The Desmond Trannore Bridge is a road bridge that carries the Bruce Highway over the Mulgrave River in Gordonvale, in Far North Queensland, Australia. The 482-metre (1,581 ft)-long bridge is 5 metres (16 ft) higher than the former Mulgrave River Bridge, to improve flood immunity during the wet season. It is also located 30 metres (98 ft) upstream from the former bridge on a better alignment of the Bruce Highway. The old Mulgrave River Bridge was regularly submerged by flood waters during the wet season.The construction of the bridge was fast-tracked by installation of 50 precast concrete girders. The bridge was completed as part of a number of projects undertaken by the Australian Government to flood-proof the Bruce Highway and provide all year round access to Far North Queensland.The bridge is named in honour of Senior Constable Desmond Trannore, of Gordonvale Police Station, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on 27 October 1964, while assisting a woman and her children following a report of domestic violence.

Walshs Pyramid is an independent peak with a distinct pyramidal appearance, 922 m (3,025 ft) high, located within Wooroonooran National Park about 20 km (12 mi) south of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. An annual footrace to its summit is held on the third Saturday in August. The "Pyramid race" starts at the nearby town of Gordonvale and attracts hundreds of competitors aiming to win the $1000 prize money. For experienced hikers, the ascent and descent can take 4 to 6 hours. The vegetation on the mountain is fairly dense however, many rocks are open and exposed which make the surface very slippery after rain.

Wooroonooran National Park (Aboriginal for "Black Rock") is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 1,367 km northwest of Brisbane, between Innisfail and Cairns. The park is one of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area series of national parks, and is a gazetted World Heritage Site. Declared in 1988, the World Heritage area stretches from Townsville in the south to Cooktown in the north, and contains some of the oldest surviving rainforests in the world. The national park covers most of Bellenden Ker Range and includes Queensland's two highest mountains, Mount Bartle Frere (1622 m) and Mount Bellenden Ker (1592 m). Walshs Pyramid at 922 m in height, is located just south of Gordonvale and is one of the highest free-standing natural pyramids in the world. It also includes the parts of Australia that on average receive the most rainfall each year. The park has two sections: the Palmerston and the Josephine sections. Both the North and South branches of the Johnstone River flow through the Palmerston section.

Meringa Sugar Experiment Station is a heritage-listed research station at 71378 Bruce Highway, Meringa, Gordonvale, Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Goodsir & Carlyle, Baker & Wilde, and the Queensland Department of Public Works and built from 1914 to 1918 by Queensland Department of Public Works. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 18 July 2014.
