Worcester Chambers

The Canterbury Club is a historic gentlemen's club in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded by urban professionals in 1872 as a breakaway club from the Christchurch Club, which had been set up by large rural landholders in 1856.

Club Tower (also known as the Anthony Harper Tower, and formerly the HSBC Building) is a contemporary tower in the centre of Christchurch, New Zealand. Built in the late 2000s, it was the first building in Christchurch to receive a 5-star rating under the voluntary Green Star sustainability system, and was the first A-grade commercial building completed in the city since 1989. It received a national sustainability award in 2009 by Architectural Designers New Zealand. Club Tower gets its namesake from the neighbouring Canterbury Club, and was built on land purchased from the historical society. However, the tower has been colloquially known by the names of various tenants who have occupied the building over the years and acquired the rights to add their logos to the facade. Until 2017, it was known as the HSBC Building, and subsequently, the Anthony Harper Tower. Club Tower is considered one of the best performing structures in the city in terms of earthquake resilience, incurring no structural damage in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, and has been the subject of case studies on high-rise earthquake performance.

Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA, formerly the Canterbury Society of Arts) is a curated art gallery in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The gallery is administered by the Canterbury Society of Arts (CSA) Charitable Trust. Quarterly seasonal exhibitions are overseen by a curatorium of experts from New Zealand and overseas, headed by new Director and Principal Curator Paula Orrell. The gallery is focused on curating and commissioning artwork, rather than simply acquiring collections.

The Beth El Synagogue was a former Jewish congregation and synagogue, that was located at 78 Gloucester Street, in Christchurch, New Zealand. The first structure, a wooden synagogue, was completed in 1864. It was replaced by a stone building in 1881. The synagogue was demolished in 1987.

The German Church, also known as Deutsche Kirche and German Protestant Church, was a Lutheran church in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was built in 1872 when Christchurch had a growing German population. The church was confiscated in 1918 by the New Zealand Government and the church bells melted down in the aftermath of World War I when there were strong anti-German feelings in New Zealand. The church was demolished in 1933 and made way for a parish hall. The site of the Deutsche Kirche is today occupied by the Christchurch Art Gallery.

The Christchurch City Council is the local government authority for Christchurch in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the 396,200 people of Christchurch. Since October 2022, the Mayor of Christchurch is Phil Mauger, who succeeded after the retirement of Lianne Dalziel. The council currently consists of 16 councillors elected from sixteen wards, and is presided over by the mayor, who is elected at large. The number of elected members and ward boundaries changed prior during the 2016 election.

The Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, commonly known as the Christchurch Art Gallery, is the public art gallery of the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. It has its own substantial art collection and also presents a programme of New Zealand and international exhibitions. It is funded by Christchurch City Council. The gallery opened on 10 May 2003, replacing the city's previous public art gallery, the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, which had opened in 1932. The Māori elements of the name are explained as follows: Te Puna honours waipuna, the artesian spring beneath the gallery and Waiwhetu refers to one of the tributaries in the immediate vicinity, which flows into the River Avon. Waiwhetu may also be translated as ‘water in which stars are reflected’.

The Kate Sheppard National Memorial, located in the city of Christchurch, is New Zealand's first memorial to the women's suffrage campaign, and particularly honours the life of one of the country's leading campaigners for women's suffrage, Kate Sheppard.The idea for the memorial was raised in 1989 as part of plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in New Zealand in 1993. A committee was formed to select a design for the memorial, and the design of Dutch-born New Zealand artist Margriet Windhausen was chosen.The memorial is a stone aggregate wall, with a life size bronze relief sculpture of Sheppard and five other women's suffrage leaders. Panels on either side of the sculpture depict scenes of everyday women's lives at the end of the nineteenth century, and carry text describing the struggle for women's suffrage. The whole structure is approximately 5 metres (16 ft) wide and 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) tall. The women featured in the sculpture are (from left to right): Meri Mangakāhia of Te Tai Tokerau, who approached Te Kotahitanga (the Māori parliament) for women's suffrage Amey Daldy of the Auckland Woman's Christian Temperance Union. Kate Sheppard Ada Wells, a campaigner for girls' education Harriet Morison, an advocate for working women, also from Dunedin Helen Nicol, a women's suffrage campaigner who lived in DunedinThe group of women are depicted carrying their petition for women's suffrage to Parliament in a wooden cart. The memorial was unveiled on 19 September 1993, the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in New Zealand, by Dame Catherine Tizard, the Governor-General of New Zealand. A time capsule containing news articles and information on women's lives in 1993 was placed inside the monument.The memorial is located in a landscaped area known as the Kate Sheppard National Memorial Reserve, beside the Avon River and adjacent to a heritage building, Our City (the Old Municipal Chambers) near the corner of Worcester Street and Oxford Terrace. This building was damaged in the 2010 Canterbury earthquake and the memorial was behind barricades while the building was assessed. In a ceremony presided over by the Mayor of Christchurch, Lianne Dalziel, in June 2014, the memorial was liberated from the barricades and public access was restored.

Our City, more formally Our City O-Tautahi, also known as the Old Municipal Chambers, is a Queen Anne style building on the corner of Worcester Street and Oxford Terrace in the Christchurch Central City. It is a Category I heritage building registered with Heritage New Zealand. From 1887 to 1924 it was used by Christchurch City Council as their civic offices, providing room for meetings of the council and for housing staff, before they moved to the Civic. It was then used for many decades by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and served as the main tourist information. It was last used as an exhibition and events centre before being damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes.

The Statue of Robert Falcon Scott commemorates Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. It is located at the intersection of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street in the Christchurch Central City, New Zealand. The statue, carved by Scott's widow Kathleen Scott, is registered as a Category II historic place. The statue toppled off its plinth in the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake and broke in two; it was temporarily on display in the Christchurch Earthquake Museum in City Mall. The Scott statue was reinstated in October 2017.

Christchurch Central Library was a library in Central Christchurch and the main library of Christchurch City Libraries, New Zealand. It was the largest library in the South Island and the third-biggest in New Zealand. It opened in 1982 on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Gloucester Street but was closed on the day of the 22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The building was demolished in 2014 to make way for the Convention Centre Precinct. The replacement library, Tūranga, opened in 2018.

Rydges Hotel is a 14-storey-tall hotel building in Christchurch, New Zealand, that has been empty since the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes. Located just off Cathedral Square, it officially opened in 1975 as Noah's Hotel. The building fell into neglect after the earthquakes and was the subject of an insurance dispute spanning 12 years. It is currently being repaired and renovated and is scheduled to reopen in mid 2027 as Sheraton Christchurch.
