Hillsmere Shores was a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a suburb of Annapolis. The population was 2,977 at the 2000 census. It was included in the Annapolis Neck CDP at the 2010 census. Built in phases, beginning in 1960, the community has been home to The Key School, a non-sectarian private school, since the 1960s.

The Key School is an independent coeducational school, located in the neighborhood of Hillsmere Shores in Annapolis, Maryland. The Key School was established by a group of tutors from St. John's College in 1958. Key is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

The South River is a 10-mile-long (16 km) tributary of the Chesapeake Bay in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in the United States. It lies south of the Severn River, east of the Patuxent River, and north of the West River and Rhode River, and drains to the Chesapeake Bay. Total watershed area is 66 square miles (170 km2)(including water surface), 56 square miles (150 km2) (or 85%) of it land. From its headwaters in western Anne Arundel County in Crofton, the river enters the Chesapeake Bay south of the historic port city of Annapolis, hence the name South River. Its major non-tidal branches include the North River, which is the non-tidal portion of the South River, and Bacon Ridge Branch, which drains the area east of the North River. Their confluence is between Maryland Route 450 (Defense Highway) and US 50 (John Hanson Highway). Some of the creeks on its north shore drain highly developed portions of Annapolis, especially Church Creek, which drains much of the Parole and Annapolis Harbour shopping centers. The navigable portion of the South River is crossed by two bridges, one carrying Maryland Route 2 (Solomons Island Road), known as the South River Bridge, and the other carrying Riva Road, known as the Riva Bridge. A bridge carrying US 50 crosses its upper tidal reaches.

Primrose Hill is a historic home at 3 Milkshake Lane in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, four-bay, double-pile brick house with interior end chimneys. It is of mid-18th-century Georgian design and construction, and the property is historically important with its direct association to the American portraitist, John Hesselius (1728–1778), who resided in this house between about 1763 and his death.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.Over the course of time and many owners, and notably with the dedication of Truxtun Park, the once 656-acre property associated with the historic home decreased to approximately 4.5 acres in size. The remaining plot was sold in 2014 to a private developer, after which the historic home was restored to architectural period-correctness. The residence, with a new address of 50 Primrose Hill Lane, was resold in May 2018 and is part of a newly formed Homeowners Association, along with 25 new homes; Craftmark Homes is building the new community, called simply Primrose Hill.

Selby-on-the-Bay (often just called Selby) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States, for the 2000 census, at which time its population was 3,674. It was added to the Mayo CDP for the 2010 census.

Annapolis ( (listen) ə-NAP-ə-lis) is the capital city of the U.S. state of Maryland and the county seat of, and only incorporated city in, Anne Arundel County. Situated on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, 25 miles (40 km) south of Baltimore and about 30 miles (50 km) east of Washington, D.C., Annapolis forms part of the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. The 2020 census recorded its population as 40,812, an increase of 6.3% since 2010. This city served as the seat of the Confederation Congress, formerly the Second Continental Congress, and temporary national capital of the United States in 1783–1784. At that time, General George Washington came before the body convened in the new Maryland State House and resigned his commission as commander of the Continental Army. A month later, the Congress ratified the Treaty of Paris of 1783, ending the American Revolutionary War, with Great Britain recognizing the independence of the United States. The city and state capitol was also the site of the 1786 Annapolis Convention, which issued a call to the states to send delegates for the Constitutional Convention to be held the following year in Philadelphia. Over 220 years later, the Annapolis Peace Conference took place in 2007. Annapolis is the home of St. John's College, founded 1696. The United States Naval Academy, established 1845, is adjacent to the city limits.

The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is a multi-disciplinary arts center in Annapolis, Maryland which offers opportunities in the arts for individuals of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds. It was founded in 1979 to promote art appreciation and education in Maryland. Maryland Hall offers year-round arts classes for children, teens and adults. Classes are available in drawing, painting, dance, drama, crafts and clay/ceramics. There are three semesters each year, Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall. Maryland Hall also houses five gallery spaces: the Chaney Gallery, the Martino Gallery, the Openshaw Gallery, the Hallway Gallery, and the Alcove Gallery. Exhibitions are mounted year-round and gallery admission is free and open to the public. An Artist-In-Residence program also provides studio space to local and visiting visual artists. Maryland Hall's performing arts program presents national and international artists, children's entertainment, local musicians, independent film and free performances. The four resident programs: Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Annapolis Opera, the Live Arts Maryland, and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra also perform in Maryland Hall's 725-seat theater. Ballet Theatre of Maryland is Maryland's premier professional [Ballet company] and is based in Annapolis, Maryland. Originally established as The Ballet Theatre of Annapolis, the organization was founded in November 1978 as a private non-profit corporation governed by a twelve-person Board of Trustees, with Danny Diamond as the first Artistic Director, and established residency at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. In 1996, the company achieved professional status. In 2000, the organization’s name was changed to Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Inc. (BTM) to fulfill a new mission of serving the State of Maryland. The William Brown House, also known as London Town Publik House or Londontowne Public House, is a former Colonial tavern located in the Historic London Town and Gardens museum complex in Woodland Beach, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Completed in 1764, it is one of the best-preserved examples of a colonial-era brick tavern house. From 1828 to 1965 the structure was used as a county alms house. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970.

Gresham is a historic home near Edgewater, Maryland. It is a large 2+1⁄2-story frame dwelling built in the late 1700s.John Gresham II lived at Gresham after 1686 on land owned by land-grant pioneer Captain Edward Selby.After the Selby heirs suffered financial setbacks, the plantation was owned briefly by the pirate William Cotter and then by assorted members of Colonel Nicholas Gassaway's family (his daughter Jane having married Cotter), including the sons of Captain John Gassaway, Lord High Sheriff of Annapolis. The Gresham family continued to own the house on rented Gassaway land then known as Cotter's Desire. Gresham is most associated with Commodore Isaac Mayo, who received it from his uncle who had purchased the property and house from the Cotter/Gassaway heirs around 1765. He occupied the property beginning in the early 19th century until his controversial death there in 1861 at the dawn of the Civil war he openly opposed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Wiley H. Bates High School was a historic black school building in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It was completed in 1932, and replaced the original Annapolis Colored High School. The school building was named after Wiley H. Bates, a prominent African-American businessman and community leader whose financial donations enabled the school to be built. The name of the school lives on in Wiley H. Bates Middle School, while the original building has been turned into a retirement home combined community center.
