Somerville station

The Somerset County Courthouse is located in Somerville, the county seat Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Constructed in between 1907 and 1909 in the Neo-classical style Palladian style and is faced with Sylacauga marble. It had once been considered for demolition for not being large enough to accommodate the growing county. A much larger, modern masonry and glass structure behind it (left side of photo), now serves its judicial functions. The courthouse underwent a $6 million renovation between 1989 and 1996.

The Central New Jersey Home News Tribune is a daily newspaper serving Middlesex County, New Jersey. The paper has an average daily weekday circulation of about 49,000. The newspaper is the result of the 1995 merger of The Home News of East Brunswick (founded 1879) and The News Tribune of Woodbridge Township. The News Tribune was previously known as The Perth Amboy Evening News. The combined paper, initially renamed the Home News & Tribune before the ampersand was removed, was sold to Gannett in 1997.In 2009, some production operations were moved and consolidated with those of Central Jersey Gannett newspapers. Those operations are now located in Neptune. The newsroom and advertising departments remained in East Brunswick at the time but have seen relocated to Somerville, where its sister paper, the Courier News of Somerville is headquartered. The two papers share much of the same content.

The Somerville Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Somerville, in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of three schools, had an enrollment of 2,198 students and 212.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.3:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students from Branchburg Township attend the district's high school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Branchburg Township School District. For many years, Branchburg has accounted for 60-65% of the high school's enrollment.

The West End Hose Company Number 3 is a historic two-story brick firehouse located at 15 North Doughty Avenue in the borough of Somerville in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 2002 for its significance in architecture and social history. The building is currently the Somerville Fire Department Museum operated by the Somerville Exempt Firemen's Association.

St. John's Episcopal Church is a historic church located at 154–158 W. High Street in the borough of Somerville in Somerset County, New Jersey. Built in 1895, it was designed by architect Horace Trumbauer in Early English Gothic style. St. John's Church Complex, which includes the church, rectory, and parish hall, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 30, 2003 for its significance in architecture and social history.

Somerville Public Library is a public library of the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey and is located at 35 West End Avenue in Somerville, New Jersey. It is centered at the end of Somerville’s downtown Main Street and is in the same building as the town’s Borough Hall. The library offers books, movies, CDs, and periodicals. It also hosts special events, such as programs and lectures for each age group, as well as providing free WiFi access.

Somerset County is a county located in the north-central part of the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 census, the county was the state's 13th-most-populous county, with a population of 345,361, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 21,917 (+6.8%) from the 2010 census count of 323,444. Somerset County constitutes part of the New York metropolitan area. Its county seat is Somerville. The most populous place in the county was Franklin Township, with 68,364 residents at the time of the 2020 census, while Hillsborough Township, with 55.00 square miles (142.4 km2), covered the largest total area of any municipality. The county is part of the Central Jersey region of the state. In 2015, Somerset County had a per capita personal income of $86,468, the second highest in New Jersey and ranked 25th of 3,113 counties in the United States. Somerset County, as of the 2000 Census, was the seventh wealthiest county in the United States by median household income at $76,933 (third in New Jersey behind Hunterdon County at $79,888 and Morris County at $77,340), fourth in median family income at $90,655 (second in New Jersey behind Hunterdon County at $91,050) and ranked seventh by per capita income at $37,970 (highest in New Jersey). The Bureau of Economic Analysis ranked the county as having the 11th-highest per capita income of all 3,113 counties in the United States (and the highest in New Jersey) as of 2009.In 2012, 49.8 percent of Somerset County residents were college graduates, the highest percentage in the state. Somerset County was recently ranked number 3 of 21 NJ counties as one of the healthiest counties in New Jersey, according to an annual report by County Health Rankings and Roadmaps. Somerset County was created on May 14, 1688, from portions of Middlesex County.

Somerville is a borough and the county seat of Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough is located in the heart of the Raritan Valley region within the New York Metropolitan Area, located about 33 miles (53 km) from Manhattan and 20 miles (32 km) from Staten Island. The borough has grown to become a commercial hub for central New Jersey and commuter town of New York City. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 12,346, an increase of 248 (+2.0%) from the 2010 census count of 12,098, which in turn reflected a decline of 325 (-2.6%) from the 12,423 counted in the 2000 census.Somerville was originally formed as a town on March 25, 1863, within a portion of Bridgewater Township. Somerville was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 16, 1909, based on the results of a referendum held on May 4, 1909, at which point it was fully set off from Bridgewater Township. It is home of the oldest competitive bicycle race in the United States. The borough is named for Somerset in England.

The Wallace House is a Georgian style historic house, which served as the headquarters of General George Washington during the second Middlebrook encampment (1778–79), located at 38 Washington Place, Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 2, 1970.

The Old Dutch Parsonage is a historical house built in 1751, moved about 1913 and now located at 65 Washington Place, Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 1971, and noted as "an excellent example of mid-18th-century Flemish Bond brick structure".

The J. Harper Smith Mansion is a historic Late Victorian house built in 1880 by James Harper Smith and located at 228 Altamont Place in the borough of Somerville in Somerset County, New Jersey, in the United States. The architect Horace Trumbauer designed the library addition in 1898. The privately owned residence was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1998, for its significance in architecture from 1880 to 1911.

Somerville High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from Somerville and Branchburg Township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the secondary school for Somerville Public Schools. Students from Branchburg Township attend Somerville High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Branchburg Township School District.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,142 students and 92.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.4:1. There were 136 students (11.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 37 (3.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.Advanced Placement (AP) courses (such as AP United States Government and Politics) and the Senior Options Program at Raritan Valley Community College allow students the opportunity to earn college credits while attending high school. AP offerings include AP Biology, AP Calculus (AB/BC), AP Chemistry, AP English Literature and Composition, AP French Language, AP United States Government and Politics, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Music Theory, AP Physics, AP Spanish Language and AP United States History.
