Piazza Verdi, commonly known as Piazza Massimo, is a square of Palermo. At its centre is the sumptuous Teatro Massimo, the biggest opera house of Italy, and the third of Europe after the Opéra National de Paris and the K. K. Hof-Opernhaus in Vienna. The square is located in the heart of the city, near the central Via Maqueda, in the quarter of the Seralcadio, within the historic centre of Palermo. Piazza Verdi was created in 19th century in order to host the new opera house of Palermo.

The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is an opera house and opera company located on the Piazza Verdi in Palermo, Sicily. It was dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II. It is the biggest in Italy, and one of the largest of Europe (at the time of its inauguration, it was - with its area of 7730 m2 - the third largest opera house in Europe after the Palais Garnier in Paris, and the K. K. Hof-Opernhaus in Vienna), renowned for its perfect acoustics.

Santa Maria di Gesù (Italian) is a Baroque, Roman Catholic parish church in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. It faces piazza Beati Paoli al Capo in the Capo quarter. Documents assign the church first in 1489. It had been built adjacent to a church of San Rocco later Santi Cosma e Damiano. Documents list the church as belonging to the confraternity dei Neri, but by 1577, the church was affiliated with an order caring for orphan children. In 1648–49, it was granted to a congregation of Christian slaves, later to a confraternity ministering to porters conducting deliveries with animals. In 1660 it was refurbished under the dedication of Santa Maria di Gesù, but locally known as Santa Maruzza ri Canceddi. The facade and layout is simple. The nave ceiling has a fresco depicting Saint Zaccharias. Other frescoes depict events in the life of Mary.

Santa Maria delle Grazie di Montevergine (Holy Mary of the Graces) is a Baroque deconsecrated church in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. It is located on piazetta Montervergini. The church now functions as a theater: Teatro Nuovo Montevergini. The present edifice was constructed in 1698 to replace a smaller church from the 15th century. It was property of the adjacent former cloistered female Clarissan convent; the site of that former monastery is now the Institute "Filippo Parlatore" designed in the 19th century by Lorenzo Ciprì. The facade of the church was designed by A. Palma (1644-1730). The facade has two statues depicting Saints Clare and Rosalia. In the tympanum above the portal is the heraldic symbols of the Franciscan order, with two crossed arms before a Christian cross. The bell-tower was designed by G.Mariani (1681-1731), but completed by the engineer Del Frago. The single nave was frescoed by Guglielmo Borremans with a depiction of the Glory of the Franciscan Order (1721). Surrounding frescoes by Giuseppe Velasco depict the Lifes of Franciscan Saints. The suppression of the religious order in 1866 led to the suppression of the monastery ad removal of many of the interior artworks, including an Annunciation altarpiece by Pietro Novelli, now on display in the Museo Diocesano di Palermo.

Sant'Eulalia dei Catalani is a deconsecrated church, whose Renaissance facade can still be seen on Via Argenteria #19, at the edge of the lively Vucciria market in ancient quarter of Castellammare in central Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. In a niche in the small piazza in front of the church is a statue of the Genius of Palermo, sculpted by Pietro di Bonitate in 1483, and now called Palermu lu Grandi.

The Church of Saint Nympha (Italian: Chiesa di Santa Ninfa or Santa Ninfa dei Crociferi) is a Baroque-Mannerist church of Palermo. The facade rises on Via Maqueda, a block north of the central intersection known as the Quattro Canti, in the quarter of Seralcadi, within the historic centre of Palermo. The church belongs to the Camillians (also known as "Crociferi").

Sant'Ippolito Martire (Italian is a Baroque, Roman Catholic parish church in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. It is located on a busy street with markets, on via Porta Carini in the Capo quarter, across the street from the church of the Immacolata Concezione al Capo. A parish church at the site is first mentioned in 1308. In 1583, during the Spanish rule of Sicily, the church was expanded; but the present church is a product of a refurbishment started in 1717 using designs by Andrea Palma. His grandson, Nicolò Palma, helped restore the church in 1769 and a further refurbishment was performed in 1844 under Giovanni Patricolo, who directed some of the fresco decoration. The entrance portal has bas-reliefs of Saints Peter, Hippolytus, and Paul. The Latin Cross layout has three naves with lateral chapels. The nave ceiling has a fresco depicting Jesus in Lake Tiberius, retouched in the 1950s.

The Oratory of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (Italian: Oratorio di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria) is a Baroque oratory located attached to the church of Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella, in the quarter of the Castellammare of Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy.This oratory was built in 1726 under the patronage of the Confraternity of Santa Caterina, and supposedly set on the site of the former family home of Santa Rosalia. The interior stucco decoration was completed by Giacomo Serpotta and his son Procopio. In the vestibule is a depiction of The Mystical Marriage of St Catherine by Giuseppe Salerno. Flanking the entrance are allegorical statues of Knowledge and Science, two areas of study which the Jesuits wished to stress. Along the wall are small stucco dioramas with episodes of the life of St Catherine. The main altarpiece depicts the Martyrdom of St Catherine (1609) also by Salerno. The church also has a Renaissance painting depicting the Madonna and Child by Vincenzo da Pavia. The stalls for the members of the confraternity are also engraved with episodes of the life of St Catherine. Since 1946, the oratory has hosted the Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
