Barron Falls

Barron Gorge National Park is a protected area in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It lies predominantly within the locality of Barron Gorge.

The Barron Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station (or Barron Gorge Hydro) in Queensland, Australia is an electricity power station commissioned in 1963 with a maximum capacity of 66 megawatts (89,000 hp). It is in the locality of Barron Gorge in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area 20 kilometres (12 mi) north-west of Cairns. It replaced an earlier station which was the first underground power station in the country and the first hydroelectric station in Queensland. The power station was refurbished in 2006.

Rainforestation Nature Park is a tourist attraction near Kuranda in Far North Queensland, Australia. Set on 100 acres (40 ha) in the midst of World Heritage rainforest, the park (formerly Mountain Groves) opened in 1976. The site had previously been used as a coffee and orange plantation. Rainforestation has since expanded significantly to give visitors insight into indigenous culture, Australian native wildlife and World Heritage-listed rainforest. Rainforestation has three main components: Army Duck Rainforest Tour – Operating since the park opened in 1976, visitors tour the rainforest aboard an amphibious World War II Army Duck (DUKW) as a guide explains the array of local plants and wildlife. The tour continues on a lake, and passes through a tropical fruit orchard, with over 40 different species of exotic tropical fruit trees. Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience – Opened in 1993, Pamagirri means "silent snake". The Experience includes a performance by the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Troupe in a rainforest amphitheatre, and a Dreamtime Walk where visitors can learn to throw a boomerang and play a didgeridoo. Koala & Wildlife Park – Opened in 1996, visitors can walk along elevated boardwalks to view native Australian animals, including crocodiles, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, dingoes, wombats, cassowaries, lizards and snakes.

The Shire of Barron is a former local government area in Far North Queensland, Queensland, Australia. It existed between 1890 and 1919.

Kuranda is a rural town and locality on the Atherton Tableland in the Shire of Mareeba, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, Kuranda had a population of 3,008 people. It is 25 kilometres (16 mi) from Cairns, via the Kuranda Range road. It is surrounded by tropical rainforest and adjacent to the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage listed Barron Gorge National Park. The town of Myola is also located within the locality of Kuranda (16.8052°S 145.6094°E / -16.8052; 145.6094 (Myola, Queensland)).

Kuranda Fig Tree Avenue is a heritage-listed avenue of trees at Coondoo Street, Kuranda, Shire of Mareeba, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1931. It is also known as Avenue of Ficus Microcarpa and Ficus Obliqua trees. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 July 2018.

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is a butterfly sanctuary and exhibit situated in the centre of Kuranda, Queensland, Australia. Kuranda Butterfly Sanctuary is listed by the Guinness Book of Records as Australia's largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit. The sanctuary rears a variety of butterflies, most of which are native to Far North Queensland, including the vibrant Cairns Birdwing Butterfly. The lab breeds about 30,000 caterpillars each year, and sends about 24,000 pupae to be released in the aviary.There are around 1500 free flying butterflies from a variety of species.

The Cairns-to-Kuranda Railway is a heritage-listed railway line from the Cairns Region to the Shire of Mareeba, both in Queensland, Australia. It commences at Redlynch, a suburb of Cairns and travels up the Great Dividing Range to Kuranda within the Shire of Mareeba on the Atherton Tableland. It was built from 1913 to 1915 by Queensland Railways. Components of it include Stoney Creek Bridge, the Rail Bridge over Christmas Creek, Kuranda railway station, and Surprise Creek Rail Bridge. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 August 1992. The railway is used to operate a tourist rail service, the Kuranda Scenic Railway. It forms part of the Tablelands railway line.

The Stoney Creek Falls is a cascade waterfall on the Stoney Creek located where the river descends from the Atherton Tablelands to the Cairns coastal plain, in Queensland, Australia.

The Kuranda Range road is an informally named section of the Kennedy Highway in Queensland, Australia. The road traverses the Macalister Range near Cairns (16°50′18″S 145°40′21″E). The 11.5 kilometres (7.1 mi) section of road connects Smithfield, a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region with Kuranda, a town in the Shire of Mareeba on the Atherton Tableland, at an altitude of about 360 metres (1,180 ft). Traffic is primarily limited to one lane each way, with overtaking lanes at various points. The Kuranda Skyrail cableway crosses the road twice. Henry Ross Lookout is located near the road's highest point, at an altitude of 430 metres (1,410 ft), and is named after the foreman in charge of building the road to cross the range in 1939.
