had a "centrist" viewpoint in regard to the Jewish religious movements.

Texas Cyclone was a wooden roller coaster at the defunct Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas. Designed by Don Rosser and William Cobb, it was manufactured by Frontier Construction Company and opened to the public on June 12, 1976. Well-known for its airtime, the roller coaster was 93 feet (28 m) tall, 3,180 feet (970 m) long, and had a ride time of two minutes and fifteen seconds. Texas Cyclone was modeled after the original Coney Island Cyclone, which AstroWorld had originally intended to purchase and move to their park before realizing the process would be too expensive.

On November 5, 2021, a fatal crowd crush occurred during the Astroworld Festival, an annual musical event hosted by American rapper Travis Scott. The event was hosted at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. Eight people were pronounced dead on the day of the incident, and two more died in the hospital over the following days. The Harris County medical examiner’s office declared the cause of death to be compressive asphyxiation, while the manner of death was ruled as an accident.On June 29, 2023, a Texas grand jury declined to indict Scott or anyone else associated with the concert.

Rock The Bayou was a four-day rock festival celebrating the 1980s rock scene. From Houston, Texas the inaugural show took place from Labor Day weekend, August 29–September 1, 2008 on the 100-acre (0.40 km2) former location of Houston's AstroWorld theme park and featured a variety of musical acts from genres such as hard rock, heavy metal, glam metal, and classic rock. The festival had more than 100 bands confirmed, contrary to initial estimates that 40 bands would be playing.

Six Flags AstroWorld, also known simply as AstroWorld, was a seasonally operated amusement park in Houston, Texas. Owned and operated by Six Flags, the park was situated between Kirby Drive and Fannin Street, directly south of I-610. The park opened on June 1, 1968, and was developed originally and constructed as part of the Astrodomain, the brainchild of local philanthropist and former Houston mayor Roy Hofheinz, who intended it to complement the Astrodome. The Hofheinz family sold AstroWorld to Six Flags in 1978. Notable rides featured at the park included the Texas Cyclone, a wooden roller coaster built in 1976 that was modeled after the well-known Coney Island Cyclone, and Thunder River, considered the world's first successful river rapids ride when it opened in 1980. WaterWorld, an adjacent water park, was acquired and added to AstroWorld in 2002. Following declining revenue, rising property value, and other issues facing Six Flags, the company closed AstroWorld permanently after its final day of operations on October 30, 2005, the final night of Fright Fest. Many rides were sold at auction or relocated to other Six Flags' properties, and demolition of the remaining structures was completed by mid-2006.

Southern Star Amphitheatre was an amphitheatre located at AstroWorld in Houston, Texas. It opened in the southeast corner of the theme park in 1985. The venue was frequented by notable performers including The Beach Boys and Kansas. Prior to the Southern Star opening, concerts were held in the same area on a flat field with the stage at the east end. The Southern Star saw a decline in the number of top-billed acts when the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion opened in 1990. Reserved seating was available and a grassy lawn was provided to guests with general admission. The venue closed along with the theme park in 2005.

Excalibur was a mine train roller coaster at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas. Built by Arrow Dynamics, the ride opened in 1972 as Dexter Frebish's Electric Roller Ride, until the name was changed in 1980. At the time of its closure, it was the 2nd oldest roller coaster at the park after Serpent.
