It was constructed for ship-builder Lars Larsen shortly after the creation of Kronprinsessegade in the early 1800s. It was listed in the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. Larsen resided in the building until his death in 1844. Other notable former residents include former chiefs of police Andreas Christian Kierulff and Cosmus Bræstrup.

Thje building owes its present Baroque Revival style facade to a carried out in 1912 by Gotfred Tvede for antiques dealer Carl Julius Petersen. Danske Kvinders Velfærd (DKV), a Christian-social organisation for women, was based in the building from 1925 to 1945.

St. Clare's Priory in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a short-lived community of nuns of the Order of Poor Clares, which lasted from 1497 to 1536. The monastic buildings then came into use as a mint, which after its decommissioning became known as the Old Mint, giving rise to the present day street name Gammel Mønt at the site.

Jazzhus Montmartre is a jazz club in Copenhagen, Denmark. Many jazz musicians, including Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, and Chet Baker, have performed there. It is sometimes called Cafe Montmartre. The Montmartre was located first in Dahlerupsgade, then from 1961 on Store Regnegade, and since 1976 at Nørregade 41 before closing down in 1995. In May 2010, it reopened at Store Regnegade 19A by media executive and entrepreneur Rune Bech and jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky, who was later replaced as music director by saxophonist Benjamin Koppel and then jazz publisher Christian Brorsen. In 2016, Swedish jazz pianist Jan Lundgren was appointed artistic director.

J. G Schwart & Søn was from 1806 to 1983 based at the site. The entire complex was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. Sværtegade 1 / Pilestræde 40 is a heritage listed building situated at the corner of Pilestræde and Sværtegade in the Old Town of Copenhagen, Denmark. Originally a two-storey building from the 1730s, constructed on the foundations of Christian IV's Canon Foundry, it was later heightened twice, first with one storey in 1812 and then with another one in 1850. Christian Steen opened a bookshop in the building in the 1810s. Other notable former residents include the architect Wilhelm Klein. In the middle of the 20th century, Pilestræde 40 became known as Glargården (Old Danish: The Galss House) after having been acquired by Copenhagen's Glaziers Guild. The building was listed in the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1986. It is now owned by Odense-based Barfoed Group.
