The house was built in 1757 by Johan George Achenbach and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 1979. The house was the home of Larry Blyden and Carol Haney in the 1960s. It was owned (but never occupied) by travel pioneer Mario Perillo until his death in 2003, and subsequently passed on to a trust in his son Stephen Perillo's name, who is the present owner. It was largely destroyed by fire in 2004, though a portion of the original structure remains intact as a guest cottage.

The New York Times described Saddle River as "a place where one can still keep horses—one per acre—see a deer, listen to the birds, and catch a fish in the trout stream that gives the town its name."As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 3,372, an increase of 220 (+7.0%) from the 2010 census count of 3,152, which in turn reflected a decline of 49 (−1.5%) from the 3,201 counted in the 2000 census.Saddle River is a dry town, where alcohol cannot be sold.

The Garret and Maria Ackerman House is located at 150 East Saddle River Road in the borough of Saddle River in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The historic frame house was built in 1824 and was documented as the Van Buskirk-Arkerman House by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1937. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1986, for its significance in architecture. It was listed as part of the Saddle River Multiple Property Submission (MPS). Thomas Van Buskirk gave the house to his daughter Maria when she married Garret A. Ackerman in 1824.

From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Public school students from Saddle River attend the Ramsey Public School District's middle school and then have the option of attending either Ramsey High School or Northern Highlands Regional High School as part of sending/receiving relationships with each of the respective districts. As of the 2018–19 school year, Northern Highlands High School had an enrollment of 1,377 students and 110.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.5:1. while Ramsey High School had an enrollment of 870 students and 80.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.8:1. One of under ten districts with a dual send-receive relationship, three quarters of Saddle River's high school students attend Northern Highlands and about a quarter attend Ramsey High School.

Tice Farms was a farm and roadside stand located in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Founded in 1808, it was a local landmark which attracted families from miles around, especially in the fall, when it was noted for pumpkins, apple cider, fresh hot donuts and other fall products. With its across-the-street rival, Van Ripers Farm, intense traffic problems developed on fall weekends. It was the original home of The Greenhouse of Fear, a NJ haunted attraction which ran during Halloween season at that location in the mid-1990s. Beginning in the 1970s, the farm was increasingly squeezed by local land development, and Richard Tice, the head of the family, repeatedly sold land to accommodate construction.The site of the farm buildings, on Chestnut Ridge Road, is now occupied by the Tice's Corner mall.
