Fort Cornwallis Lighthouse

Fort Cornwallis is a bastion fort in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia. The fort never engaged in combat during its operational history. It was named after the then Lieutenant-General The 2nd Earl Cornwallis (1738–1805), the Governor-General of Bengal at the time of the fort's construction. He had also been involved in the American War of Independence, surrendering his army to George Washington at Yorktown in 1781. In 1792, Lord Cornwallis was later created The 1st Marquess Cornwallis, and promoted to the full rank of General in the British Army the following year. Lord Cornwallis later served, from 1798 to 1801, as the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, where he oversaw the implementation of the Act of Union.

The Seri Rambai is a seventeenth-century Dutch cannon displayed at Fort Cornwallis in George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest bronze gun in Malaysia, a fertility symbol and the subject of legends and prophecy. The cannon's history in the Malacca Straits began in the early 1600s, when Dutch East India Company officers gave it to the Sultan of Johor in return for trading concessions. In 1613, the Sultanate of Aceh attacked and destroyed Johor, captured the sultan, and took Seri Rambai to Aceh. Near the end of the eighteenth century the cannon was sent by Aceh to Selangor and mounted next to one of the town's hilltop forts. In 1871, the British colonial government launched an attack on the town in retaliation to a pirate attack, destroying the forts and confiscating the Seri Rambai. The gun was originally displayed at George Town's Esplanade; in the 1950s it was moved to Fort Cornwallis.

The Jubilee Clock Tower (Malay: Menara Jam Peringatan Victoria, Tamil: ராணி விக்டோரியா நினைவு மணிக்கூண்டு) is an Moorish-style Jubilee clocktower located at the intersection of Light Street and Beach Street in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. Built to commemorate Queen Victoria's 1897 Diamond Jubilee, the tower is sixty feet tall, one foot for each year of Victoria's reign. A corner of the wall surrounding Fort Cornwallis is situated behind the tower.The clock tower is slightly tilted, a result of bombing during the Second World War.

The Penang State Assembly Building is the home of the Penang State Legislative Assembly. It is located at Light Street in the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia, within the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site. All State Legislative Assembly proceedings are held within the building Built in the 1820s, the Anglo-Indian classical style building originally served as part of George Town's Central Police Station. It was only in 1959 when the building was converted into the current home of the State Legislative Assembly.

The Francis Light statue is a memorial to Captain Francis Light (1740–1794), the founder of the British colony of Penang in 1786. It is situated in the grounds of Fort Cornwallis, George Town, Penang, Malaysia.

Weld Quay is a coastal road along the eastern shoreline of the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. One of a handful of places worldwide that was named after a Prime Minister of New Zealand, the road connects the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway with Light Street and Beach Street in the heart of the city. Weld Quay was created as part of a massive land reclamation project in George Town in the late 19th century, which pushed the coastline further east. During the heyday of British rule, Weld Quay was home to the Port of Penang, which was then one of the major ports in Malaya. The famous Chinese Clan Jetties at the road was originally built to house the Chinese labourers employed at the harbour.Now part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site, major transportation hubs are still located along Weld Quay today, such as Swettenham Pier and the Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal, the latter being used for the cross-strait Rapid Ferry services. A public bus terminal adjacent to the ferry terminal allows ferry passengers to board Rapid Penang buses to various parts of Penang Island.

The Penang Islamic Department Building is an office building in George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. Completed in 1909, the building, situated at Downing Street within the city's Central Business District (CBD), was formerly part of the Government Offices, the administrative seat of Penang under the Straits Settlements. It now accommodates the Penang Islamic Department.

Swettenham Pier is a pier within the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Established in 1904, it is the busiest port-of-call in Malaysia for cruise shipping. The pier plays a vital role as a major entry point for tourists into Penang, aside from the Penang International Airport and land connections.Other than cruise shipping, Swettenham Pier, located at Weld Quay, has hosted warships as well. Navy ships from several nations, including Singapore, Thailand and the United States, have berthed at the pier in the past.

The Standard Chartered Bank building is a historical building in George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. Completed in 1930, the office building, situated at Beach Street within George Town's Central Business District, was one of the tallest in the city at that time. It served as the Penang branch of Standard Chartered until 2017, after which the bank relocated to its new premise down the street. The building has since been reopened as Spaces Beach Street, one of IWG's coworking spaces in Malaysia.

The Foo Tye Sin Mansion is a mansion in George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. Built in 1875, the building is situated at Light Street within the city's Central Business District. It was originally the residence of Chinese tycoon Foo Tye Sin. In 1986, the building was acquired by MUI Group, and it currently serves as a branch of Hong Leong Bank.

Downing Street is a minor side street in the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. It is one of the few places worldwide that share an identical name with London's famous Downing Street, where the official residence of the British prime minister is located. Created in the late 19th century, the Straits Settlements government built an administrative complex along the street. Thus, as is the case in London, Downing Street in George Town was once the seat of government in Penang.
