Buchanan's Hotel (nicknamed "Buchs") was a hotel on Sturt Street located in the CBD of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The three-storey structure, with an ornate three storey cast iron verandah, was completed in 1903. It was used as a hotel up to World War II, and then during the war is housed American officers. It caught fire and was largely destroyed in 1982.

It was designed by Francis Drummond Greville Stanley and built from 1878-1879 by C A Ward. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 January 1994.

Osler House is a heritage-listed detached house at 35 Sturt Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by W G Smith & Sons and built from 1888 to 1950s. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

The Dalgety Offices is a heritage-listed office building at 1-13 Sturt Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Walter Hunt and built from 1923 to 1925 by William Hornby Turner. It is also known as Sunskill House. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 26 August 2005.

Perc (pronounced purse) Tucker Regional Gallery is a heritage-listed public art gallery in the Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia.Located on the corner of Flinders and Denham streets, the Gallery has a collection of over 2,000 artworks and hosts touring national and international exhibits. The Gallery was officially opened by the Mayor of Townsville, Alderman M F Reynolds, on 25 September 1981. The gallery focuses on artwork relevant to North Queensland and the Tropics. The collection includes Contemporary Art of Tropical Queensland, Historical Art of Tropical Queensland, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Art, Contemporary Art from Papua New Guinea, Popular Art and Ephemera. Perc Tucker has both Membership and Volunteer programs for supporters. Venue hire for functions is also available through Townsville City Council. Included in regular activities are art classes, exhibition tours, artists' talks, lectures, workshops, and performances.

The City of Townsville is a local government area (LGA) located in North Queensland, Australia. It encompasses the city of Townsville, together with the surrounding rural areas, to the south are the communities of Alligator Creek, Woodstock and Reid River, and to the north are Northern Beaches and Paluma, and also included is Magnetic Island. The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) is a ten-day international festival focused on chamber music held in Townsville, North Queensland commencing on the last Friday in July. The AFCM also incorporates a Winterschool for emerging artists. Some 30 to 40 chamber musicians from around Australia and the world converge on Townsville, each year to perform and teach emerging artists. The festival was founded in July 1991 and has been held annually ever since. In 2020 it celebrated its 30th anniversary. It is the largest festival dedicated to chamber music in the southern hemisphere.The AFCM is presented in partnership with all three levels of government as well as several commercial, tourism, regional development, and educational, organisations. The festival's patron is Paul de Jersey, Governor of Queensland.

Commonwealth Bank Building is a heritage-listed former bank building at 272-278 Flinders Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by John and Herwald Kirkpatrick and built in 1923 by Charles Hanson & Sons. It is also known as Commonwealth Savings Bank and Townsville City Council Library. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 29 October 2004.

Townsville Magistrates Court is a heritage-listed former courthouse and now theatre at 81 Sturt Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Francis Drummond Greville Stanley and built from 1874 to 1876 by J & J Rooney. It is also known as Townsville Court House and Townsville Museum. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Townsville Post Office is a heritage-listed former post office and now brewery at 252–270 Flinders Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by John James Clark and built in 1886 by Dennis Kellcher. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 30 May 2003.

The Hotel Grand Chancellor Townsville, nicknamed the "Sugar Shaker" by the locals, is currently the tallest building in Townsville, Australia, standing at 76-metre (249 ft) tall. The building is located in the central section of Flinders Street next to Townsville Bulletin Square.

The 1998 Townsville and Thuringowa city floods began on 10 January 1998, the cities of Townsville and Thuringowa were hit by one of the worst floods in the cities' history.
